These stairs are fantastic, inspiring and often very useful as well as just beautiful.

House R, Anglet, France by Gardera-D | via
House « R » is situated in Anglet, France on a site approximately 1000 sqm big. The relatively narrow and perfectly rectangular plot of land dedicated for the building (50 m long by 20 m wide) gave the existing ground a strip-like quality that contributed to feed the project.
The north-south orientation of the piece of land, the course of sun, and the pre-existing positioning of neighboring houses have also been important issues for the project conception development.
The house is set back from the street, clearing a space allowing for the parking of 3 cars. This set back is also a voluntary act of positioning the house as a clearly visible “sculptural” presence towards the public area, as opposed to the usual layout of constructions or hedges aligned on the street limit thus providing a “closed” territory. Generosity in public/private “frontier” treatment has been looked after.

Welcome to Derinkuyu, an underground city that once housed up to 20,000 people. In the Cappadocia region, famous for its cave dwellings and underground villages, Derinkuyu stands out for sheer size and complexity. Locals began digging in the 500s BCE. The city consists of over 600 doors, each of which can be closed from the inside. Each floor could be closed off as well. And just to make attacking completely impossible, the entire city was deliberately built without any logic. Its maze-like layout makes navigating the city nightmarish for unfamiliar invaders.

FLOATING TABLE
by Ingo Maurer x Established & Sons
This stunning table lamp by London based design company Industrial Facility in collaboration with Oluce will be previewed this week at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile Milan. The light diffuses downwards from within the metal ‘shade’ and is contained within the glass, giving the impression that it is hovering above the table surface. Air and light seem to be moving. We love the phenomenal interaction it creates with the space around it.
It would look amazing on this iconic Aqua table by Zaha Hadid for Established and Sons, with its curvaceous, undulating forms flowing within space. The lower structural body is made of polyester with a silicon gel top and the whole structure implies movement by adopting the gestures of liquid. What a dynamic combination!
Negotiated...
So, for those who don't know what the negotiated project is, the basics are, I write up my own brief, and go through the entire project from finding a place to build, and other less interesting things, to lots of designing and researching and redesigning, and basically it'd huge. Now for mine, I was taking an apartment in Moor court, and redesigning it to my clients specifications, so there's lots of costs and measurements to account before I even start. But I'm sure I'll get there :) I got my floor plan finally friday, so I've been on it!! The scheme is to be clean, elegant, and bright, to be lavish but modest, something I have referred to as 'minimal opulence'. I'll be sure to give you little snippets before I lose these memory sticks to!
