Who: Tessa / @wiilderncss Where: Their Home
For a moment. For a long lasting moment she got to experience bliss again. She got to feel like what happiness used to feel like. All of their shitty things in life didn't matter right now - because her lil sis was going to Nationals! ''Holy shit, Nationals!'' Juliet screeched in excitement through the landline at her bandmate after telling him why he and his mates couldn't come around tonight to their garage. Not too many hours ago the team had scored their winning goal to make it to Nationals and Juliet had been their biggest fan from the bleachers - screaming, crying, yelling, hugging everyone of the team who wanted to. She'd immediately stormed the principal's office to basically demand attending the flight - which she'd succeeded in doing, as a supporting parent figure of some sort. Whatever - she got to fucking tag along!
Exclaiming her happiness on the phone, it was at the sound of the front door opening that her giggling fell silent for a second. ''Tess? Tess is that you?'' Who else would it be, surely not their useless sack of a father, ''shit, okay, I need to go, I'll talk to you later okay!'' Juliet hung up the phone to immediately come running towards where Tessa was and pick her up with the biggest smile on her face. ''You did it! You're going to Nationals! Holy fucking shit, I knew you could do it. All of you, but most importantly you, team cap!'' Juliet spun her sister around with laughter, gaining such joy from what her sister and the team achieved. Dropping her back down after a moment, she still held onto her sister's arms, ''and I gotta tell you something else! I've spoken to the principal about attending and I get to come with you all!'' Juliet threw her sister's arms up and down in excitement, gazed into her eyes to see if any of her words came through to her, ''did you hear me? I get to come too! We get to pack our stuff together! Aaaaah - this is so exciting!''
Who: Maia / @legacyfms Where: Their Home
“There you go, mon amie, Pistache. That should help you feel better, non?” Christine asked as if the pony in question would answer her after injecting her medicine and rewarding her with a sugar cube. Or two. Three wouldn’t hurt either, she thought with a chuckle as the pony’s lips tickled the palm of her hand. They weren’t a rescue for horses, not technically at least, but when Pistache the pony had been brought in by one of the girls on the team for a new forever home, Maia had easily convinced Chris later on to keep her. The animal had gone through many years of neglect, how could Chris have said no at the heartbreaking sight of a spirit broken so young. They had bonded right away, there was no denying about that. Sweeping the last bit of Pistache's stable clean, through the window she caught the porch light die from the corner of her eye. Finally. Darkness had set ages ago, whoever had come by must've had big news to tell.
She had meant to go for a shower and leave it at that. Go to bed and wait for another day to come behind shut eyelids. But rest didn't come once she laid in bed and she started to drive herself mad by leaving her thoughts caged inside her head. She'd gotten worked up lately again - and it wasn't just fucking hormones - it was one of those crazy fantasies where she wanted to challenge fate and meet up with someone of the team. Not just someone. Not just anyone. Fuck sake. But she couldn't. A phase, she believed Maia called it when that urge came around the first time, it was just a phase and she'd get over it. But the urge came again. And again. And years passed between but Mon Dieu it drove her to the point of madness every single time.
''Who was here tonight?'' Not even a bonjour when she appeared close to her friend. Restlessness thrummed behind her ribcage, however cool and calm collected she seemed - anyone who'd known her for a while would see right through her. Just like she could read Maia like a goddamn open book by now. ''Don't bullshit me over it being a casual visit, I nearly froze my fucking toes off with how long that took.'' Christine wasn't mad, but there was an edge to her tone. An edge that should not be tested, she was one snap away from losing it. Losing herself in this forever home.

then.
TW: Psychotic breakdown & near death experience
As a child born from a single mother with no man in sight, it had always been the two of them against the world. Born in the heart of Bordeaux, France. Genevieve Béliveau, her mother was called, but to Christine it had always been maman. With no close family in sight, Genevieve's parents had passed away when she and her sister Cosette were still young, partly why her sister had made the decision to move to America years ago.
Her mother was a stylist, a posh and hardworking one at that. Christine was brought everywhere she went, grew up in the most stylish outfits, the latest fashion, and always on point. Needless to say, she’d been bratty from a young age, like mother like daughter. She’d been the popular kid since she started kindergarten, a trait she built her entire personality around and kept with her for all those years. Needless to say, she became spoiled, dominant and gradually restrained her mother from being her own person in the process. Christine had the upper hand at home, this went on for years and years until her mother had a psychotic breakdown and could no longer care for Christine anymore.
