Alain de Botton’s Paints Romantic Philosophical World in Her Book “On Love”
“Perhaps it is true that we do not really exist until there is someone there to see us existing, we cannot properly speak until there is someone who can understand what we are saying in essence, we are not wholly alive until we are loved.” ― Alain de Botton, On Love
Here’s something to get through, which left me wanting a whole lot more.
Alain de Botton is such a skillful literary scientist. She wrote about plenty of complex ideas and circumstances of relationships, mixing fiction, philosophy and creative writing to come up with such a thick, substantial form of incredible literary piece. It was a delightful experience to be exposed to the author’s prolific philosophical writing.Â
Would love to know your thoughts about this, or how you yourselves desire to get through it as well.
Whether it’s a romantic relationship, family relationship, friendship…love people with all of your heart but in doing so, remember Who your heart belongs to. Remember that when your heart is weary, weak, or tired, it is the fact that your heart belongs to God through your relationship with Jesus that will sustain you. ⠀ The people in our lives often mean well, but sometimes their actions can cause our hearts to grow weary. We can start to feel like we can never overcome the hurt because it’s just too much to bear. But when you find yourself feeling that way, remember the words of Jesus: ⠀ Take heart! I have overcome the world. - John 16:33 ⠀ So take heart today! The One who is ruler of all is the ruler over your heart too! Don’t let the brokenness of your heart take OVER your heart. Don’t let the brokenness in the hearts of the people around you take over your heart either. Don’t let someone’s lack of ability to commit to you or see your worth cause you to forget what you’re worth to God. Don’t let anyone just do what they want to your heart. Remember who your heart belongs to now that you know Jesus! Walk with your head high and your heart full knowing that there is nothing that can separate you from the One who holds your heart in His hands. ⠀ Written by @morganhnichols for #thedevoco
