The Pharmacy

I don’t understand why T isn’t treated like every other prescription. My prescription says one 10mL vial. They tried to hand me six 1mL vials like it was the exact same thing. First off, where do you get that 6mL equals 10mL? Second, the individual vials cost way more in the long run than the 10mL, it ends up being almost twice as much. I dropped my prescription off before work and came here on my break. Now I’m sitting here waiting for them to fix their mistakes instead of getting food. I’m in a bad mood. ~end rant~

It’s not treated like every other medication because it is a controlled substance.  I don’t know the exact directions on your prescription, or what state you live in, but regulations regarding controlled substances have slowly begun to get more strict. Not just with Testosterone, but with all of them. The controlled substances are separated into categories labelled I, II, III, IV, and V. The lower the number, the more potential for abuse it has. Things like PCP, Heroin, Ecstasy, etc, are schedule I, and are illegal. 

Things like Adderall, Oxycodone, Percocet, etc, are schedule II, and are almost always locked in a safe in the pharmacy. Testosterone is a schedule III drug, and is still highly abused, so its sale is monitored closely, including the amount that is legally allowed to be distributed.  Most states have implemented a maximum of 30 day supplies on schedule III drugs (like testosterone)  Now, as I said, I do not know your prescription, or what it was written for, but I have yet to see anyone come into my pharmacy for a prescription for Testosterone that required 10ML to be used in a month or less. Even so, most manufacturers have discontinued making 10ML vials of Testosterone because of the more strict laws, and the fact that pharmacies are not able to legally sell those vials without committing insurance fraud.

I understand it being a controlled substance and all, but my prescriptions are for one 10mL vial with no refills. A 10mL vial lasts me for about 4 months and then my doctor writes me a new prescription. I understand there are regulations and whatnot, but if my written prescription says 10mL I should receive 10mL (preferably all in one vial since it's half the cost).

I don't see how insurance fraud is in the mix here? I don't use insurance to pay for my testosterone because my insurance won't cover it for the reason I'm using it, they do cover it for other reasons though. Do you just mean with the 10mL vials? Would this no longer be a problem if my prescription was for a lesser amount and I just got more frequent refills? Or for instance, if I got ten 1mL vials?

Either way, I appreciate the info and that I have a better understand of why that was happening. Thank you!

Facial Hair

SO I shaved my entire face about two weeks ago and I've been pleasantly surprised at how quickly my facial hair is growing back! My sideburns were the quickest to come back, and today my mustache started coming back in. I can't stop touching my face 😬😱 I'm a little over five months on T.
