Supergirl Secret Santa!

Hi guys! It’s approaching that time of year again and you know what that means, a Supergirl Secret Santa!

For those of you who haven’t participated before, much like a physical secret santa exchange, you’ll be given someone to give a gift to, except instead of a physical gift you’ll be making them a fanwork from a prompt that they’ve given you. In return someone else will fill a prompt you’ve sent in and everyone gets to enjoy fandom-y goodness on December 25th.

This particular exchange is focusing on the big femslash fandom ships of Supercorp and Sanvers as @supersantafemslash covered the season 1 ships and smaller ships in the fandom and will cover any requests you guys have for ships you don’t see on their list.

Now if you’re interested in participating in the exchange you can sign up here. Fanwork isn’t limited to fanfic, if you’re a GIFer, Maniper, artist, fanvidder you are certainly welcome too so push the sign up button.

For another who has any questions there’s a nice FAQ here and if you can’t find the answer there just shoot me an ask.

ONE LAST IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: if you want your work to show up at the top of the main supergirl page on ao3, you should go back into your work, click edit, and change the publication date to December 25th. (Perhaps spread the word to your fandom friends - I think lots of people will miss this announcement.)

Changing Your Publication Date

It’s almost Christmas, and there’s just one last thing for you guys to do! Locate your work(s) in the collection here (yours will be the only one(s) visible to you), then hit the Edit button and skip down to the Associations section. Tick off the “Set a different publication date” box and change the date to Dec 25 2017, then save your work. Voila! Now when the collection is revealed, your work will show up at the top of the Supergirl tag. Happy Christmas Eve, everyone!

When is the day of the reveal?

Fics will be revealed Christmas morning as a Christmas gift! :)

How many words do we need to post tonight?

:) all of them! The minimum is 1000 words - ideally your fic is finished!I've gotten more than one message from Very Ambitious Writers along the lines of, "I have the first 7000 words but I still have 18,000 to go, can I post just the first chapter?" Thats not ideal, but sometimes it's where the plot bunnies take us. It's ok to post a chapter 1 with the intention of posting the rest of the fic soon - but if you have less than 1000 words posted (or a finished image, if you're an artist) then we're assuming that you dropped out and passing your prompts to a pinch hitter. <3 the goal is not to be strict or cruel - it's just to make sure that everyone has a gift by Christmas Day - preferably a complete gift!

Just to be clear, is the deadline for posting before the 22nd hits or by the end of the 22nd?

The deadline is the end of the 22nd - so by 11:59pm EST.:) that's soon, folks! Get them in!

Hey, I liked both of my prompts and one of them is already written. I started writing the second one but I'm affraid I won't be able to finish it before the deadline. Can I still post it on the collection after the deadline?

Absolutely!!! Anything you do past 1 prompt fill is a bonus, and doesn't come with a lot of rules. ;)

Can we still edit our works once they're posted on the collection? In case we need to modify something between Dec 22nd and the day of the reveal?

hey friend! You can edit your works once they’re posted, just like any ao3 work! I’m sure this goes without saying, but like - don’t post an empty document with the intention of writing 1000 words on the 23rd/24th. ;) But you are totally able to go in and make changes if you need to!

How to post to the collection

Good morning all! I’ve gotten some messages from folks who are ready to post to the collection, which is awesome!! Here’s a set of directions on how to do that.

Step 1: log in to your ao3 account

Step 2: in the top right-hand corner, click “new work”

Step 3: Fill in all the details about your story/art as you normally would(rating, summary, pairings, tags, etc)

Step 4: When you get to the associations section of the page, type in ‘sssfe17’ as the collection, and pick our collection from the dropdown menu

Step 5: Directly below that, where it asks if you are gifting your work, put in the ao3 username of your assignment, and select them from the dropdown menu

If your assignment did not HAVE an ao3 account when they first signed up for this competition, you may not know their ao3 username! Please message us with their tumblr name, and we will get back to you with the correct ao3 username for them.

Step 6: Continue filling out the information and main body of your work, and post it like you normally would! You do not need to do anything else to keep it from showing up before Christmas Day - the collection is already set not to publish works until then.

Step 7: Chillax until Christmas Day! You’re done, my friend!