As a 15 year old, hardly a grownup, Christine had broken the one person in her life she clung the hardest to. Her own mother. She had watched her getting dragged off to a psychiatric clinic right before her very eyes. Not soon after she'd been picked up by child services herself and sent off to her aunt Cosette in America with only one suitcase by her side with her personal belongings. There she faced years of discipline, the very thing her own mother hadn't been able to get over her. Years of control. Torture, Christine called it. Whereas her mother had been a softie, her auntie had been the complete opposite. A stiff, stuck up bitch of a principal.
Of course, with her aunt being the principal of a university, she ended up at the very university so her aunt could keep her in check. It's how she even earned a spot on the soccer team, though she usually sat benched, being solely there in case backup was needed. Having lived in America for quite some years, her French accent is still very much present, being stuck up about traditions must be a family-thing.
Her new life in America had sucked ass for most years. That was, until she rolled into the university and not only did she meet the team, but Theo specifically. Theo had become her new drug. A love drug. A secret she got to keep all to herself, for their love was disguised as two best friends joined at the hip at all times. They were like Jekyll and Hyde, always up to no good before, during and after school. The world didn't matter anymore after they'd found one another. Being toxic to everybody else, Theo was like red wine to Christine. A poison disguised by a delicious taste leaving her wanting more. Always leaving her wanting more and more.
And when life felt picture fucking perfect, Nationals came around...
now.
The winter's cold still seeps through her skin, reaching her bones. The howls of the wolves that send chills down her spine. The fall that was meant to end her life. The warmth of the blood staining her clothes, the deep red her body surrounded with. The last rays of daylight she caught through blurred sight before it all went dark.
The hunt that broke her spirit.
But her body survived. Somehow, by the help of the winter cold, by the help of unsuspected rescue, by the very hands of Maia Kelly. A secret nobody else was supposed to know. A secret for the two of them to keep. Her survival that wasn't supposed to happen. She'd been picked by the wilderness to be sacrificed for the greater good, for the survival of her fellow teammates. Had it not been for fate to say fuck you to the wilderness and have her survive a drop that any other person of her size wouldn't have. Had it not been for Maia to drag her to a cave that had been empty of danger. Had it not been for rescue to come only days after the fall.
Rescue had come in secret, after the other girls had been picked up to safety, Maia had ensured she'd return with help. Only a handful of people knew of her survival, each of them had sworn to never speak of her rescue in case any of the other girls had ill intended plans to come and do what the wilderness couldn't. For years upon years she'd lived with Maia, keeping herself a secret from the outside world by living off the grid with her friend. Changing her identity from time to time, since Christine Béliveau had officially been declared dead.
Unable to work by her fucked up spine, she takes care of their horse stable on her good days. Whereas Maia found solace in writing her books, Christine found comfort in being around horses. She started Equine Therapy, guiding people through life by the guidance of horses. Living off the grid had been hard, having not been able to reach out to most of the girls had been harder, missing Theo had been the hardest. An urge, a tempt, a longing she had managed to suppress for years. The wine she didn't get to taste for years and years. Leaving her wanting more and more.
EMILY BLUNT. Red Sea Film Festival - Portraits.
fragility was upon her. a snap, and hazel could feel her bottom lip begin to tremble. "ch-cherie. no don't do it." this is what life had become — marked by life. take or be taken. no one had come for them so far, and time had made rations only smaller, and smaller. it was easier to keep a promise to herself that help was coming. they had to come. the terror had approached when fending for themselves was becoming more of a dire need. "f-FUCK!" hands shot up to her ears hoping to block out the sound of cherie's handy work. eyes squeezed tight wishing to erase this from any memory. the image only burned deeper. "holy—" there had been nothing holy of such. cheeks tear burned, "you—" a sudden out of breath feeling sunk hazel into a shock. was she going to have to be violent? decide what would be theirs in order for them to stay alive? to be a taker...
''I - what, Hazel? I did what had to be done? I made sure we survived another day on top of the others we've already been here? There are mouths to feed,'' her voice was stern, unshaken by the violent act she just pursued, ''there is no other way.'' The volume of her voice decreased, sounding defeated. Like hope was slowly drifting away with each and every thwack or cut she made to the poor wildlife. ''We're part of the wilds now, Hazel.... it's kill or be killed.'' Little did she know that much later, they'd turn on each other when there was no game to be killed no more. Humming, almost being fine with their current circumstances, she then slowed in her tracks and looked back up to Hazel, ''y'know what,'' Cherie made a beckoning motion with the cleaver. ''C'mere Hazel, let me show you. It's dead now, you won't be harming it anymore - I can show you how to cut.''
