"The Wanderer" a.k.a "The Witness" - any prns
Someone who seems to exist solely to drive you crazy, the Wanderer always seems to be just one step ahead of you, no matter where you go! Despite the fact that every step they takes results in the jingle of bells, they seem to be able to sneak past you with no problem.
A seemingly rather airheaded individual with an odd, sickly complexion. Seeks to "lighten your mood", but doesn't seem to be very good at it. Extremely unsubtle. Might have a thing for the baker??????

Caramel Bearclaw - She/Her
The first matriarch of the Bearclaw family, Caramel (Carrie, to friends) was once a humble farmer trying to make the best out of a difficult situation. One day, she took up her pitchfork and struck out on her own. Her quest? To slay a dragon and take it's power.
Months later, she returned, with no dragon head nor heart to show for it. However, she had a skip in her step, and something, she claimed, that was much, much better- a Dragon's Bead.
A unique channeling stone that one could only receive as a gift from a dragon- a condensed form of their very essence. A rare gift, one she claimed she was given for outsmarting a great dragon.
She kept coming and going- disappearing and reappearing abruptly, until eventually settling down over a decade later as a skilled magic user. The Bead was then passed on to her heir, and then her heir's heir, and so on, and so forth....
These days, the Bearclaws are a family of old money celebrities who have long since ceased the tradition of passing that precious gemstone from one family head to the next. Nowadays, it sits in a glass box, a centerpiece in a room full of history.
Some would say it looks lonely.

"Fortuneteller" - They/It/Ze
If you need a hint, then perhaps the town's Fortuneteller is the way to go! A peculiar individual who can see the fates of others within their cards- given you're able to pay the price. (Money. It's money.)
Or, well, it'd normally be money, but the moment you stepped inside, their cat escaped from between your legs, and now they're demanding you find the little escape artist before she gets herself hurt!

decided to goof around in aseprite for the next week of prompts- it's quick, easy, and helps me get practice in! i'll mostly be focusing on the color palettes, although i may use the other two prompts for inspiration as needed haha.
FT is a very minor character in the story- they give you a short series of quests about rescuing their escape-artist-should-be-indoor-cat in exchange for fortunes, and depending on which card you pull, you can be taught a unique move out of it as a reward. mostly, they're just chillin.
....say, do they look kind of familiar? no? just me? alright.

plenty of people have issues, but only sometimes is it serious brain damage.
jules' worst kept secret is their head injury, and its also their greatest inconvenience. that great big scar on their right temple isnt just there for pizazz, after all.
they've had it for a long, long time, and were never able to get it properly treated. as a result, it's given them a whole host of issues- memory problems, chronic migraines and fatigue, brain fog, hand tremors, eye sensitivity, apraxia- the works.
luckily, they've had a long time to adjust to it, too. for the most part, they've got it handled. but bad days will come no matter what- especially when you're least expecting them.
(not to mention, whoever they used to be haunts their every waking step. it's clear, from the remains pre-incident, that whoever they were was skilled. knowledgeable, capable, strong. someone worth knowing, worth loving. how can they ever live up to that person, when they can barely remember how to brush their own teeth? how to speak their first language? can barely grasp their favorite peoples' names?)
with no one to fall back on due to years of self isolation, they're the only one who can preserve the memory of whoever they were. and they know theyre doing a piss poor job at it.
Kalette Sprout - She/They - Tweenager
A young girl from a small town, Kalette has been proclaimed the "Chosen One", destined to set things right after a terrible incident. Wielding nothing but her staff and her wits, she's determined to find a way out of this- and avenge the person she's lost.
...."Chosen One" of what prophecy, exactly? Chokecherry has no idea. But she's not gonna let a kid go running about alone- especially not when they seem to share.... Intersecting goals.
kalette! while a good image of her exists in my head, getting her down on paper is hard. so, i wanted to do some analysis on her and see if i could get anything down.
while she's probably one of the most human-looking characters in the story (next to jules), she iis very much some kind of weird bird critter in my head to me. she just hasnt fully grown into it yet- unfortunately for them puberty is just around the corner!
a little more talking about stuff related to the actual prompt and miscellaneous things under the cut.
lettie is based off of kalette- a veggie hybrid between kale and brussel sprouts! her name is extremely on the nose (and so is her parentage- one mom is kale, the other mom is brussel sprouts). the word sounds enough like a regular name that i decided to keep it as is.
on the topic of names- kalette only shares the 'named directly after the food theyre based on/made of' trait with two other characters! jules- actual name joulutorttu- and a deceased character named caramel bearclaw. (chokecherry doesnt count here, thats a stage/work name). canonically its considered a very antiquated thing to be named directly after what you're made of.
lettie is in an odd spot in her life where she's not really got any grasp on what she's "good at" or "likes to do". she bounces from thing to thing, but has little attachment to most of it.
she does enjoy sports- particularly rugby- but its mostly a casual interest. she's not into it enough to really b-line into getting Really Good at it.
uses the knowledge she gets from playing those games for combat, which makes her a rather unusual opponent.
quick learner who's good at making things up on the fly and self teaching- which is probably why she's managed as well as she has. leads to some interesting misconceptions as a result.
normally a fairly social butterfly, but the stress of the situation has caused her to draw inwards a bit. still prone to speaking her mind.
decent knowledge of cooking, although a good chunk of it is from kuang hcan.
combat skills have been improving under c.c.'s guidance.
has learned a little magic thanks to sorcerer.
good intuition, often depends on gut feelings. this can get her into trouble sometimes.
solely wears the scarf because she thinks it looks cool. closet shonen fan- has probably read all of that one pirate manga.
likes to take things apart and is fairly good at it. still getting a hang of the "putting things back together" part.
