I can't think of any power/technique in One Piece that doesn't 1) have limitations & 2) has a written counter to it so I'm very confused why some people in the fandom space are acting like Domi Reversi is a broken ability that Oda has no logical way to counteract
In fact, Oda has almost 100% already hinted to the counter to Domi Reversi!!
It's clear that Imu's abilities are mimicking the board game called Othello/Reversi & in order to start flipping pieces you need to sandwich them between ones of the same color, which you can see the characters already starting to figure out in the panel above. This also explains why Dorry AND Brogy were targeted by Imu as "dual kings". Imu needs TWO to "win the game".
So following that train of thought it ALSO makes sense why 1) Imu is afraid of Joyboy/Nika 2) The WG has been trying to keep the gomu gomu fruit from being eaten & 3) Why Gear 5/Nika is WHITE
Because that's the natural counter to Domi Reversi!! Nika can FLIP the pieces to "white" & "win the game"!!
However, like stated earlier it seems we need TWO white pieces to get started. If Luffy barely has any understanding of how Gear 5 works how can he get his second to start the "game"?
Well.....what if Oda set up a second "Nika"? A second "white" piece?
Bonney can also turn "white"! Her DF abilities literally allow her to manipulate reality! She is more than capable of helping Luffy "win the game" y'all! THIS would be a perfect reason why she went to Elbaph with the crew instead of Oda repairing Kuma & sending them on their way! He NEEDS Bonney's help & even then, if it wasn't for Luffy showing her Gear 5 she wouldn't have been able to turn into Joygirl in the first place, hence proving that Gear 5 was essential!! It's almost too perfect of a set up imo.
So when Roger says he was "too early" I'm thinking this is exactly what he means. The Gomu Gomu needs to not only be consumed, but awakened to defeat Imu because it's the ONLY thing which can defeat this seemingly unbeatable ability. This is why no matter how strong Rocks is, he was destined to fail. He might've been trying to find the Gomu Gomu fruit himself, but it wasn't destined for HIM.
BTW, This wouldn't even be the first time Luffy is the only person who can counter an overpowered villain!!
I said it once & I'll day it again: It ALWAYS comes back to Skypiea. Most important arc in the show? More likely than you think!
