“There was something terribly wrong with her, all the way inside. She was like a big diamond with a dead spot in the middle. I was supposed to breathe life into that dead spot, but it hadn’t worked.”

10 Things I Wish I Knew Before University
You are going to feel like dropping out. I would say to stick it out for the first year and sit for finals. If you get a good grade for your finals, that could really give your confidence a boost and motivate you to keep going. And then, if you still feel like dropping out or changing majors, you should do as much research as possible.
Feeling pressured to do more things. During my first year, I said yes to everything–even things that I didn’t feel like doing. I felt like if I didn’t, I’d be missing out on something really important or fun. FOMO, basically. However, more often than not, I wasn’t missing much and these opportunities will arise again very soon.
Buying too many unnecessary things. I bought so many stationery and notebooks before I started uni in hopes that they would motivate me to study. I ended up not using even half of them my first year. At least, I’d be set for supplies until I graduate.
Revising in uni is not the same as revising in high school. I used to think I could study last minute for a test, like I did in high school. I learned the hard way that that wasn’t the case at all. Now, I review the topics after every lecture. The key is to keep up because all those lectures are going to pile up really fast.
Past papers are your new best friend. I find that professors have their favourite questions that they like to give out. During finals, they might even use the same exact questions as they did in tests!
Failing/Getting a low grade in a test isn’t going to ruin your life. I once got so caught up on that one test. But luckily during finals, I snapped out of it and just tried my best. My final grade wasn’t too bad. You live and you learn.
Wear whatever you want (as long as it doesn’t get you in trouble). When I wear a hoodie and sweatpants, I get comments that I look like I just rolled out of bed (which I did, duh). And when I have really nice makeup on and do my hair, I’m trying to impress someone. I think people just like to run their mouth and it’s nothing personal, so you shouldn’t care what they say anyway.
Keep in touch with friends outside your university. It can really come in handy during times when you really have to vent about someone in your classes. They can also help you keep grounded and have a different perspective.
You don’t have to love the library. I’m the kind of girl who studies lying on her stomach on the bed with papers and books surrounding me and my cat stepping on them occasionally. I think the library is too quiet and public for me. And if you’re the same way and prefer the cafe or elsewhere, then that’s okay too. The goal here is that you get your studying done.
Stay healthy. Whenever it’s near finals, I would abandon every other responsibility except studying. I would stop eating healthy and quit exercising, all in the name of making time to study. But they should go hand-in-hand with studying and not one or the other. I find that the better I take care of myself, the better my grades are. You should also get enough sleep–this, I never fail to do.
GET EXCITED ABOUT YOUR GOALS! THEY ARE THE THINGS YOU WANT! AND YOU CAN GET A LITTLE CLOSER TO ACHIEVING THEM EVERY DAY!
I noticed I lack self-discipline. How can I gain that??? I feel immobile to doing anything :( #mentalhealth #advicehelp
hello, honey! I think we’ve all struggled with our self-discipline before. it’s a hard thing to master! so let me start this by saying:
self-discipline is a learned behavior! it takes practice! think of it like a muscle. the more you do activities that strengthen that muscle, the stronger it becomes over time.
here’s a few things that could help build your self-discipline:
break your goal into small, achievable goals
if you want to study better, start by studying for 5 to 15 minutes. if you want to go to sleep earlier, start with 15 to 30 minutes. if you want to be more organized, start by organizing one tiny section at a time.
give yourself a reward
I love to have something to look forward to as I get work done! having that anticipation can be very motivating. and you should reward yourself for the hard work you do! get an iced coffee after taking a test, watch your favorite movie after finishing a study session, have a “cheat day” every now and then! I think you get the gist
remove distractions/temptations
personally, if my phone is out and I notice a notification…I’m gonna check it. it’s constantly a temptation for me. so to combat this, I use apps like Forest or Tide that force me to stay within the app while I study. if having sweets in the house will make it challenging to keep your healthy eating habits, then perhaps you should remove the sweets. set yourself up for success!
forgive, love, and be kind to yourself
there will be times when you succeed and times when you fail. it’s a natural part of life! but please keep moving forward. it’s easy to beat yourself up and get caught up in the guilt…but be tender to yourself and acknowledge that you are trying! try to identify what caused your setback and then work to correct it next time! you got this ♡
September 1 2019
Can you believe it’s September already? Aka the year is basically over it’s going to be Christmas soon omg 😭 more importantly, my mcat is less than 2 weeks away and I am internally screaming
Moved into my new apartment today but didn’t set anything up yet because I came back to spend the rest of the weekend with family. We were gonna try to get this nice couch my parents have owned for a while into the apartment but IT DIDNT FIT THROUGH ANY ENTRANCES so ...it didn’t happen :(
I hope it will be honest and helpful… Hello! Welcome to my new blog! I have to admit I have been nervous about setting up a blog dedicated
So, I started a Law School Blog…
This is something I have been working on for a while and I’ve just posted the introductory post! I would love it if you could check it out!
