In the original SNES version of Super Mario RPG, the blue Toad in the Mushroom Kingdom who has lost his wallet can be made to walk up the stairs next to him and then walk in mid-air simply by Mario blocking his path strategically.
Every NPC in the game has an array of bits deciding various properties in a binary (on or off) manner. One bit is the "can this NPC use stairs?" bit, while another is "can this NPC walk in mid-air?" bit (used for flying NPCs and comedic scenes of them walking in mid-air).
For an unknown reason, this specific Toad uniquely has both of these bits set to "on", resulting in this behavior.
