… Wait, w-what?

- Did he hear of her? From “uncle Randall”? Suddenly Seluna’s eyes widened in surprise, while a light tone of pink colored her pale cheeks and despite the fact she was struggling not to smile like a dork, it was clear that she was incredibly happy. A hand went to grasp the ascot covering her scarred neck with her fingers. -

Y-yeah, that’s me… so he talked a lot about me huh? I didn’t expect that… you know, I met him in a point of the multiverse where he’s only eighteen, so since you called him uncle I guess he’s much more older where you come from? It surprises me that he still remembers me after so many years from his point of view.

An inspector that investigates about supernatural cases? Well, then maybe there’s something you can do for me. Have you ever heard about necromancers? There’s one in particular out there who likes to mess with the mind of my vampire friend and she’s a very dangerous individual… sadly no one knows where she is at the moment.

"You are quite correct. When I was a young lad, Uncle Randall used to regale me and Flora with all sorts of adventures he'd been on with you, and how close of friends the two of you were. Granted, I think he was over-exaggerating just a few of the stories, but he's always like that, isn't he? " Alfendi's musings about the goofball ginger and his antics are pulled short at the term multi-universe. Hm? Ah, so...this isn't exactly the Seluna he might know. He's solved cases regarding 'alternates' or 'dopplegangers' before, being supernatural and all: but he'd never have expected that he'd get to actually talk at length to a friendly alternate!

The world is indeed full of most fascinating and enthralling mystery. 

"Hm? A serious case you need help with? I came to this country on the Commissioner's request, so no doubt he has an important case as well, but seeing as he has yet to inform me on that...tell me about this case. I'll help how I can."

He listened, carefully, before talking.

"Necromancers in general are a dangerous and unpredictable lot - people who control dark magic and arcane arts as easily as you or I would eat an apple, and they can mask their own location with this magic, too. That's not to say all of them are like that. My partner, Justin Lawson, is the most determined and loyal necromancer that aids in solving cases I know, but that aside...I could use equipment to aid in finding her, if you so wished, but the problem is that we'd need something she has touched recently to lock onto her magical signature...and you can't just run after a necromancer like that, you need protection."

"...Magical protection that would take about a few days to work, even, so...it's not exactly the fastest method, thanks to the level of risk involved. Do you need to find her quickly? If so, then you might need to ask a more powerful friend to get involved in this, and I apologize if that is the case. I do wish I could help, but I shan't endanger you or anyone else if it's exceedingly dangerous..."

Ah, good evening, Mr. Layton. It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance.

[Edgeworth offers the inspector a friendly handshake. He doesn’t exactly understand Alfendi’s ghostly pun, but there’s no need to dwell on it.]

I’m Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth. I don’t believe we’ve met before. Are you, perhaps, a forensic detective in London? What brings you to the United States?

Alfendi took the offered hand in a relaxed manner, but the grip given on the shake itself was a firm one, he then letting the hand go and speaking in return.

"Ah, the famed Miles Edgeworth? Quite an honour to meet you, too. I've read quite a few articles in the paper about you." As if the newspapers that weren't sticking out of his pockets in a slighjtly higgedly-piggedly manner weren't enough of an indication he read the papers a lot, haha.

The subject of his job then came up, and Alfendi paused, before answering carefully. "You are close, but I'm an Inspector, not a forensic detective. I do come from London, however - and the Commissioner  simply insisted that I was 'working too hard' and I should go on vacation. Personally, I believe that I don't work hard enough, but he wouldn't be talked out of it, so here I am."

A half-truth - the Commissioner had indeed been the reason why he was here, but....not quite in THAT subtext.

"Hopefully, the sooner this is over, the better, eh?"

"I think there is nothing wrong with your nose," the pianist offered, "You should see my hair. I got the nickname ‘Spikes’ for a reason." Slipping off his cap, he showed the other his signature haircut. Granted, the spikes were a lot more relaxed than they used to be, but they were still there.

"Now I probably look like the man your father was talking about. No blue suit to speak of, however. That’s been gathering dust in the closet for many years."

