Scenes from Inishbofin, an island off the coast of County Donegal. By this time, under ten people inhabited the island, mostly women. All spoke Gaelic. Most of the women grew up cutting turf and performing their jobs alongside men; the community was close-knit and there were often lively ceilidh dances. The footage is from a Women’s Programme report by Doireann Ní Bhriain broadcast on 21 February 1986.
