Change of Pace

Last Sunday (6/8) we headed back to Ghostload Studios/KP Headquaters on a sweltering spring morning with our ice coffees and a bad attitude. Got right to work in the morning sun until our obligatory pizza break.

We got seven tracks on reel to reel cassette and are in the (unnecessary) painstaking process of figuring out logistics for the release...

          This past weekend we brought our label mates, The Mad Doctors, to murder capital of NY according to a 2011 NY Magazine article to kick out the jams on our home turf.

..and this was the outcome

..it may have gotten a little out of hand but that's the way we like it.

Saturday we hit the road early to catch Thee Oh Sees play an outdoor set at McCarren Park running into label mates like ¡Vamanos! slapping some big HIGH FIVES. We later met up with the Doctors in Bushwick at a favorite local watering hole/venue called Don Pedro's. Cannot forget to mention Brooklyn Burro, home of the SF mission burritos (I will stay impartial considering most of my life was spent at a mexican restaurant).

There is not much to say about the bands that night except every single one fucking killed it from start to finish starting with MA, Pony Hand, BIG HUGE, and of course The Mad Doctors. YOU MUST LISTEN TO EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THESE BANDS, SERIOUSLY.

THIS WEEKEND:  Gonna be a huge BANGFEST (ear banging, of course) all weekend. Our micro-label is putting on its first ever festival with 3 bands releasing tapes, SIX POINT is sponsoring the event, and of course PIZZA. You can find all the info here!: King Pizza Records

White Hot

Hello friends - A much needed updated is in order.

Long story short, we have now become a three piece, power trio, if you will. We all have been very busy with our personal lives but continue to play out and write new material whenever possible.

We are now a part of the Brooklyn label King Pizza. A collective of musicians attempting to reek havoc on Brooklyn and the Greater New York. It's humbling to be included with a ton of talented and passionate musicians who believe in each other. https://www.facebook.com/kingpizzarecs

Recording it all to cassette

Just played at one of our favorite joints last night, Quinns in Beacon, NY. Owned and run by Tom, who was a long-time resident of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, where he still owns the pub, Spike Hill. As well as Earwax, a popular record store he opened there in 1989, is still in operation under new ownership.

Another late night at the F shack

Finally got a practice in over the weekend at the ol' f shack. Everything went smooth besides not having a mic. Broke it in the studio, even some quick soldering wouldn't revive that baby. Welp, we'll have to do without for now. 

Our first show after the release of our EP Cosmic Tides is coming up in about 10 days. 

  We'll have these t-shirts printed for that show on March 2nd in Brewster, NY

Studio Day 1:Sun Voyager:Cosmic Tides EP

Recorded today at Boomstick Recording Studio. We laid down drum&bass for three tracks today and got some guitar settings for our next session. Steve will be in the studio next time to help take this shit to another level. 

...still playing around with the EP title but I like the sound of cosmic tides...

Getting closer to studio time

Just a quick update. 

We'll be heading into the studio a few days after Christmas to record our first EP. After recording in at least half a dozen studios over the past 6 years I am hopeful this will be the most comfortable one yet (helps that our engineer is a drummer to eh?).

Comfortability...It is the key to unlocking the true chemistry between musicians. It seems to me that it's way more important in cultivating your sound as opposed to buying expensive equipment or scouting for the most reputable/expensive studio. I was talking with someone the other day about this. If you don't like hanging out with your bandmate outside of practice, it's pretty much guaranteed that your sound will suffer because of it. It's the human interactions and bouncing ideas off each other that really creates exciting music. We're here to create something new and resplendent to this gloomy world of under-appreciated musicians and a music industry with no integrity.

Our band is so fortunate to be surrounded by the friends and musicians we have met over the years. Not to speak for everyone but these human interactions has allowed me to progress as a musician and as a person.
