Id have to dig through my screenshots for all the subtle PK references in Silksong, but it is EXTREMELY funny to me that Hornet seems to view him as like...the strange relative that you're somewhat embarressed to be related to, not quite on the verge of 'full hatred' but certainly not favorable in the slightest. The two times she refers to him directly, she uses words such as 'weird/strange' (in passing reference to that side of the family tree) and 'a fool' (in reference to the kingsmoulds, which she also calls crude). It just drives home the fact that while the White Lady seems to have been a grand, majestic goddess, the Pale King seems to have been more of a distant, closed-off shut-in, someone who very much loved his people and his children and his kingdom but also really, REALLY sucked at showing it. Hornet very clearly respects those with bold personalities who are direct in confronting their problems, but the Pale King...does not seem to be that person, and thus lacks her respect.
Which makes it EVEN FUNNIER, of course, when you realize that Hornet is very much her father's daughter- we don't see much of Herrah, yes, but I doubt that Hornet's tendency for scientific curiosity, knack for crafting/inventing, her Deep Seriousness, protective drive for those beneath her, and her seeming difficulty with reading the room sometimes (cough Green Prince final confrontation dialogue cough. Hornet 'are you making a sign/are you sleeping' Hallownest cough cough) came from Herrah. Herrah was fierce and loved fiercely, but...there is a LOT in Hornet that also gives us a pretty clear idea of what the Pale King was like.
Perhaps, in Hornet's mind, she is a little too much of her father's daughter for her own comfort
CRYING THIS IS SO ACCURATE
Excerpt from @prince-liest's Chapter 4 of Vox Mortuorum on AO3.
It takes place after the events of S2, where Vox ends up becoming a resident at the Hazbin Hotel. Yes they both need therapy. Lots.
Hopping on the Vox-meets-human-Alastor train cuz I'm obsessed
Love their past so much! I keep thinking about their cheesy, soft dynamic.
And how Alastor was probably so confused about his feelings at first.
A realization
Can’t get over how obvious it is that Alastor has a strong favoritism for Vox
He kills overlords without rhyme or reason, but he leaves alive the one who is actually a thorn in his side. Vox does a whole shibari musical number on him and Alastor calls him a creep… for putting his hands on people’s shoulders. He doesn’t remember the name nor the face of a guy he supposedly fought twenty times, but he remembers Vox’s compliments from 70-ish years ago word for word. He wipes his hands after touching other people but he grabs Vox and even pulls him close. He can’t stand physical touch but he, the big bad Radio Demon, used to bear it for him when they were friends. He claims Vox is the one who needs him, the only one who was impacted by their falling out, then he creates a whole plan that verges on him knowing Vox down to his mannerisms. He calls Vox obsessed, but he poses for Voxtech cameras, finds any occasion to piss off Vox. He calls Vox every name in the book, but he puts no real conditions on his deal with him, because apparently he still trusts him to not take things too far even after 70 years of fighting.
Like don’t get me wrong, Vox is a creep! But he’s definitely Alastor’s favorite creep. I think that the only one who really saw this was Valentino.
And the funniest part is that Vox could see it too so easily if only he wasn’t so self absorbed and stuck in his own pain
very fitting, I think
I'm obsessed with them help me oh god
I'm obsessed with them help me oh god
My contribution to the "Vox is a creep" discourse 🤡
How to Run the Hazbin Hotel
Had a fun conversation with @birdsaretoddlers in which I learned a lot about how a hotel actually works, because I want to have a reference for fanfiction purposes and also because I keep seeing people wonder what the fuck Alastor actually does as the hotelier/facilities manager. We don't see him doing a ton of work due to the limited runtime of the show, but in Hell's Greatest Dad he not only tells us that he is the facilities manager but it is also confirmed by Charlie; so I'm willing to take that at face value and assume he is, indeed, doing the work. Particularly as once he leaves and Charlie isn't being helpful, Vaggie cannot successfully keep up with running the hotel herself for a significant period of time.
I feel like Vaggie is supposed to be "loss prevention" (security) and guest services, with Charlie helping on guest services and honestly not very much else in terms of actual hotel-running (she is doing all of the redemption things instead; therapy, etc). Vaggie also does the front desk and phones.
Then Alastor is literally everything else: maintenance, housekeeping manager, food & drinks manager and also helping Niffty cook, landscaping. He helps out with security as well. Husk runs the bar, which Alastor still has to stock, and Niffty is the actual housekeeper which Alastor still organizes. He probably has a lot of his little shadow puppets doing work, seeing as he has them repair the fucking building the first time the wall gets blown up, and aside from that it's all him. Lucifer built the hotel but is not doing anything aside from that because it does not occur to him to. I am fully convinced this is contributing to Alastor getting pissed when Lucifer calls him the bellhop, because he actually is wearing. Like eight hats.
The laundry is outsourced. Niffty and Alastor do not have the time, especially because I am pretty sure they are the only ones available to figure out food services. Vaggie technically knows where Alastor gets it done, but she doesn't have the appropriate information and connections to continue getting it done once he leaves. Niffty knows what the truck looks like and when and where it arrives, but this is not useful to anyone.
They do not have a sales manager, except inasmuch as you can count Charlie's general efforts and their little commercial at the beginning. Charlie in general, as evidenced in the pilot, has relatively little idea of what goes into running a hotel; she is more focused on redemption efforts, which do take significant time, and she will help with things but it will not occur to her to independently do them herself because she does not know what needs to be done. She bankrolls this whole thing, but Alastor is out here filling out payroll (if he even pays Niffty and Husk, hah) and taxes and balancing the books and placing the orders.
In conclusion, this is why Alastor smokes.