"Well, it's not a widely shared opinion, but I thank you for the kind words all the same."

(Hilda, in particular, called it a 'shark nose'! Goodness.)

Ah, and there was the spiked hair his father had mused about being one of the most distinctive things about Mister Wright looks-wise. He couldn't help wonder why Mister Wright wasn't still wearing the suit, speaking of which - but it had been a very long time since his father had seen the fellow, so of course, things had no doubt changed since then. He'd heard the 'rumours' about disbarment in the papers, given a...inspector as himself needed to watch and make sure the supernatural things were being covered up correctly.

It would make sense of why he didn't wear the suit, and so Alfendi thought the most sensible and 'gentlemanly' action here was to not bring it up at all. Might be a bit of ill memories attached to that.

"I see...what have you been keeping yourself busy with, then? Also, even if your old suit is dusty...if you would like we could exchange numbers. In case you require my help...it would be a great honour to aid you, if need be, in the same way my father might have done."

"Hello, Mr... Layton? I came to pick up some evidence."

"…! Ah, hello there, madam. I’d be happy to hand over the evidence to you, but it’s required that I know your name, and the evidence in question you wanted…there’s quite a lot of things in storage here, you know?"

She smiles and holds out her badge for him, “Here!”

Careful observation of the badge held out proved quite clearly it was the real thing, and Alfendi's posture relaxed a bit more.

"Thank you kindly for that."

That said, the inspector wasted little time in standing and looking around, a few stray clunkings and clatters heard as he shuffled through the piles of evidence - then finding a plastic container with the evidence he sought. Lucy, a new recruit to the mystery room, told him off and said his organization was 'messy' - but he knew exactly where everything was!

It just....looked disorganized, that was all.

Evidence in hand, he returned to the front part of the office where Miss Fey stood, carefully setting the plastic container of evidence down.

"There we go! Everything's all in order and ready to go, madam. Good luck with whatever case you're doing, and if you need any further help or just wish to ask something - don't be shy! ....Oh, and you can keep the plastic container if it's easier to keep the evidence all sorted that way."

...He needed to buy more of those, speaking of!

"Hello there, young madam! It’s a nice day today, isn’t it?"

‘He speaks very pretty…' She thought stupidly to herself.

"Well, where do you want to go first? There’s so much to show you! Restaurants! Shops! Even a bar, course that bar is where I do my magic shows so I’m able to go there even though I look young." She chuckled, tapping her forehead.

"Oh, don’t worry about favours and not returning favours. It’s all about being a good person and helping those in need."

"Well, madam, even if you aren't all that bothered if I return the favour - that's just the way I was brought up, and the sort of thing I like to do. To help someone in return when they find themselves in a bind feels like the gentlemanly thing to do, you know? Ah, but I'm rambling a bit there. Perhaps a place where one can easily access a variety of things - like a police station or stores - if you know of such a place? It would be handy to know of such a location."

A pause, there, before he laughed.

"Probably silly of me to want to know a place near a police station when I'm supposed to be on vacation, but ah well."

"Mia Fey, from Grossberg Law Offices." She gives a nod, “My partner, Diego Armando, said he had sent a fax with the list of evidence we need for this trial.”

"Mia Fey...ah, yes! You're quite right, Diego Armando did indeed send a fax, but, you know, I still have to follow protocol and ask for the name of the person asking for evidence...and identification. Even I can't hand out evidence without ID, you know...just standard procedure. I do apologize for the fact you have to show ID, but ever since a situation where someone was using a fake cardboard badge and pretending to be a lawyer when he was not - and twisting trials to get guilties and ruin the real lawyer's name - we've had to ask for ID from everyone. You don't mind showing me some ID, do you?"

You noticed that-sciencey-detective, saintonvacation, wrightpanties, chibi2ki, youngkayfaraday, prosecutingartist, justicehasntdiedyet and ask-ellie-layton while investigating a new area.

Having carefully watched the important letter of explanation burn, Alfendi was now left to walk out of the hotel room he was staying in, looking far calmer than he felt. To think that being of power should hide here - but amongst the business and hectic nature of this country, so far, it seemed the perfect spot to hide, so it made sense. That only made taking him into custody and trapping him so he could not harm anyone else all the more important.

