Announcement

Hi, so unfortunately I’m going to be stopping the Supernatural Poetry Challenge after next month. This is due to both dwindling entry numbers and also my own lack of time to run this challenge on time and keep up with it.

I’m really sorry about this, the prompts for this month will go out today and there will be one final round next month (April).

The Fall

Do you ever look at the night sky?

At the heavy face of the moon

and the stars attending her?

So predictable.

So steady.

The moon grows and shrinks,

grows and shrinks.

The stars follow their paths,

forever chasing what they will

never catch.

I was a star,

stuck in my path,

traversing the sky for millennia.

Then I met you.

The only thing steady about you is

    your hand on the wheel of the Impala,

    your hold on any weapon,

    your gaze into my soul.

Sometimes, to distract myself from that gaze,

I count the beats of your heart.

Sometimes it even works.

I’ve become a blazing meteor,

crashing to earth.

I do not fear the fall.

Before the day unfolded

Over those bright hills

Your soft eyes have spilled blue dawn

All down the cheap motel walls

And I complain

Like always

About the way that blue bright shine lands

Against my sleeping face

But you aren’t listening to the

Scratching depth of my morning growl

Instead you tip your head

To hear the itching stomp of my pulse

That says

Please

Stay

I can’t be alone today

And in the sticky booth

You sit with both of your shoulders

Touching the back of the seat

As if the curling weight

of your wings

tugs your posture straight

Maybe they do

I could ask

Or I could turn the nervous heat

Of my attention down

To the smeared remnants of my pie

It’s better this way

Because last night I had that dream

The one that smothers

All the precious light

That I had gathered

It was getting better

My hoard of happiness had

Gently grown

Tiny shooting stems of hope

I should know better

Because the night always comes

And another monster

Snatches what tattered pieces

I have left

Sometimes with howling and claws

And sometimes

with whisky breath

There is always another bed

Another night

Another loss

And somehow you know

You always know

When to brush the hem

Of that stupid coat

Right along the hem of my jeans

It’s better than sex

The promise of your strength

And you keep avoiding death

Like me

With me

And maybe we aren’t

The dreamy soft focus kind of love

But you won’t

Let my soul go

So we sit here at sunrise

With the tacky tic of rubber shoes

And the dim rattling of coffee cups

And maybe you don’t need to breathe

But you do it just for me

To time my own pace

And let the trembling terror crumble

You think you don’t have a soulmate, But man, that’s just not true. ‘Cause never would you hesitate, To put me before you.

You raised me from the fires of hell, And swore that I had worth. That dumbass smile I know so well Has grown since my rebirth.

You claim that I’m some righteous man, But dude, that’s just not me. I always try the best I can, Though little that may be.

You praise me and my heart will burst, ‘Cause chick flicks ain’t my scene. I ain’t the best; I ain’t the worst, But somewhere in between.

You always had my back for me, We’ve battled side by side. I’d have to be blind not to see, Without you I’d have died.

You tried to leave yourself behind In purgatory land. Though Naomi’s a bitch I find, I’m glad she gave a hand.

You and I both have made mistakes, Too big to be forgave. But just one look from you, it makes Me think I can be saved.

You’ve learned from me throughout the years, And gained your own free will. A hunter facing new found fears, No confidence instills.

You may be green, but did the job, Like family, through and through. Followed my lead, unlucky sob, My way’s not right for you.

You aren’t like me, no need to hide Behind a tough guy mask. Emotions would not hurt your pride, So you just have to ask.

You question and the words will twist My tongue on their way out. I only say your friendship’s missed When I must go without.

You gotta know just how I feel, Though I can’t say the words. Believe me though, ‘cause this is real, Not something you’ve misheard.

You must have felt this profound bond, That ties you tight to me. Though lovers not, it’s way beyond What simple friends would be.

You say a soulmate you can’t have, ‘Cause angels have no soul. But Cas, you’re wrong; I gave you half Of my soul long ago.

-“How about a comic book?” (“😏Ya mean like cartoons or-”“ShutUpDean!😡”) “Like when the hero doesn’t know. But Then Their Powers Start To Grow! AND THE HEROES SAVE THE DAY, BECAUSE THEY ALWAYS FIND A WAY!!!”🙌🏼😊

-“True 😂 but for me I’d choose a library… like Alexandrea of old.” (“Sam The Geek, you never change,”🧐 - “Be quiet! Dean”🤨). “Would be ordered, shelving endless, knowledge right there at my hand. Every answer to be found. Such a resource as the world has never seen!”😍

A Dagger of the Mind

Prompt: Ruby’s Knife

He glances up, finds himself aware

Of something hovering in the air

A dagger adorned with powerful words

Inscribed by nameless ancient Kurds

With a handle that he cannot clutch

Near a ceiling even he can’t touch

And reflected in the glare

Are all his failures laid bare

Because hovering above

Are faces of those he dared to love

Their crying forms encased in flame

Voices calling out his name

Knowing full well who to blame

Who ought to carry all that shame

A two-faced woman holds his gaze

Says she’ll save him from this maze

Though at least, just have the brains

To do away with human veins

Can’t wash away inhuman stains

Just cast off all those human chains

Until nothing human remains!

He closes his eyes,

Perhaps he screams,

A flash!

Back in bed, and free from dreams.
