HELLO ! have you thought about Van Gogh’s First Steps today ?
Here you go. This world is beautiful. Humans are beautiful. I love you
I got to create this illustration of my client and her girlfriend! So much fun to work on, I'm grateful to have been asked to create this for them.
A few slots are open for fantasy portrait commissions if you're interested in getting one!
So, religion, magic, and ritual are all in service of ordering chaos, turning the unpredictable into certainty right? I think that's good and fine if you need it. For a lot of people, the alternative is constant dread and anxiety. Problems arise when this ordering mechanism starts to bleed into how you expect others to act, and punishing or enforcing their behavior. I've been thinking about narrative as a tool of order as well. I think stories are inherently human because they have a calming effect on our psyche. Perhaps part of why some people's love for a story can sometimes turn into a religious-like fervor is that there is something in that story that keeps their existential dread of chaos at bay.
I don't think that's necessarily bad, but again, the problems arise when the self-soothing tool turns into a sword used to police others' beliefs and behavior.
"Apparition in the Forest" by Moritz von Schwind, 1823
Decorator Crabs are multiple species of crabs who use corals, sponges, urchins, anemones, sea fans, and other marine organisms as self-decoration. This (glamorous) camouflage allows them to blend in with their environments and avoid predators.
(Lesser known fact, it also gives them the self-confidence to pursue their dream careers as professional salsa dancers.)
Even better, they use tiny bristled hooks to attach marine life to their bodies– that’s right, these majestic bastards come with built-in velcro!
And that’s not all! some of these dapper fucks have learned to use camouflage as weaponry, draping themselves in glamorous green boas toxic foul-tasting seaweeds, or arming themselves with stylish anemones, urchins and even jellyfish that give predators a nasty ZAP! Some species have even figured out how to hunt this way.
in conclusion, this delightful little dandy is wearing a sea sponge as a sombrero!
Mermaids! This was really fun to work on, I love all the little creatures that live on tidepool rocks.
Happy MerMay!

Is it weird to make art of your OC when your OC is...yourself? Kinda?
Idk, but this is my knight character Genevieve being a bitch per usual.
(The irony of me making my own costumes was intentional lol)
And so what if I did make art of my friends' characters too
