“Jacqueline, enough is enough... You’re a grown woman, and I’m done entertaining this nonsense.”
Hours later, her aunt’s chastising words still washed over Jack like scalding bathwater, oscillating between icy cold anger and boiling hot betrayal. It made her clammy skin itch and shiver against the cold Michigan air as she wandered aimlessly around the town she thought she knew.
“You can recite spells ‘til you’re blue in the face, but your power will never be what it once was.” Aunt Morgan said in a firm, impersonal tone and primly smoothed the shoulders of her cardigan. She wouldn’t meet Jack’s eyes for more than a couple seconds. “You’re not a special exception, and I won’t enable this--this delusion any longer. It’s time to face the facts before you become a danger to yourself, or this community.”
That her aunt thought so little of her grated against Jack’s ego--and, loathe as she was to admit, hurt her feelings. She knew she wasn’t special (or whatever), but she was smart. Jack read enough tomes and tracked down enough eccentric wizards over the years to know that magic always had a loophole or something, you just had to be willing to look for it.
Jack’s feet came to a halt beside a very familiar playground, and that gave her an idea. Pulling out her phone, her cold fingers fumbled with the touch screen until finally pulling up the contact she wanted. She hesitated, just for a second, before hitting the call button. It rang three times before the line picked up.
“Hey, Stef. It’s Jack.” She sniffled against the cold and chuckled. “I’ve, uh, got a helluva MLM pitch for you. Interested?”
AVAN JOGIA & KELLI BERGLUND as ulysses zayne and carly carlson └ Now Apocalypse - Season 01• Episode 09
“You’re totally one of those people who gets a boyfriend and disappears, right?”
skyecaldwell:
“I mean I got knocked up pre-baby, that should say something?” she said before bursting into laughter at his joke. “You are always so funny.” she said fondly, before blinking a little as she tried to make sense of his words, glancing around to see who else was around before turning back to Mal. “Oooh, you think I’m getting laid today?”
“I’m no expert, but isn’t that how it... usually works?” Mal let out a short laugh and shook his head. He hadn’t been in town long, he certainly hadn’t planned on making any friends, but he was very glad he met Skye when he did. “Anything’s possible, depends how you feel about MILFs though.” He glanced toward the other end of the bar and inclined his head subtly. “She bought this round. Might be an actual cougar too, but don’t hold me to it.”

“Don’t judge me, it’s not often I get to go wild these days.” Skye pouted. Ever since she had gotten pregnant her visits to the bar had stopped abruptly but now that Dawn was eating solids, she could start to relax a little and man, did that feel good. “Was that like my third shot? Fourth? I wasn’t keeping count.” she chuckled as she downed her shot of tequila.
“I’ll have to take your word for it, I didn’t know you pre-baby--” Mal countered before cocking his head and voicing the joke his mouth refused to hold back. “--or before the Dawn of time? Anyway, according to your tab, that’s only shot number two.” A sly grin tugged at the corner of his mouth as he filled two more shot glasses and placed them in front of her. “Buuut thanks to some very generous patrons, you’re now up to five.”
I’ve always had a simultaneous fear of, and attraction toward the unknown. And in these f*cking dark and scary times, it’s easy to adapt a “what’s difference does it make?” attitude. So I often find myself in these situations where my heart’s pounding so fast I can barely breathe. And I can’t tell if it’s excitement, or terror, or both. It’s not like I’m brave or anything, it’s more reckless stupidity, and adrenaline fix, throwing myself into the void to see what happens.
