London Day #1
After a rough night on the plane (trust me, you don't want to know...), Amanda and I arrived at our hotel and unfortunately our room was not ready. So even though we both desperately needed a shower, or a quick nap, we settled for a cup of coffee and hit the pavement.
Our first stop (well, after a delicious chocolate croissant) was Trafalgar Square. We admired the view of Big Ben from the top of the steps and then went into the National Portrait Gallery to hunt down some famous works of art.
From there we took a long walk around London, past Buckingham palace and through St. James’ park. We were lucky to catch the last bit of the changing of the guard at the palace and met some very friendly squirrels at St. James’. We continued down East to see Big Ben.
I made Amanda hop across the Westminster Bridge for an even better view.
We traveled back across the river Thames to see Westminster Abbey. We weren't allowed to take photos inside the abbey but it was absolutely stunning. Some of the statues and monuments dated into the 10th century! We walked down the same aisle as Princess Diana and Kate Middleton on their wedding days and saw the coronation throne.
We used the rest of the day to relax. It was well deserved.
