lips slightly curled. there was so much shared between the two women, and yet so much they didn't know due to separation. "oh, to not have a vehicle sounds heavenly." one less responsibility to take care of. means of transportation had made hazel nervous, but what hadn't? the woman was easily rattled down to the marrow of her bones. just rattled. as light as the term was, the truth was that they had lost a lot. the loss felt detrimental — "elyse." a warm grin took over hazels expressions as they stood waiting for their car.
"letters sound lovely." gentle. just a reminder of the ties between them, but enough space to not drown in the harsh memory. "i went to a gathering leni and emery had..." she quietly recalled. laughter that clouded any bound secrets kept. "drank a little too much if im honest." it wasn't often hazel let herself go, but she'd been nervous. the faces were a reminder of all that was left.. all that she lost. eloise.. — and she had.. a blurry haze of leaving with edith. waking up in her bed. hazel's brows slightly scrunched before she eased. "for the sake of them announcing they married, i suppose. always thought they would tie the knot." there was good that came from such tragedy.
"I would say most of the times it is." Maia said with a laugh. "Sometimes it makes it a pain to get to where you need to go but I work my way around it." After all it was a lot easier with the invention of rideshares. But before it was a lot easier to have excuses to miss things, to continue to isolate herself, but now it was easy for someone to suggest getting her an Uber. As if she couldn't afford it herself. Maia laughed warmly at Hazel's reaction. "She just would never let me fully pull away from her. It'd be annoying if it wasn't so sweet."
Maia laughed warmly and finally looked over at Hazel, taking her in. She looked different of course, they all had with age, but it was still in a way Maia had fully imagined her to be. She missed her, even if Maia wouldn't say it out loud yet. "Well after tonight I'll know your address. Maybe I can send you letters." She tried to offer casually, as if everything inside her was screaming not to get too close. At the mention of Leni and Emery, Maia hummed -- not at all surprised by the news. "Well shit we all called that out there didn't we?" She almost said that she and Eloise bet money on it once but considering who she was talking to Maia decided to let that go.
"I don't blame you. The rare times I do see Tessa I get completely plastered, just like old times." She laughed but she knew it was true. There was only a few people that Maia trusted beforehand to see her in vulnerable moments but Tessa was always one of those people. So it made sense to her that she'd continue to allow Tessa into her life. "Though if I'm being honest I'm surprised more of us didn't end up together. Something about trauma bonds and all that."
