That’s really stupid. Anything taken out of contest makes no sense at all. Let alone a text written thousands of years ago. Idek what point this “experiment” is trying to prove?? The Bible and the Quran are filled with violent stories? They preach violence? The Bible is more violent than the Quran?

Both the Quran and the Bible contain very similar teachings and are more alike than people think.

The point is to make people realise that, just as modern-day Christians, for the most part, do not agree with some of the barbaric parts of the Bible, modern-day Muslims, for the most part, do not agree with some of the barbaric parts of the Qur’an. It isn’t stupid at all, and it’s not taken out of context; what they’re actually doing is showing people how little they understand about both Islam (due to the fact that they are completely convinced that that is from the Qur’an) and their own faith (Christianity), and how the way those religions are portrayed in the media and in society (Christianity = “peaceful”, Islam = “savage and barbaric” (not my opinions at all, by the way)) has affected the view they have of them (claiming ”the Bible is a lot more peaceful”, when they’re being read a Bible quote, for example). The point is to make these people think about the way in which they judge Islam, and to make them reconsider their views of the Islamic faith, and the wider Muslim population.

In no part of the experiment do they try to assert that one is ‘more violent’ than the other, or that either preaches violence; instead, they are showing the participants that we cherry-pick parts of the scripture to suit our own agenda, thus portraying the Bible as being all “love thy neighbour” and the Qur’an as being all “kill all non-Muslims”, when actually neither scripture is inherently one way or the other - it is simply our perception that is.

The experiment aims to use people’s ignorance to help them to overcome their prejudgements of things they know nothing about, in this case, the Islamic faith. And it does that very well