"Oh of course it does." Maia cooed, pouting her lips ever so slightly so she could rub it in. "And what color do you think would suit me more?" She wiggled her eyebrows. Sure she may have been doing this to press Cherie's buttons but they were fun buttons to press, Maia couldn't help it. The more Cherie showed how upset she was about it, the more Maia wanted to mess with her more. Maybe it was like a childhood crush, pulling on pigtails and all that, or maybe Maia was more like her mother than she cared to admit.
Maia laughed at the shove, a bit too painful for it to be anything but anger. She was about to lower the lipstick before Cherie kept yelling. "Wow so now we're all the charity? Fuck you Cherie." She threw the container on the ground in between them. "I'm sorry I didn't grow up with a fucking silver spoon in my mouth like you did. That daddy had to pay for all of this so you could even be on the team." Which wasn't true, Maia knew Cherie held her own with her skills but that didn't mean Maia wasn't fuming.
''Fuck me? Fuck you for stealing it in the first place!'' It was just a container of lipstick, one she could buy fifty more of when they made it out of here, no biggie. But it was her lipstick, one of few things she could onto here. To try and make it through however long they were going to be here, without rescue. Watching Maia throw it to the floor made her fail to catch it and clench her jaws at Maia's words - causing silence to fall for a tense moment as she stared at the muddied container. One second, two seconds, three seconds - five, ten where she remained silent, but then -
Then her eyes moved back to meet Maia's and the voice that left her lips turned ice cold. ''You really wanna know what color I think would suit you, Maia?'' Not a question, she didn't give her any space to answer it when her next words were hissed. ''Blue. Lifeless. From all the air choked out of you.'' That's what she wanted to do, wrap her itching hands around her neck and choke her and get all her anger out. Instead she stood there, not able to push herself onto the other. Not like a coward, rather conflicted by feelings, by the urge to cry. Clearly not able to go on with the threat she made, she picked up the container along with a handful of muddy ground, then came closer up in Maia's face to tell her, ''you bitch,'' before no longer giving her the time of day. Turning away from her, a sob bubbled from her throat and she gracefully tried to brush her hair back when she walked off from camp.
FRINGE — 4.02 “One Night in October”
"Oh I was just saying I'm really glad to be here with you." Eloise said as she tried to hide her growing blush from all the bright lights and noise surrounding them. Of course she's been on dates before but she never felt like this with anyone else. Never felt her heart beat so fast like it knew it was Esme's the moment they saw each other. As they walked forward together, their hands brushed and Eloise couldn't stop the breath hitch. She wanted to just take Esme's hand into hers but felt it was too extreme. Too public and sure they were on a date but maybe Esme didn't want to be seen like that. So Eloise tried to respect that, but it didn't mean she wasn't going to be bold and let their pinkies brush a few more times.
The pier around them was a lot but it also seemed perfect at the same time. The chaos only amplifying the pounding in her chest for Esme. "Honestly I love the pizza place that's near here. But I can go for anything if pizza isn't your thing." She wanted to be accommodating. Perfect. Perfect for Esme. "I also want to see if I can kick your ass at one of these games. We can do with some healthy competition."
Eloise's words made her tuck her hair behind her ear, a nervous reflex as her heart fluttered inside her chest. ''I'm really glad to be here with you, too,'' she reflected just a tad more out of breath. Barely noticeable, but to her it seemed like she was embarrassing herself really. The way their pinkies kept brushing along one another made her almost want to bend her pinky, trying to catch hers in a pinky holding embrace, but even that had her scared of people noticing something other than two friends hanging out. Which it was, they were on a date. But truth be told, Esme was scared shitless. What if she blew it? ''No, no! I mean, yes - yes it is my thing! Not to brag but uh, I know the owner actually,'' having her brother work at the pier meant they got to eat free pizza most of the time.
''Oh?'' Esme chuckled, ''I'd like to see you kick my ass, my brother and I basically grew up here, I've learned from the best.'' It was a tease, because she knew she was absolutely dogshit at most games. But they were fun. Fun memories she cherished. It's why she proposed they'd go here tonight, make some new ones. ''What toppings you like? Pepperoni, funghi....pineapple perhaps?'' There was an anticipating grin on her face as they arrived at the place, waiting for Eloise's answer before she'd order.
'eddie' to unfamiliars. 'edith' to familiars. edith's mouth slightly opened to allow the liquor to be consumed while trying to figure out which category esme was in. unfamiliar....wanting to be familiar. eyes squeezed in a long blink trying to bring clarity to lines blurring. what am i going to do with you... — make me familiar. god, she felt easy in the way her legs shifted beneath the table top. loyalty was clad to those who shared past traumatic experiences. not an eager journalist with an adjacent connection. why did she have to be so fucking hot.
