Frank Zappa’s reluctant 1979 Sheik Yerbouti photoshoot by Lynn Goldsmith!

Frank’s original idea for the Sheik Yerbouti album was much different from the one we know today, Lynn Goldsmith talks about it in an magazine article by Joanna Pitman saying, "He wanted to look like a Hollywood film director with a megaphone, a girl prop, etc. Frank was more comfortable being a funny man rather than a handsome man, but I thought he was very handsome and I wanted other people to see that, too. The album was a play on disco sounds, so I thought he could call it Sheik Yer Bootie, and I could make him look as handsome as a sheik." (Lynn Goldsmith)

After doing the shoot that Frank originally wanted, Goldsmith eventually brought the headdress out which was actually given to her by Patti Smith. Frank originally refused to put it on, but after some convincing, he finally gave in. Because of that second shoot, the sheik version is what we ended up with.
