Today I Went Out Of My Way To Help An Old Man.
Today was preettyy eventful.
I woke up at around 1 O’clock (ACCEPTABLE OKAY! >.> I slept at around 4 in the morning) and I showered and got ready to go to my cousin’s house (Who was leaving town) I helped them get ready, fed her baby and then rocked him to sleep. By the time we left for the airport, it was already pretty late but we weren’t in a hurry (The cousin has OCD, I’m more than convinced of it) Anyway, they left so I came home alone in a cab. Since no one was home I decided to go to the mall and stock up on my art supplies. Once there, I was checking the thickness of some brushes when an old man approached me and asked me whether I can help him out. I was more than willing to and spent a good 15 minutes helping him find supplies.
When he told me that he had enough he told me to go since he felt bad enough for wasting my time. I told him not at all and to ask if he wanted to know anything else. I was in the queue near the cashier when he came back with an apologetic smile asking me for more assistance. I don’t know what it was, maybe the fact that he was collecting art supplies too and they were for his little grandchildren, I left the queue (it was a pretty long one) and helped him find everything he needed. It feels so good to help someone, especially when you go out of your way to do it. It’s a really fulfilling experience and I had a smile on the whole night. This is why I believe that there is no such thing as a selfless act. You do something that “costs” you something but that feeling you get when you help someone and know of their gratitude is priceless.
This world is a beautiful place with beautiful people, sometimes we just don’t know where to look. :)
