Found this ad for of my senior prom dress! (It was 1984, I went with a sophomore after getting no better offers and being turned down by my drivers-ed partner, best not to talk any more about it! I love that kids can go to dances in groups now, without dates. It never occurred to us.)
I started looking for it when I realized it looks just like Allison’s wedding dress on Grace & Frankie - about which Brianna says, “Allison’s dress is very specific. It’s more like what a dead child was buried in in the 1800s.”
The Reynolda House Museum in Winston-Salem, NC has been hosting a fantastic exhibit of paintings and original artwork by J.C. Leyendecker. The detail in his paintings is just incredible, which you don’t really see in the magazine illustrations.

Hello Tumblies! I took the summer off from posting and may need to extend my sabbatical through the fall as well, but wanted to share this great hosiery ad from a 1953 Glamour that a friend gave me.
Happy blogversary to me and my Boxes of Paper! Thanks to everyone who's followed. I just got my office back from the kid who's been living in it, so more new vintage goodness soon!!
A surprise gift from a friend! Artist is Ruskin "Russ" Williams
I've been on an estate sale bender for the last few months, but now it's time to take a break. A lifetime of content for the blog! Coming soon.
