There’s something so fascinating about the way Phainon turns his head away from Anaxa’s death. He doesn’t flinch, he deliberately looks away, like even knowing it was Anaxa’s choice doesn’t make it any easier to witness. It’s such a small, human moment, but it speaks volumes. He can’t bear to watch someone he cares about slip away, even on their own terms.

And then there’s Khaslana. The Flame Reaver. The one who’s spent countless cycles stealing coreflames, who did it so many times he's lost hesitation. You’d think by now it would be second nature. But when it’s Anaxa, he looks down too. He doesn’t meet his eyes. He doesn’t watch the life leave. He just stabs and keeps his gaze low, like it’s the one thing he won’t let himself see.

It was so subtle that you only notice when you look closely. He only looks back at Anaxa in surprise after he realizes what Anaxa was trying to do.

It’s such a beautiful symmetry, Phainon and Khaslana, different but at the very core is the same person. Both unable to watch Anaxa’s final moment, because they care so much about him. No words are exchanged, but the way they both look away says more than any confession ever could.
