weak hero post-canon headcanons: characters and their uni degrees!
been a while weak hero fandom i hope you're still surviving :o) just writing something quick in between studying... i wanted to write about what the main cast would do after graduating high school!
------------
Gray: I feel like after everything, he would take a gap year to figure himself out and what he wants to do. He's a driven person, and intelligent but I feel hasn't found his life path. He would probably travel the world with Stephen and spend some quality time together. In the end I see Gray doing something related to psychology or social sciences.
Ben: CULINARY SCHOOL!!! The big guy loves food, and I head canon to be a great cook because of it. He loves making his friends happy and is there to protect and support them whenever, and food is such a great way to do it.
Alex: Professional dancer! He's got the moves ngl and I think it would be interesting for him to go down this route. I was thinking pro-boxer but I have a feeling Alex would want something more peaceful.
Gerard: Music school :D I want Gerard to pursue his passions and dreams and make it big in the music industry. Maybe start a new band, go solo or go into music production or management.
Teddy: Veterinary medicine. Given his affinity with cats and animals I thought it would make sense. He could intern at Eugene's aunt's clinic! It would be good for him to go from bully to saving animal lives. He's got a good heart at his core.
Rowan: Media studies / Film or acting school. He's got a flair for the dramatics and already runs a youtube channel. I'd see him studying media, content creation, social media or going down a film or acting route. He's got blockbuster potential!
Eugene: Mechanical engineering. This one is a no brainer, we've seen Eugene cook up some amazing light tech! He'd join a robot fighting club. Eugene has big potential to do awesome things and maybe become an inventor.
I was thinking about the weird ass decision they made in WHC to make Suho so similar to Gayool, and how it completely rewrote Suho's characterization and the role he had in Sieun's life in the original manhwa, but then it suddenly occurred to me that maybe Gayool wasn't completely erased from the adaptation.
What if they didn't give Gayool's character to Suho, but fused both characters in one?
If they really make a third season, Suho is totally taking over Gayool's role in the Eunjang gang. He's the second strongest fighter out of the Eunjang boys (just like Gayool was in the comic), and it would be so natural for him to take the role of 'second in command', of Humin's pillar (again, just like Gayool).
Probably I'm overthinking, but if it truly turns out to be like that, then the pieces fall together nicely, and I maybe could finally stop being salty about them erasing my boy Gerard from the narrative.
weak hero study habit headcanons
writing this instead of actually studying like i'm supposed to and also bc i miss weak hero lol. sry for not posting 2nd year of uni is hitting hard...
here's some headcanons abt how the eunjang gang studies for exams!
Gray: He starts studying really early and effectively, uses flashcards and reviews the day's lessons at home every day. Does practice questions and papers. Studies smarter and not harder and aces every exam. Gets a full night sleep before tests.
Eugene: He used to procrastinate studying in favour of going down wiki rabbit holes and ends up cramming a few nights before each exam. After some advice from Gray he's started studying earlier and sticks to a study schedule and does practice papers. His grades have improved! Though he does stay up late to cram sometimes.
Ben: He does NOTTT study at all until finals. He gets distracted while studying and constantly puts it off. He studies better in group settings because his friends keep him accountable. Gray, Alex and Gerard have helped him out lots. He's an audiovisual learner so lots of diagrams and reading out notes helps.
Gerard: He gets decent grades despite sleeping in class all the time. After work he makes some time to at least review class notes and studies on the weekends. He likes to go to chill cafes to listen to music and study. His mind will wander and he tends to daydream while studying so he has to reread his notes many times.
Alex: Poor dude tries really hard to study but can't get his grades up. He uses a rote memorisation method to cram as much info in his head before tests. Pretends not to care about studying but he puts more effort than most people realize. Especially since Ben comes to him to ask questions. He asked Gray and Eugene for study tips and has since improved his study strat, aiming to understand instead of blindly memorizing.
Teddy: Studying? What's that? Before he joined Ben's group he didn't care about studies at all. But now that he's got himself a better friend group and adopted Co he's decided to try studying. It's a slow process and he is struggling to catch up with schoolwork but he's determined to make things work. He takes frequent study breaks to play with Co or go on walks. Keeping his body moving helps his mind process information.
Rowan: Professional procrastinator but somehow LOCKS IN and gets good grades. Nobody knows how he does it. Like he's that type of guy to say "haha i barely studied" and then does well. Eugene is slightly jealous. His secret? Late night cramming and energy drinks. Is super burnt out after exam season and always gets sick after due to bad study habits.
