editing problems we need to address
hello everyone! there have been a few incidents Iβve been noticing in the past few days that I feel I should say something.
first off, I would encourage everyone to reblog edits that you like. mass liking does absolutely nothing. this isnβt Twitter or Instagram, liking someoneβs edits (art and writing also!) does not help an βalgorithmβ bring the edits to more people. from my experience, likes are almost always used on mutuals personal posts (as a way of saying βI see youβ or βI agreeβ), or bookmarking content you want to look back on later and reblog. liking does not encourage your favorite editors as you might believe. (in fact, from now on, if you spam-like over like 7+ edits without reblogging any, I will block you. I have a followers who donβt even reblog my stuff, which is super discouraging).
second, a reminder editing is a time-consuming process. not only do editors have to deal with people not reblogging their work, but also reposting their work without credit. whether or not someone merely βadds filters and stickers,β they still took time out of their lives to edit. for me, editing is a multi-step process. do you know how many programs I use? how long I take to make sure I pick the right colors and backgrounds? struggle making transparents of gifs? reposting edits, like with ANY OTHER MEDIA, is simply a βfuck youβ to us. it means you donβt care about our time, effort, or creativity to take seriously. and when editors decide to leave, many people are upset, when they either didnβt interact with their work in the first place, or reposted their content on other platforms.
third, if you come across edits of your favorite creators on ANY platform that is not Tumblr, please inform them. report the pin or post and report the account. Pinterest is notorious for content stealing. Iβm unsure if these editors would like me sharing the name of the Pinterest account, so I will just say there has been a user stealing icons and proceeded to say they will not be giving credit because of the editorβs so called βminimal effort.β They currently have 97 followers from stealing content. So please, if you come across this user from other posts, block and report.
(And a notice from me - Tumgir is an offbrand tumblr that steals posts from here. Itβs full of ads and potential malware. I have unfortunately seen a few of my edits hosted on there.
An example of why this is bad - someone comes across my icons on the web because they decide to search βmafuyu asahina icons.β Hm, thereβs no source however. So it must be free to use, right? Or hm, I canβt find any credit, so Iβll just say βcredits to the editor/artist.β This can happen to anyone.
As of now, I donβt know any way to take it down, as Tumgir is very popular for taking random images on the internet and hosting them. So I encourage people stay away from the site in general. Do not use anything you see on there, and if you want to find the source, reverse image search is your friend.)
