Thought I might post these here as well
The bottom one is a carriage harness on display at the Galerie des Carrosses in Versailles. There it's shown alongside one if the coronation coaches, which I would describe as an elaborately decorated chunk of gold drawn by six horses. I love the detail on the leatherwork and would love to see these harnesses in person one day. They're beautiful, in the "hang on is that what we're spending our countrys budget on?" sort of way.
If anyone has some interesting sources regarding historical tack (all varieties really, be it royal or cavalry or interesting traditions) let me know btw! I am always looking for more references
I've discovered that there's far more detailed pictures and descriptions of carriages and all things on wheels, and very little on the harnesses. Or maybe I'm not getting a good grade in research right now, who knows.