So yeah! This lowkey motivated me to study more today. It's important not to burn yourself out, take frequent breaks and remember that doing a little bit is better than nothing at all. Starting is the hardest part but as long as you start early, all progress is good progress. All the eunjang boys passed their exams! Yippee!
whilst i very very much loved wh2, id like to pour one out for my favs who were missing from the group this season 😔🤍 they were very important to me. And I’m sad we never got them
Gerard Jin, Teddy Jin & Rowan Im
honourable mentions go out to Jake Ji and Jimmy Bae. Missed yo psycho asses, and watching you hate each other guts ✊🏽 and ofc the fight scenes were always so immaculate. ‘Twas basically attempted murder each fight 🤩
whenever i read weak hero, i always note whether a character's eyebrows match their hair color in my head. it's fun to speculate which weak hero characters naturally were born with their hair color vs. which characters use hair dye, based on whether their eyebrows are black, and what that might say about their personality or background.
using this rationale, it would imply that:
jimmy bae is naturally a strawberry blonde. you could headcanon that his family is mixed and/or he won the genetic lottery when it comes to inheriting recessive traits
donald na is naturally platinum blonde. which is unsurprising, since it's pretty much confirmed by canon that he has albinism
gerard jin was born with green hair. this is the only one that's fully unrealistic to be honest (or: he's the only character who bothers to dye his eyebrows)
rowan im is naturally a redhead, though he has a mix of panels where his eyebrows are fully shaded in and panels where you can see that they're red. either he's another victor of the genetic lottery, or he dyes his eyebrows whenever he feels like going the extra mile
meanwhile, the majority of unnatural hair colors are the result of dye jobs:
teddy jin bleaches his hair, which definitely feels in character for him, since he's established to be the type of kid who cares about his appearance a lot and being trendy
gray yeon might also bleach his hair, which feels distinctly out of character for him, especially if he's being doing it since at least middle school. though, it's hard to tell for gray because his eyebrows are so thin. if anyone can find a panel where gray's eyebrows aren't shaded in, feel free to share with the class
jake ji dyes his hair. however, since he shares his ginger hair color with his older brother kenny, i'm inclined to believe it's actually genetic. though, the potential headcanon that jake looks up to kenny enough to dye his hair the same color also feels in character for jake, so you could argue either way i think
wolf keum dyes his hair pastel purple, and he's been doing it since at least middle school. this doesn't necessarily feel out of character, nor does it feel particularly in character either. wolf just does whatever he wants, period
sam “grape” lee also has purple-ish hair, but it's dark enough that you could argue he's actually naturally a raven, and the purple is just the shading (it's common to use blue or purple to shade black hair). though his nickname being “grape” means that you could argue his hair is supposed to be noticeably purple
though, at the end of the day, you can believe whatever you want about these characters' natural hair colors. it's highly likely that razen's art/coloring style for depicting eyebrows doesn't necessarily represent the characters' in-universe hair colors. plus, with the variety of unnatural/uncommon eye colors, the ‘realism’ argument is pretty flimsy.
but! fun thought experiment regardless.
this is how highschool teenagers are supposed to act and not build a whole ass gang and beat each other up every chance they get TT.
Donald Na take notes.

i love megumi and his awkward charm
i know this is not the point but I genuinely think the romance between Spring and Winter would be so much more interesting to me if Spring was the boy and Winter was the girl? While keeping key traits of Hinagiku and Rousei (so basically if Hinagiku was a male character and Rousei was a female character, with their personality intact).
I think part of why I'm so whatever about the endgame canon het ship is that it feels very... traditional to me? like i do think Rousei's yearning for Hinagiku was compelling (though less compelling to me than the bond between Sakura and Hinaguku) but I'm not very interested in it because it's kinda the usual formula in het romances. I think it's way more interesting if male!Spring had to deal with others pointing their finger at him for "not being strong enough to break free sooner/do his duties immediately after coming back/dying sooner so the next agent of Spring could be chosen" etc, despite his bravery in letting himself be taken resulting in no deaths all those years ago; I'm interested to explore a world where female!Winter resents the fact that Spring saved her but she can't do anything to save him, not knowing where he is or how he fares for years, while the Spring Village made it clear that they're just waiting for him to die, and that after a few years her own Village concluded the search too (even though Spring saved her all those years ago). and if they're too worried that people would ship male!Spring/Sakura and female!Winter/Itecho instead, then gender flip Sakura and Itecho too (granted, i wish Hinagiku/Sakura is the endgame ship, so agent/guardian ship would happen regardless of the genders involved).