For now, though, his instructions were clear - wait for one of his two most trusted partners to arrive, and then contact Barton once he was here. Only, it seemed the serious thoughts whirling in his head were most distracting, because he almost walked right into a mob of people!

"Oh...! My apologies. I should have been more careful. I was...very distracted. I didn't hurt you by accident, did I?"

Just as Alfendi sat down to review evidence this morning, an envelope with a insignia quite familiar to him was spotted amongst the paperwork. He's recognize that anywhere - Commissioner Barton's seal.

Ah, he was wondering when an update of why he'd been sent here to another country would pop up. Carefully opening the letter, it read (all in code, of course, in case someone else got the letter by mistake):

To Alfendi Layton,

By the time you read this, you have no doubt arrived in this country safely. I do apologize for the sudden uprooting when you and the others were doing such fine work, but this is a matter of vital importance.

Your partner, Justin Lawson, has cornered the 'otherworld Jigsaw Killer's current hideout'. Yes, the demon who has been attracting far too much attention and requiring far too much cleaning up on our parts in the normal day to day lives of humans such as me or you.

We cannot afford to move too quickly, despite the fact that supernatural criminal never stays in one place too long...if we all rush in, no doubt he shall realize it, being a creature of great intelligence despite dark thoughts.

Wait for Justin to contact you back about his readiness and arrival, for that will mean the rest of us have arrived, too - and ensure you stick with him no matter what through Forbodium Castle - the place where the demon is said to be hiding in this country. 

He is more experienced in fighting demons than you, so if anything goes wrong, that way you have backup.

As always, burn this letter after reading it. The public cannot know of the supernatural being closer than mere television or fantasy novella, even if this letter is in code.

....! The entire Mystery Room being asked to tackle this case...and for good reason, too.

The Jigsaw Killer was a demon who attacked many innocent humans for fun, in gruesome and gory ways - however, there wasn't nearly enough evidence to ever tie it directly to the creature, for other than the mauled body which made it clear no human could have done that amount of damage - there was only ever one piece of actual evidence found at the scene.

A single, bloodied jigsaw piece. Hence the name 'Jigsaw Killer'. However, the demon was flighty, and seemed to instantly know when the Mystery Room made their move towards him, and so fled easily form place to place - but the reason for travel to this country was one Alfendi had only herad of now, in the letter he'd just read, so...they had the advantage. If this letter was as much a surprise to the Mystery Room itself, then even the Jigsaw Killer, who had recently fled from London to try and hide out for a while, no doubt...would not expect it either.

With his trusted partner Justin by his side....Alfendi smiled at the thought, as he burned the letter as instructed.

Nothing would go wrong at all.

Phoenix shook the inspector’s hand with determination. Granted, he was still a little distracted with the news, but it wasn’t that big of a deal. This time, however, he caught the pun and his face lit up with recognition.

"Time may have passed, but I can tell you now that you have the Wright guy. We may be a little Layt-on introductions but I’m glad to finally meet the Inspector people have been buzzing about!” Now you’ve got him started, oh boy.

"Indeed, it seems like the Wright-ings of you have been most true thus far, and one such as myself should tip their hat to you - that was, if I wore one like my father. Ahha." Chuckling a little at returning the bad puns right back, Alfendi smiled a bit at the puns doing exactly as hoped - making the other more comfortable and relaxed. If anything, Alfendi knew he should probably be nervous around Wright than the other way around, given the lawyer was far more experience, at the current time, than himself - but hey.

He was an 'Inspector', and he worked with lawyers all the time, so that lended to the Layton not being as jittery or nervous.

"Oh? People of this country know about me? Consider me surprised that they see my nose for seeking answers to investigations. Then again, who could miss this nose? Hah."

More bad humour, there.

“My name is Juniper Woods."  She was holding a box of what appeared to be various types of children’s books, but she’d stopped when the man had addressed her.  He wasn’t a familiar face in the least, so she smiled politely.  "Who would you be?”

