          “Really?” He looks at Benny with wide eyes. “Your school allowed a werewolf to apply? That’s so cool! I’ve never been anywhere that was that relaxed about werewolves.” Props to Benny’s high school, Lukas couldn’t imagine such a thing.

              He wondered how much supernatural stuff this town got. “I’ve seen quite a few things,” he answers, meaning that he probably would believe whatever they’d seen. “Do they all attend your high school? Is it like a mixed-race school or something?”

             Lukas closed the fridge door. He wouldn’t make a mess, he wasn’t completely without manners after all. Even if Benny hadn’t caught him, he wouldn’t have made a mess before leaving. He was a pretty clean wolf. “But when you stick it in the freezer it gets a freezer burn taste to it.”

              Opening up the freezer, Lukas peers in to see what’s inside. He figured he’d repay the kindness of not letting the hunters get him by bringing Benny’s family a deer later that week. Plus then he could replace whatever he ended up eating. Reaching in, he pulls out the pre-packaged frozen meat and stares at it for a moment. He guessed he could eat it frozen…. Though warm and fresh was always better.

              “Tell me more about this school of yours that so accepting of non human races.”

“They didn’t actually know he was a werewolf.” Yeah, as much as Benny wanted to give this guy good news about an accepting and tolerant school that allowed for supernatural applications on the daily... They weren’t exactly there yet. And yet, so many supernatural beings did go to Benny’s school. From the werewolf to multiple vampires. Ghosts and a siren.

Benny continued to watch Lukas with unabashed interest. The guy was pretty polite, so that was something. Was it too early to say he liked him, because he definitely liked him. He wasn’t giving off any of those usual ‘bad guy’ vibes. “I wish I could say I went to like an official mixed-race school like that, but uh... no, I’m sorry, man. But there are a ton of supernatural things going down in this town. It’s not a bad place to be. Well, other than the vampires. And even then its only certain vampires.”

         The fact that he was so at ease with telling people he was a werewolf was probably one of the reasons hunters always knew where he was. But Lukas believed in being honest. He thought it would help end the fear people had of wolves, if they saw that he wasn’t frightening. Though other than hunters, the only thing worse to come out to were Team Jacob fans. He hoped Benny wasn’t a die-hard Twilight nerd. They also got so weird.

             “You accepted that a bit easily,” he muses. “Most people either think I’m crazy or just don’t get the joke.”

              His eyes flash the yellow-gold that showed he wasn’t an alpha. “I’m guessing I’m not your first wolf, or at least not your first encounter with something not quite human?”

            Now seeming more at ease since the hunters had vanished for the moment, Lukas moved in the direction of Benny’s fridge. He’d already let himself into the house, he figured he’d already stepped over enough bounds that he may as well step over more by helping himself to something to eat.

           Still, “have any meat?”

Benny wasn’t familiar enough with werewolves to understand the differences between the eye colors, but seeing that yellow-gold was pretty cool! The teenage grinned a bit.

“We had a werewolf at our highschool last year. And believe it or not but me and my best friend kinda deal with the supernatural around here. You wouldn’t believe some of the stuff we’ve seen. Or maybe you would.”

Not to mention that Benny himself was ‘supernatural’.

Following Lukas back over to the fridge, Benny just wanted to make sure everything remained as neat and tidy as his grandmother left it.

“Meat? I think so, in the freezer. But it’s frozen. Because we're not werewolves.”

            Lukas kept glancing towards the windows, his body tense as if he were ready to run at any moment. The only thing keeping him awake though was the adrenaline rushing through him. Running for your life did a good job of giving you a rush.

               “You make it sound like I would have an old lady beating me to death with her handbag,” he answers.

              As the lights passed away into the distance, a sigh of relief left his lips. He figured they’d double back at some point. They’d chased him this far, no doubt they’d realise he was still in town somewhere. He really didn’t want to get his head cut off at any point.

            “So, mind housing a weird stranger for a few hours? I promise I’ll probably only sleep in a ball on the floor. Or I can bark at the neighbors for you.” Yep, a werewolf joke.

The lights outside faded away, though as someone who’s watched more than a handful of horror movies Benny knew not to trust the safety of outside based on that alone. Likely, they would double back at some point. See, he’s not stupid.

“Werewolf! I knew it!” He all but shouted, pointing a finger at the other boy. If his exclamation startled the accused werewolf, Benny didn’t acknowledge it.

“Well, I mean... I didn’t know it, but I knew something weird was up with you.” Benny was all about tact. Or rather, the lack of it.

“Is there something I can do for you?”

“Sorry, was I staring? I kinda of spaced out there.”

          He watches the other warily as he walked towards the window. All the other boy had to do was call out to those outside and Lukas would be in a shit ton of trouble. It would be too easy to corner him in the house. He didn’t want to run anymore tonight. He was tired. ( running nonstop for days did that to a person. even were-persons. )

               “Didn’t do nothin’ to them,” he replies. And that’s true. He was actually quite peaceful. “This is like, extreme racism. Very extreme. If they catch me, I’m dead.” He hoped the other would be merciful enough to let him stick around, at least for a little while.

                Of course it wouldn’t take much for Lukas to overpower a human. He was faster and stronger, but he didn’t like fighting. He just wanted this random teen to let him stay until it was safe. Hell, Lukas would be thankful to lay down on the basement floor for a few hours.

