They call it the calm before the storm.
I call it, the times when you think youโre ok,
Itโs just not as bad as it has been,
Or rather, as it could be.
And we can see the waves coming.
The wind, the rain, the waves.
They said we should evacuate,ย
But right now, the inevitable seems unreal.
Weโve survived worse than this,
Weโll risk not preparing,
Weโll risk people thinking itโs our own fault when we have flooded homes.
We are willing to take that chance,
We know nothing other than our past.ย
We donโt seem to realize the past is not the future.
We remember the times the storms were coming but passed us by.
We remember the times when the storm came, and we survived with barely a scratch.
We forget that a scratch can turn into a gaping trench.
We forget the future is not the past.
We know we should get out early,
But we donโt seem to care.ย
We donโt change our ways.
If weโre going to die in the end anyway,
Why should matter when the end is.ย
