june first twenty-twenty

today is the first day of pride and it is not a time to be celebrating.

I had imagined such great things for this june, talking about my sexuality with some of the close people in my life, something i’ve never done yet kind of sat with for years. i was excited and nervous and eager and afraid.

but it is not a time to be celebrating as if nothing is happening. as if a pandemic is happening. as if so many innocent black people have been murdered by police officers. the villianizing of the black lives matter movement is horrifying and disgusting, and the movement doesn’t end simply because pride month has started. pride exists because of black queer rioters, and that is something i’ve been thinking about all day and hope people remember.