I'm also very whatever about the Sakura/Itecho ship tease, but that's related to my hangup of the romance plot of Violet Evergarden and my personal dislike of the "older male figure with more authority x younger female student/underling" trope.
and i know people will be like "if Hinagiku is a boy then it's too unrealistic/a guy with Hinagiku traits would be too unlikable to be a compelling male lead in a romance" etc but i don't think that's true. maybe some stuff would need to be adjusted due to gendered socialization, but I think it's very compelling to have a guy who IS soft and loving and expresses his bravery through more quiet forms of resistance than going in guns blazing, and I love brusque ladies who have deep resentment in their hearts and feel like they have to be distant and hide their softer parts because of the hurt they've experienced.
Anyway. tldr Hinagiku should've been a boy and Rousei should've been a girl if they wanted me to care about the Spring and Winter official pairing, just saying.
Sorry but nadeshiko and rindo's dynamic on agents of the four seasons is kinda forever tainted for me due to knowing about violet evergarden. I really really hope it stays just a kid having a crush and the adult caring about them, but given how codependent agents and their guards get AND the older man x younger girl dynamic the author favors I Am Scared... I kinda like Rindo's dynamic with his sassy colleague so I hope if there's a romance it's between them instead, but honestly I think it'd be cool if they stay friends too (he can be a normal guy around her, not the knight he has to be for Nadeshiko)
(Honestly the Sakura x Itecho thing also feels forced since it's Hinagiku (the narration) constantly making Sakura's complicated feelings towards Itecho have a tomantic lens... and of course it's the older male mentor x younger girl thing again. Can't we change it up a bit and have the older person be female and the younger one male if one simply must write this kind of dynamic???)
I also get that Hinagiku/Rousei is the central romance, but it feels pretty shallow because all the relationship development happened off screen in the past; it's the story telling us "they're in love" without really showing us why we should root for their romance aside from our affection for Hinagiku and wanting her to be happy. Hinagiku and Rousei's relationship is idealized and we only see them pining for each other, the obstacles that they have to overcome as a couple are mostly external rather than internal, and all in all they don't interact enough even in the flashbacks to make their dynamic compelling. In contrast, we get a direct view of Hinagiku and Sakura's relationship and they have conflict in their relationship that they need to work on, as opposed to "wow this love so tender and idealized" that's more about the potential of a dream-like romance than a real relationship.
Anyway. This story is pretty frustrating for me to watch bc i care about the cast and the worldbuilding and plot, but the romance aspect is really dragging the rest of it down since it's a central part but also the lest compelling aspect imo. Plus the gender dynamics are so old-fashioned/typical het dynamics (not to mention the spectre of older man x younger girl hanging around supporting couples) that it remains the most annoying aspect of the show to me.
i think it's so funny that the agents of the 4 seasons anime keeps on milking the same event over and over again??? like okay i know real trauma isn't a one and done thing and it can haunt the person affected by it at the most unexpected times, but as a narrative it kills the momentum every time they focus on what happened in the past instead of how the characters are dealing with it in the present. like hello a child got bombed and kidnapped??? can we focus on that please
complaining about the romance under the cut, don't like don't read
Again, I truly do not care what Akautsuki sensei says, Hinagiku and Sakura professed their love for each other 50x today, you’re not gonna play in my face and handwave it off lol. It’s not even up for interpretation. No idc who disagrees, I trust my eyes and ears.
The only reason Rosei gets brought up is because of the spring x winter yearning gimmick. They’ve barely even seen each other in a decade while Sakura is with her everyday bro don’t pmo.
"Agents of the Four Seasons (Shunkashuutou Daikousha)" ongoing TV Anime x Tsukaba city collab visual
At the beginning, the world had only one season, Winter. Winter, unable to bear its loneliness, gave up part of its life to create Spring. Eventually, the earth's wish brought Summer and Autumn into being, completing the four seasons. The changing of seasons was to be carried out by human children, and those who fulfilled this role were called "avatars of the four seasons." Hanaha Hinagiku, the incarnation of Spring, together with her escort Sakura Himetaka, begins to travel around the land of "Yamato" in order to bring about the spring season for the first time in ten years...? The sad but beautiful "Tour of Spring" chapter of the story about living deities and their guardians, who are responsible for bringing the seasons into the world, opens here.
Shunkashuutou Daikousha | Ep2 | It’s a beautiful spring view. Hinagiku, you’re everywhere, aren’t you? You appear everywhere because I yearn for you.
