i've been wanting to see the infamous lerati rafo clips for quite a while. so i went through the arcanum and sanderson's streams and found them in case anyone else is curious! tumblr won't let me put two videos in one post, so here's Ye Olde First RAFO if you're interested lol :) this one is from near the end of the 7th spoiler stream posted in December of 2025!

This book is so full of quoteable stuff I'm not okay I will have to go back and write that shit down or something. "Failure is the mark of a life well lived" and gives a whole reasonable explanation for it too huh

I do not like the 500 pages long battles interrupted by Pibu who sucks on rockbuds DUDE how do you expect me to read all that in one go? Battles are meant to be read in one sitting I have to go to sleeep!!!
Don't wanna know what kind of messed up things the author is processing for himself through these characters but I will say that it's spot on
Moash really didn't have to make the Bridge Four salute after you-know-what. He really didn't have to be this cruel, and drive the dagger deeper by it on purpose. Anyway my first thought during that scene was that Dalinar could, and would have stopped all the fighting in the room immediately by glueing everybody to the floor. But he wasn't there. And that's the tragic reality of it. Kal froze, and Dalinar wasn't present to be decisive about the aftermath. Ow.
And then it hit Pibu, Kaladin was his Tien.
It's so funny to discuss the Shards because they are such complex characters by being so simple at the same time(the whole Ruin and Conservation tango they were doing, whatever the fuck Autonomy is doing, Honor's incompetence etc). But Rayse is without a doubt just Cosmere's Satan

Here are some design notes (really poorly written I’m sorry it’s 3am and I wrote these really quickly on my phone so I’m not actually sorry)
An underdiscussed aspect of Feruchemical Steel is the vertical. Like let’s say you fell off a cliff and were about to plummet to your doom. As a Steelrunner all you’d have to do is store all your speed at once and then wait for someone to help you back up. From what I can tell I don’t see how speed would be distinguished between the ground and air. This isn’t like Feruchemical Iron where the weight of something is irrelevant to the rate it falls, speed by its nature seems to be something more “mystical” seeing as what we’d ordinarily ascribe to greater speed (stronger muscles, high energy storage, etc.) are covered by other metals. Steel seems to be something more akin to DC’s speed force rather than something that physically alters the Feruchemist’s physiology. So with that said I’ll choose to imagine that Feruchemical Steel’s the optimal fall safety kit.
I mean feruchemical iron very much can be used to protect from falls. Storing weight and spreading out your limbs can allow you to fall slower and not get hurt. Though steel very likely could be used to stall your falling
In hindsight my phrasing’s off, Feruchemical weight definitely has a part to play in the effects of wind resistance against your fall. A more accurate example probably would’ve been Feruchemical Pewter: tapping it PHYSICALLY enlarges your muscles. Feruchemical Iron and Steel in this sense are actually more similar than I initially said: they store how your body exists within a physical space (gravity’s perception of you as something to attract vs. the rate at which motion is possible)
These two get drunk and proceed to make up 100 progressively stupider trolley problems. By the end there isn't even a trolley involved. Everyone they know wishes they'd shut up. They will not shut up.

I personally think Zane is hilarious and the highlight of mistborn, but also that having him not interact with elend even once was one of the biggest mistakes Sanderson ever made as an author. Imagine if he was an actual character and it would have been good for elend's characterization too. Also i think he's gay and only into vin out of competition/the drama of it
YES like what is the point of introducing a secret younger sibling with intense 2007 emo vibes if you're not going to have him argue with elend about who gets the car on the weekends.....i genuinely like every thing about zane's character background cause it's all incredibly interesting and that's why his role in the story (love triangle deus ex machina type beat) is frustrating.
of course the absolute ultimate evolution for the venture bros ha ha is the introduction of even littler sister shan. that would do LEAGUES for elends character as well, now having two siblings who are goth and mistborn and evil coded and have very interesting relationships with the way they can use power (shan being a woman in misogynistic society, zane being illegitimate) compared to how he is allowed to use power. in a perfect mistborn reimagining they are all alive and vin lets them kill straff together as a fun bonding exercise
