Super foster dog ELLIE. My sweet pooch just might be getting her forever home. Happy and sad all at once...
I'm working for a new daytime talk show, which is basically like a start up company, which means I spend approximately 18 minutes per day with my husband. When I do have a rare day off, this is how we choose to spend our time. Because we're 13-year-olds trapped in middle aged people bodies.
Hello Los Angeles. I've missed you.
Susan Rousseau, emerging from a cave she's been living in for the past 25 days
Celeb sighting!
I need to start this out by saying that even though I’ve worked in entertainment for years, I am horrible at spotting celebrities. The worst. I certainly keep my eyes open for them, but mostly, I am always just guessing…that girl must be famous because she’s pretty and thin…that dude is for sure on television, although I have no idea where.
So thankfully, the people around me are kind enough to point them out to me. I haven’t exactly been surrounded by well known folks, but I DID:
- See Schmidt (from The New Girl) TWICE in one weekend. First at Ralph’s while he was talking on the phone in the rice and grain aisle (finally deciding to purchase the Uncle Ben’s Instant White Rice). Second, while my friend and I got a pedicure, we watched him chase his daughter back and forth in the window about 15 times. He was eating outside at the restaurant next to the nail place. It was adorably cute. Fun Fact: Schmidt has chicken legs. Really, really skinny!
- Sit almost directly behind Diane Keaton (and a small child) at the Cirque Du Soleil show Iris at the Kodak Theatre..wait, the Dolby Theater (although it was still the Kodak on Saturday when my husband and I went). She is even more stunning in person. And she was super enthused about the show (probably because it’s awesome).
- I guess I also saw Mark Ballas of Dancing With The Stars fame. Although he was in a car and I think we kind of annoyed him. In my defense, I had just arrived in Tinseltown and my friend was so excited to be a part of my first celebrity sighting, we just had to confirm it was actually him before we could drive off on our merry way. And it was.
So, that is that for now. And honestly, life still feels exactly the same. I guess it’s true what Us Weekly says. Celebrities…they’re just like us.
Things I Saw In LA Today
1. A car wash being picketed, by some extremely unenthusiastic folks.
2. A man wearing a bra, with no shirt. Obviously.
3. A brother/sister set of “purse dogs” being pushed around in a stroller.
4. A homeless man pulling down his pants in front of the restaurant I was heading to brunch at.
5. A collection of around 18,000 “adult novelty items”.
Things I Did Not See In LA Today:
1. Breaking Bad, Season 5, Episode 1. I am dying on the inside.
Does this qualify me for "best aunt ever" accolades? I think so.
I'm pretty sure the main reason I moved to LA was so I could follow @wehodaily and understand what in the eff they were talking about.
Why Los Angeles isn't terrible.
Happy First Wedding Anniversary, husband!
I am a road biking machine.
Teamwork
Tonight, on my way home after dinner with friends, I asked a man who looked like he was having a tough time, if he could use some help. It was dark, I'm paranoid scared of people in LA after 9pm, and I've been told countless times women shouldn't talk to random men, as it's dangerous. But, for some reason, I just asked. He looked surprised, then asked if I had a flashlight. He had delivered food and accidentally locked his keys in his car. Standing on a rail, he was using a stick through his barely open sun roof to try to press the unlock button, but he couldn't see the button in the dark. At first, I saw no way I could help, until I remembered I had an awesome flashlight on my iPhone!! I held the spotlight, he wiggled the stick. Then he held the light and I wiggled. We traded spots one last time...and success!! I don't think I'd ever been happier. The stranger and I hi-fived, and then he drove off while I walked home. This ridiculously simple story reminded me why I'm here, why we're all here. To help others. It feels amazing and it's just the right thing to do. So, thanks, delivery driver of Los Angeles. Life lesson one ingrained in my pea brain. Good stuff.
What a gorgeous day...to get shit on by a bird for the first time in my life.
How you know FOR SURE that I am not heading to the Daytime Emmy Awards this weekend.....
Whether I'm in LA, Montreal, Chicago, Belleville or any other city on this planet, I'll always be thinking about this amazing man.
Happy Father's Day, daddio. I miss and love you today, and every other day...
Silver Lake & Me
I've got a new mission in life. It's to be a Silver Lake hipster. But, like, a really successful one. Who's way cooler than I am now. And dresses better. And knows more people.
So, I've got a lot of work ahead of me. I'll keep you posted on progress, because I'm sure you care.
Honest.
Dodgers! Too bad we left before they won in the 10th..
Opps.
Husband visit #1.
This is the only picture we have that documents the fact that yes, Art was in Los Angeles. This amazingly awesome photo was taken at the JD McPherson concert at The Echo.
Concert was ridiculously good and a dance riot of a time. The photographic evidence? I guess all I can say is, "Aren't my fingers pretty???" and "Isn't my husband hot??"
Can't wait until visit #2 (and our first wedding anniversary!!)!!!