It has all the details regarding what series I will be featuring on the blog - here is a sneak peek:
The Law and Me Series – A collection of honest essays about my complicated relationship with the law and my journey in studying it.
The Road to Italy – All the updates and musings of my build up to studying abroad
The Law and Film Series – My passion for film and its history, making and impact are not and cannot be separated from my love of law. This series will explore some legal scandals, updates and points of interest in the law with regards to film in a series of short essays.
Italia – I hope once I get to Italy to write about my experience studying law in a foreign country.
Odessa Studies – general musings and commentary on studying law. How I take notes, things I have enjoyed studying, applying for training contracts. A little bit of everything!
I hope you guys like it and I will be sharing updates to it on here too :)
types of study breaks for every situation
if you realize you’ve been studying for hours: grab a snack to refuel your body and watch a sitcom to refuel your brain. then back to the books.
if you’re feeling stressed out: take some deep breaths, text your friends, maybe stare at a wall for a few minutes. gather yourself.
if you can’t seem to focus: get moving and get outside. take out the garbage, check your mail box, maybe walk your dog. just get moving and get fresh air. it’ll help bring you back.
if there’s something else going on in your life and you can’t get it off your mind: write down what’s going through your head, sort of like a diary entry. it’ll help you work things out.
if you’re just mentally and physically exhausted: set a timer for 25-30 minutes and take a nap. any longer and you’ll hit REM and you’ll wake up feeling just as tired. once you wake up, get some caffeine in you.
if the material is boring as hell: find another way to study. see if there’s a crash course video online about it or draw out what you’re trying to learn in diagrams and pictures to make it fun.
if people around you won’t shut up: listen to some music. soundtrack and classical music is always good because they won’t absorb you as much as music with lyrics. white noise (like ocean waves, rain sounds, etc.) also works.
if you only half understand a concept: call/message a friend who’s not in the class and try to teach the material to them. this will help you mentally work through the material and will help you remember it as well.
Want to know how corrupt the pharmaceutical industry is?
See this?
This is called Afrezza. It’s an inhaler for diabetic insulin. That’s right. An inhaler. That means no more needles. It’s only for fast acting insulin, but it could still vastly improve the life of a lot of diabetics.
Imagine having to constantly prick yourself with needles to keep yourself alive, and then suddenly there’s a new product that could change the whole way you live your life for the better.
And here’s the thing: it works. It works really really well. People with diabetes that have been lucky enough to have used it think it’s amazing.
But sadly, it’s probably going to end up as a failure because the pharmaceutical company (a French company called Sanofi) that was in charge of marketing it didn’t care enough to actually try. Not only that, but they made it incredibly expensive so hardly anyone could afford it. Most people have never heard of it, and the way things are going, no one else ever will.
Please reblog this to raise awareness of this product and hopefully get another company to market it. It could change so many lives.
time for a signal boost
i managed to squeeze in the tiniest bit of reading time between my breaks and short days off. to be quite honest, uni has been draining, and while i find solace in bookstagram and interacting with you guys, sometimes i don’t even have the time to go through social media😭 so any time i have off - i am on my own, reading. and it’s nice! there are some days where you work on creating content all day, and others where you just lie in bed and read.💭☕️ . i’m slooowly making progress in the angel’s game. zafón’s work always mesmerises me😍 tell me - what is something that inspires/mesmerises you?☺️ (at Perth, Western Australia) https://www.instagram.com/p/B1boMKCH9xZ/?igshid=gao2pxn94gnq
september will be kind. september will be kind. september will be kind. september will be kind. september will be kind. september will be kind.

30.05 ☀️ Had a break between lunch and my last two classes of the day, so I managed to study as much as I could at the library. Spent straight 12 hours (full of classes) in school and now I’m about to die :)
at some point you’ve got to realise that life doesn’t get better unless you make it. Choose steps to happiness and CHOOSE your mindset and CHOOSING resilience and optimism. Nothing changes unless you do. Growth mindset starts when you choose it.