— but her skin was tempting. the way esme's digit teased the edge of her lips. a subtle movement that reeled edith inward without knowing. just slightly. edith could put an end to her misery. enclose their lips long enough to forget the shitty drinks, any ulterior motives. "you think i need to be taught ?" chin tilted, she tried to silence the urge. push its clawing need back down. deep down. some flickering red light alarmed the brunette to not give in. if esme tangled their limbs together in her bed, would she slip away after the comedown and snoop? rummage with the possibility of finding something....anything? was edith simply a pawn, rather than an attraction ? frustration vibrated at her teeth.
She refused to be like any other journalist, prodding, persuading, bugging, plain, the kind anyone wanted to get rid of. Boring. Esme wanted to be of interest to these girls, to make them want her. In whichever way that would be. She wanted to be up close to them, now she sought them out in private. In their local bars, in their homes, at their workplaces, anywhere that meant something to them. She wanted to be a disruptive force in their happy lives. Looking at the sight before her, she was very much aware of what a hot mess Edith was. So vulnerable in her lone state, something - someone Esme could take advantage of. And if it meant breaking some rules, she thought inhaling a shivery breath, so be it. She ached to be alive, too.
This was off the record anyway, well, the part where she’d make Edith scream her name. The tip of her finger wet by her tongue and lips, she wasn’t one to falter easily to temptation, didn’t have the nervousness show on her face but her heartbeat had increased underneath her ribcage. With ease she pushed that finger under Edith’s chin, ran it along her jawline, just a tease, as she glanced into those intimidating eyes. Eyes she averted once, decades ago, out of shyness. Now there wasn’t even a hint of anxiousness present. “I think…” drawling out the words, “...you wouldn’t mind losing control for once. For one night.'' Esme's eyes said it all, how much she wanted this - her. Glancing down from Edith's eyes to her lips and back up. ''You know me, not much and not enough, but we know each other, Edith, give into the temptation...'' Give me what I want.
Who: Elyse / @wiilderncss Where: Elyse's Home
She knows she should've called before just showing up to her house, but Esme liked the element of surprise - to see the girls' reactions when she gave them a surprise visit. Always wanting something and refusing to leave with empty hands. Having returned back to town, with a purpose of collecting as much information as she could from any of the girls, she wondered how Elyse would react when she opened the door. If she opened the door. Ringing the doorbell, it was at the sight of fellow blonde locks she perked up. ''Hi there stranger, do be so kind to let an old friend in. I'm wounded, see,'' she had wrapped a makeshift bandage around her hand, having cut herself this morning. By accident or on purpose? A way of provoking sympathy of a well respected nurse, maybe. ''You wouldn't leave someone bleeding on your doorstep, would you, Elyse?''
Who: Edith / @alpenglowss Where: The Bar
''Oh Edith, Edith, what am I gonna do with you...'' Esme wondered out loud, purposefully, tasting her name in her mouth as if it were a glass of luxurious red wine against her lips instead. Licking her lips, it wasn't wine she tasted but a low quality margarita instead. Watered down, not worth a second order. Not here, not in this place. ''If you're not gonna spit the words out,'' her eyes found the other's as she ran her finger along the sugarcoated rim, ''at least let us go someplace else.'' Pushing her fingertip between her own lips, teasingly almost as she leaned in closer to say something only for Edith to hear. ''Someplace I can teach you how to spit....spit the words outta my mouth into yours....hm?''
Who: Eloise / @legacyfms Where: The Pier / First Date
''What was that? Sorry, I didn't quite catch that,'' in the midst of a group of youth cheering in excitement, Esme had a hard time understanding Eloise clearly, causing her to move closer to the dark haired girl. Walking shoulder to shoulder, her hand briefly brushed past Eloise's, feeling too shy to take her hand in hers - what if it was too soon, what if Eloise didn't like her the way Esme liked her, what if she'd be weirded out by holding hands in public? All questions that rambled through her mind caused by a sprinkle of anxiety. Instead she tried to focus on something else, which wasn't hard to do with all the pretty lights all around them, music blaring and people yelling in rides. Food. She could go for a bite after the long day at school with training after. ''What's your choice of food around here?'' Wondering if Eloise would say the same as her, which would be the pizzeria Toscana all the way at the back, with the most gorgeous view. Well, second most gorgeous view that was ever since she laid eyes on Eloise.
