Recently got a slew of messages angry about my most recent chapter that I posted for my SKZ fanfiction ... ya'll know this is fanfiction right? I haven't bothered responding to them because it's not worth the energy. But like, damn, I get why Stays get a bad name if ya'll are going to be so aggressive about a piece of FANFICTION.
And as a general reply to the messages (who I think are all from the same person), if you don't like it ... don't read it? Because I'm not going to stop writing it. <3 Bye. <3

If I see one more "asking chatgpt *blank* about *character/characters in a fandom* I'm going to lose my goddamn mind. Use your own fucking brain, stop asking AI to do everything. I am thinking about fan fiction writers, but anyone who writes any kind of fiction can answer. (As far as I’m aware, non-fiction is usually written in the past tense - but if I’m wrong do let me know!)

When I was young I gathered that all serious works of fiction were written in the past tense (past tense third person to be precise) so that is what i did when I started writing. However my mind was blown by the power and immediacy of Margaret Atwood writing in the present tense so I started to experiment with it myself, and now i strongly favour it. I get the impression that past is still the most commonly used, but I’m prepared to be surprised!

I am PRO past tense. I will read present tense, but I find I am much much pickier and will often ditch a story faster if it's in present tense and I'm not immediately engaged. I think writing in present tense is -harder- which is probably why I am pickier about it.
I will also almost never read 1st person fanfiction - I find it cringey? But 1st person fiction, here for it.
