Anja had not spent as much time with the Law brothers as she had others, but after having helped Baby, she felt a certain connection to them both. She pulled back after a moment, offering a smile. “Maybe if you two like this place, you could stay.” She suggested lightly.

Sunny couldn’t really imagine himself staying in one place but with the time he had spent with Anja, maybe the camp they were in now wouldn’t be so bad. “We’ll see what happens.” He muttered, breaking away from the hug to regain control of his gun and to look outside. It wasn’t good out there. “Why do you think these people are good?”

❝ we can’t leave. ❞ baby spoke.

“And why is that? There are walkers here and we’re enclosed with these fucking walls. They’re not doing us much good if they’re already in.”

“it’s carl.” he sighed, assuming by the way the other was looking around that he was trying to avoid looking at the patch covering his eye hole. “wouldn’t hurt to look around. if he’s here, we’ll find him. what’s his name, and yours?”

“Got it.” He nodded. Sunny wasn’t the best at being subtle unfortunately so eventually his eyes were drawn back to that patch. “His name is Baby, I’m Sunny... Our parents were kind of hippies.” He said, feeling himself slightly chuckle despite their current situation.

anja took a few steps forward, wrapping her arms around the brother, a sigh escaping her lips. “i’m glad i’m not here alone.” she said softly.

Taking her in his arms, he gave her a warm squeeze. “You’re not. I’m here, Anja.” He whispered into her ear. “Whatever you need, never hesitate to ask.”

she sighed, “i hope it won’t come to that. i really do.” she said softly, “but i still appreciate it. i really do.” she said quietly, running her hand through her red locks. “i… i’m sorry.”

Walking over to the girl, he looked her up and down, “Anja, I’d do anything for you and Baby... Never forget that.” Sunny explained. “Please don’t be sorry.”

anja nodded slowly, “i understand that. and if it comes to it, i won’t ask you to stay. i won’t ask you to fight.” she said quietly, “but i… i think i have to.”

Sunny shook his head, “No. I’m not leaving you two. I’ll fight, I guess. But if we have the chance to leave, I say we take it.”

“that might be true,” anja said quietly, running her hand over her head, “but i think it’d take a lot more than this for these people to fall. a helluva a lot more.” she shrugged. “we could run. but we’d be leaving a lot of good people behind.”

“Things don’t look too good for them right now, Anja.” He breathed, “We don’t know these people, I’m sorry but I’d rather not risk my skin for people I don’t know. You and Baby are the only people worth my time... I’m sorry but that’s just how I feel.”

anja nodded, “i don’t blame you. but there are a lot of strong survivors here. people who’ve taken on worse. i know baby is a fighter. i know i am. if you are too… we’re going to be okay.”

“That’s a slight comfort to hear. But the bigger they are, the harder they fall.” Sunny frowned deeper, “I can fight, but I’ve been on my own for the most part here... I’m really more of a runner, I’m quick on my feet. I don’t like to stand my ground, it seems more dangerous. I personally think we should just get the fuck out before any of us get hurt.”

“the… the buildings are strong and… we’re gonna be fine.” anja said slowly, more to herself than to sunny. “how do you feel… y’know, being here?” she asked.

Standing near the door, holding the rifle tightly, Sunny glanced over to the girl, “If you think we’ll be okay then my opinion doesn’t matter too much... I just don’t like that we get here and there are walkers inside the camp...”

“i’m not a kid.” carl scoffed as he looked at the man, eyeing the goggles on his head curiously. “i don’t think i have. sounds hard to miss. but there’s also a lot of people here. you sure he’s here?”

“Right, sorry, um... I’m sorry, what’s your name?” Sunny frowned, looking around as to try and not to stare at the boy’s eye patch. “He is pretty hard to miss, yeah we came in together but I don’t know where he is now.”

“Baby, I think we should really get out of here, where’s Anja?”

“Hey, kid, I know this is a very, very bad time but I’m looking for my brother. About six two, a little lankier than I, and great with a sniper. He might’ve been on a rooftop or something, but I’ve lost track... Think you might’ve seen him?”

anja nodded, “seems fair.” she said with a half smile. “i’m anja. you alone out here?” she asked, no anger or distrust in her tone.

“Nice to meet you.” He smiled, “I’ve got my brother but he’s back at our camp. Don’t worry, I’m not trying to steal you stuff. Just looking for empty houses or stores.” Sunny shrugged.

despite herself, anja sort of smiled at this. it felt forced, but it was still there. “it does suck dick.” she agreed, running her hand through her short hair. “it’s okay. it happens to us all.”

Seeing her smile Sunny relaxed a bit, “Not my best joke, sorry.” He chuckled, “Yeah it does... I’m Sunny by the way. Since we’re already making bad jokes I figured it’d be best if you at least know my name.”

anja jumped when she heard another voice. she glanced over her shoulders at the boy and nodded once, quickly. “i… yeah. just… putting down someone familiar.”

At her explanation, Sunny really felt for the girl. He remembered being back in town and having to put down more than one friend. It was probably the hardest thing he ever had to do. “That definitely sucks dick...” Not the best response but it was all he had, “I’m sorry.”

anja swallowed back tears as the shot hit the man directly between the temple. it’d been a long time since she’d last seen him, but it didn’t matter. she knew him and she couldn’t escape that. couldn’t escape that she had once loved this person, now a walker. gone to this world already. “bye.” she said quietly, letting the gun fall as she squeezed her eyes shut for a moment, turning to leave.

Walking through the woods it wasn’t long before he came upon a girl. When she turned around he saw how shaken up she was. Feeling a frown tug upon his lips he couldn’t help but ask, “Are you alright, miss?”

ONE tug was enough to have the other run the other direction alongside sunny, albeit slower due to the weight of the gun - but he managed to keep up nonetheless. ❝ KEYS. sure. but quick. ❞

Sprinting to the best of his ability he glanced over to the younger, “It’ll do no matter what.” He puffed. After a few yards the man came upon a clearing which led to a driveway filled with cars. It lead to a beaten path, the whole thing would have to do. Going straight for the car that was closest to the exit he found the door unlocked and began to search for keys.