"Me?  Alfendi Layton's the name - and I'm merely a faraway inspector taking in the sights of this country. Nothing particularly exciting. It's an interesting place to visit on hoilday, but the pace here is a lot busier than what I'm used to."

Well, that had been kind of his own fault. For one, he spent most his time in London cooped up in the Mystery Room and focused on solving cases rather than going outside all too much, so he was used to the 'quiet' and solitary life of that room more than hustle and bustle. He supposed it was a good thing to try and get used to a different pace sooner rather than later.

"You seem to be doing something a bit more interesting than me, at least. Are you getting books for a young friend?"

He'd spotted the children's books, so it seemed a logical deduction to make.

"You’re very proper, you know that?" She chuckled. "Are you from London or somewhere around Europe then?"

Trucy gave him a smile when he introduced himself. “And I’m Trucy Wright, it’s a pleasure to meet you, Mister Alfendi! If you want, I can show you around the area. It’s better to have a local teach you where the best places are, no?” She chuckled. “Are you staying in a hotel near here?”

"You are quite correct in your guess, young madam! I come from London, and am here on a vacation." Keeping the secretive parts of his work a secret, as usual. However, the madam introducing herself makes the inspector in white blink. Is this like a situation of how Flora is his father’s ‘daughter’ and his older sibling, but was adopted? Because he’s sure he’s never heard of Wright having a daughter before this.

Not about to ask, though. That’d be pretty rude. "You have a good point - a local such as yourself would know the best locations better than a newbie such as myself. You are correct in your assumption I am staying at a hotel nearby for the time being, also. If you wouldn’t mind assisting me like that…I’d certainly appreciate the favour, and promise to do my best to return it when able."

"It seems like this nice day is only nice for others," She chuckled, "What do you mean by that? A luckier day than you are having?"

"Well, for one thing, I just came into this country mere minutes ago, and then I got lost. Then I found out the map I held was not very helpful at all and had to get a new one...so, yes, I have been most unlucky, wouldn't you say? But my luck seems to have picked up now - I got to talk to a friendly face such as yourself, didn't I?"

Shrugging with a small grin at that musing, he then realized.

"Ah, I didn't introduce myself - my, that was ungentlemanly of me..Alfendi's the name."

Though he was secretly in another country ON work-related business, he didn't want strangers to know this, so he wouldn't introduce himself AS 'Inspector' Alfendi. That and it sounded waaay too formal and stiffy to use it with a younger madam like this missy here!

Layton, huh?

- Oh, she knows that name well, and the name of the city of London sounds familiar too. The tall woman puts her hands on her sides in a confident manner, smiling brightly and not considering that she might look a little intimidating because of her features. -

It’s nice to meet you too! I’m Seluna… and no, I don’t need you to investigate about anything, but if that’s what you do I’ll keep it in mind! I’m a shaman anyway, so feel free to ask me if you need assistance of a spiritual kind.

The friendly greeting in return is always nice to hear, but it's the madam's name and the article of item she's got around her neck that really catches Alfendi's attention. That orange ascot...he'd recognize it anywhere. "Ah, so you're the 'wonderful Selly' that my uncle Randall always talks about, then? He speaks very highly and...energetically about you a lot, indeed...so it's quite nice to meet a friend of the family like this."

He isn't phased by the words 'shaman' or the fact she's tall at ll. Heck, HE'S really tall. 

"I'll consider it, but...I think I should be the one asking you if you need assistance, not the other way around! You see, the cases I solve...are mainly to help beings with supernatural...powers like yourself! Though I do solve normal cases too, but not as many."

He whispered this, being careful indeed to not allow anyone else to hear...it was a secretive job!

She listened with interest, smiling more at the mention of Jazz adapting to the singer’s vocals, although..

"Jazz is something that so far has escaped my comprehension. ..But I’ve never ..associated with someone who’s ever spoken of it. ..I..guess I..most appreciate music I can dance to."

