so a quick update, i was working on getting ready to bring this sideblog off hiatus and work on queueing new posts when i found that every post i had on this blog but 2 had been removed from my archive of posts and are no longer visable except under certain ways of accessing them. right now the only way i can access the old posts is by finding reblogs of them and going back to the original post which are still visible as isolated posts. i have sent a ticket into support and i am waiting to hear back but i believe it may have something to do with me switching accounts or my main account being shadow banned about a month ago. right now my main focus will be on finding the old posts and queueing them, and soon i will start queueing some new posts as well, so this sideblog is slowly coming out of hiatus.

The three woven skils atop this hat are articulated, and freely “dance” back and forth like the flapping of a salmon’s tail. The woven skils are by Isabel Rorick, and the carved hat is by her son, Robin Rorick.

Rebecca Belmore has spearheaded Indigenous performance art and decolonizing artistic strategies through multi-media works ranging from instillations to pop-up performance pieces to videos/photography.

In her photography piece ‘Fringe’, Belmore shows the Indigenous woman as she is both damaged by her surrounding, but in the process of healing. The large scar shows what the Indigenous body has been through, but Belmore’s incorporation of traditional Anishinaabe threading patterns and fringe work show that her body as well as her culture are mending.

In the heart of Southern California, our blessings unfurl in the fragrant tendrils of burning white sage, a sacred ritual enshrined in tradition. Yet, this age-old practice, once revered and private, has sadly been misappropriated as a mere trend. The true essence of this ancient custom, steeped in spiritual significance, remains unparalleled. These hands draw inspiration from the teachings of Chris Devers, a revered member of the Pauma Band of Luiseño Indians. It was his profound wisdom that graced my graduation honoring ceremony, infusing it with the authentic sanctity of the ages.