              “My name is Lukas,” he says, hoping that if he doesn’t seem like some delinquent on the run from cops or something, he’d seem more trustworthy. “I just need to hide for a bit.”

For all Benny knew this guy could be an escaped convict. Those lights could belong to the cops. Maybe even the RCMP. What if this guy was a murderer? Benny gave the stranger a sweeping look from head to toe. He did so with the subtly of a bull in a china shop. He wasn’t sure what he was looking for-- A sign that proclaimed “Hi, I’m a serial killer. Please return me to the nearest police station” or maybe something... supernatural. Benny was starting to get that feeling.

“That’s not suspicious at all. Lucky for you my Grandma is out of town, otherwise you wouldn’t have made it even this far.”

This wasn’t a great start to proving to his Grandma he was old enough and mature enough to be left home alone. Actually, this was probably one of the worst case scenarios, right next to summoning a demon. Again.

“I’m Benny.”

           Flash lights shine through the windows, proof of the hunters still looking for Lukas. ( though they probably didn’t expect him to have broken into someone’s house. ) Lukas ducks instinctively at the sigh of lights. Gold eyes flash for a moment before he stands up again to face the slightly younger male.

               “There has to be breaking for it to be breaking and entering,” he answers. Its obvious by Lukas’ body language that he’s nervous. Not of the teen before him, but of the hunters somewhere outside on the streets. His gaze keeps flickering back towards the way he’d come in. “And I have done no breaking.” He tries to offer a smile, but he’s too jumpy.

             He flinches at noises he picks up with his enhanced hearing. He wasn’t usually this jumpy, but he’d been running nonstop for days. He was tired and it made him more nervous and afraid.

“Good point.”

When the lights briefly shined through the blinds of the windows, casting haunting shadows around the room, Benny set aside his late night snack to go check out what the big deal was. However, as he approached the window, about to peek through the blinds... he thought better of it and turned back to the ‘mysterious stranger’. Those lights were definitely sweeping the area, so maybe that meant--

“Hey, are people looking for you? What’d you do?”

          He’d been running from hunters all night. They’d chased him straight into the boundaries of some town called White Chapel and in an effort to get away, he’d leapt into someone’s backyard. Due to his enhanced hearing, he could hear their footsteps still rounding towards him. And so Lukas made a last minute decision and yanked open the backdoor of the house, hoping to hide out in the owner’s basement or something and leave before dawn.

           What he was not expecting was to literally run into one of the residents of the house. 

           “This probably looks like I’m breaking and entering.”

And there was seventeen year old Benny Weir standing in the pale glow of the open refrigerator in an otherwise darkened kitchen, a cold slice of pizza in one hand. Although Benny Weir was accustomed to dealing with the supernatural, he wasn’t use to strangers running into his house. This, of course, provided some confusion.

“You’re definitely breaking and entering.”

So this guy was definitely not a vampire. Vampires were required to ask permission to enter a home first.

“Maybe, yeah.” He grinned to help the sense of normalcy. He wanted to make sure Benny completely understood, as far as Ethan was concerned Benny was just Benny no matter what. 

“Can we stop at the store? We can get sodas, and I can get the gloves.” Ethan’s mind was in multiple places, making sure they were prepared to spend the night together just chilling out as well as getting himself together mentally. “Until I get the hang of them, maybe you’ll actually win one.” The Seer joked as he headed off to gather his things to head back to his house.

“Oh yeah, sure.” Again he was reminded of Ethan’s attempts to deal with his abilities as a Seer. Man, that must have been so hard to remember constantly. Benny wasn’t sure if he’d be able to do it, if he was in Ethan’s position. So he’ll support his best friend any way he can. This was definitely normal. “You sure gloves will help?” Following Ethan out of the room, Benny shut the door behind him. Leaving that open would have been like leaving a big ol’ neon sign proclaiming their snooping around.

“You’re already a soulless, undead creature of the night. How much worse can you get?”

Seventeen year old Benny Weir never expected much from life. He lived each day as it came. Video games, junk food, sci-fi movies... He didn’t make much of an effort to break out of that stereotypical “geek” role. Unlike his best friend Ethan, he didn’t care what others thought of him. Their words were more or less brushed away. More or less forgotten.

While over his best friend house on an otherwise normal Friday evening, the two boys discovered that Ethan’s babysitter was secretly a vampire when they stumbled across her in the midst of feeding. As to be expected, there was a lot of screaming. You see, Whitechapel, Ontario was anything but a normal town, filled with less than normal people. Benny himself soon discovered he had that extra touch of the supernatural, manifesting itself in his ability to wield magic. A Spellmaster, his grandmother told him, though he suspected that was just a fancy way of saying Witch. He, his best friend Ethan, and Ethan’s babysitter (turned fledgling vampire) Sarah soon took it upon themselves to fight off forces who meant to do their town harm.

Werewolves, sirens, ghosts and demons-- The group of teens have seen it all. Vampires, however, seemed to be the small town's specialty, and both Benny and Ethan became adept at dealing with vampires who had terrible agendas, though not without Sarah as their muscle.

When an American town's increasing number of "animal attacks" inevitably made the news, it didn't take long for Benny to put together the pieces. After all, those animal attacks sounded awfully familiar. Although it meant leaving behind his hometown, Benny set off for America with help from his grandmother, magic, and a half dozen lies to get him to town. Let's just say he's not exactly here for the "Highschool Exchange Program".