She was sympathetic but also couldn’t help feeling some amusement. The poor guy. ..The poor seatmate? The smile that returned to her face quickly got pursed. She shook her head. Chuckled lightly, “Yeah, that does suck. .That’s a lot of flying. .That could’ve been horrible.” Her head changed to nodding, and she gathered her arms in front of her chest.

"I can get that way, too. Not all the time, but there’ve been..some incidences." She looked up to him. "I’ve managed to avoid riding in cars..most of my life." She returned to a shake of her head. "What most comes to mind is this one Cessna. I was going skydiving for the first time..in tandem with my dad—meaning he was the one pulling a chute for the two of us. I had no trouble jumping out of that plane. I was like, get me out of here. I was so sick.” Beh.! Blehh.

"You've never listened to jazz before? Well, maybe I should lend you some of my favourite records sometime, so you can listen and maybe understand a bit better - it's a kind of music that can be slow and calming, like a quiet countryside, or fast-paced and upbeat, like the speeding rush of cities like this. So comparing a changing pace to Jazz music seemed a good comparison to make for me, but...I'm rambling again. Ah-ha, I suppose I adore that type of music a bit too much!"

The talk of the flight made Alfendi cringe more, though.

"The less said about the entirety of that plane flight, the better. And it happens every single time I travel on a vehicle, too. I'm not all that certain where the habit came from, but unfortunately it's a negative part of myself I cannot shake, no matter how much I really want to."

...Now that he thought about it, it was likely his big sister's cooking was the cause, here. He adored her, really, but...everything she cooked and he was expected to eat, being the 'little brother', was a disaster...

"Skydiving?! You are a daredevil...I certainly couldn't do that. For many obvious reasons."

Sighs, before smiling again.

"At least the travel is over and I'm here now, to look on the bright side."

Forty-eight? How old was the Professor when- … He never said anything about a kid! How in the world-

"Yes! Yes I’m Phoenix Wright. I… look a little different than what your father has probably described me, but I promise you I’m the one and only!" Okay well, not ‘only’. The multiverse was grand, and perhaps it had a lot to do with this situation. He could question the complications of Alfendi’s and his father’s relationship later. It wasn’t as if Trucy had been born to him eight years ago!

"… If, that is who you heard about me from. Did he speak of me?" He asked this nervously, rubbing the back of his neck. He was so nervous, he had completely missed the pun! What a travesty.

"I suppose you do look a bit different, which is to be expected...it's been a long time since my father has seen you, after all, and I suspect it's been just as long on your end. But you are most certainly still the same fellow my father spoke so highly of, so...it's a pleasure to meet you."

So, Alfendi stuck out a hand in a friendly way for Phoenix to shake, at this point.

"Of course. The case of Labyrinth City...I still remember those stories like they were yesterday. As an inspector, It really catches my attention...only, I suppose I don't exactly solve the same sorts of cases. Hey now, what's with the nervousness, though? I am Al-friendly. I don't bite."

Another bad joke, there...but, hey, if it put Mister Wright at ease, Alfendi didn't mind.

...he looked a lot younger than expected, though. Wow, talk about being able to age gracefully.

She was walking by with a bag of groceries, Seeing that someone had asked her for her help she looked at them. It had seem that they wanted a map of the place. Iris smiled at him with a nod, 

"There’s the police department if you need maps. I’m sure they would be glad to help if you haven’t stopped by there…" 

Thinking a bit she gasped a little to herself, “D-do you need help getting there at all though? I wouldn’t mind helping…It is a bit easy to get lost…” Laughing softly. “Come, follow me. I’ll take you to the department to get a map of the area.” gesturing at him to follow her.

"The police department would be a good option if I knew where that was, true, madam...but the fact is, I only just got off the plane mere minutes ago. Though I do wish I did know the surrounds better, the fact is I do not, so yes, I would very much appreciate help."

Nodding at that, Alfendi gave a thankful smile at the offer of assistance.

"Thank you very much! I'll remember this favour and return it when I can."

Though...being 'shown around' a place outside of what he was used to be a madam...for a moment, he couldn't help but sigh to himself at the irony.

Reminded him of another time that had happened....
