Okay, anonnie. This is about to get long. Please bear with me because it might get ugly and I apologize if it does. 

As we all know, Siwon is Christian. Yesterday, he expressed his opinion on the matter of homosexuality by retweeting an article. A lot of people were hurt by his opinion on homosexuality and gave him a lot of hate for it. Koreaboo wrote an article about it here and here. 

I’m actually quite disappointed on how Koreaboo went about publishing their article:

 I don’t like how everyone is taking this and I’m glad I’m seeing a lot of fans that are supporting him (at least on Facebook), even fans that are homosexual themselves. Just because he doesn’t support gay marriage or the idea of homosexuality, doesn’t mean he’s homophobic. He’s always expressed his Christian beliefs respectfully and he didn’t do anything wrong by retweeting that article. I don’t like that the new thing is “If you don’t support gay marriage, you are a homophobic bigot and you’re stomping on my rights.” By telling people that they can’t defer from your opinion, you are being just as hypocritical. 

Now before everyone jumps on my butt, I’m going to tell you a bit about me: I’m Christian as well (Lutheran to be exact) but I am a supporter of gay marriage. I don’t believe God intended genitals to be a huge deal when loving someone, and I’m not God so I’m not going to take His place and tell others what they can or cannot do. I’ll let Him tell me for Himself when He gets here. Not my job. 

But I also believe that everyone has a right to have their own opinion. 

Siwon didn’t do anything wrong. I may not agree with his opinion, but who am I to judge him for it? Yes, a lot of fans were sad and hurt by his opinion, but I don’t believe that it’s Siwon’s job to say what will please everyone. It’s impossible to please every person and it’s awful to expect that of anyone.

But to wrap things up: Siwon may be Christian and have a different opinion, but that doesn’t mean he’s a homophobic bigot. Personal beliefs may differ between people, but we need to remember the concept of respect. Otherwise, that important idea of equality and freedom will die at a standstill.
