Her gaze never left him as he found piece after piece of wood and impaled himself upon it. She’d be lying if seeing him trying so desperately to affect her didn’t stroke her ego a little bit. There he was, Sveinn the Severe, the man she had loved so long ago, doing his utmost to salvage the remaining scrap of her humanity. He was trying so hard that had he been a normal vampire he would have been dead ten times over already. But that was all it did to her, was flatter her. She felt no remorse, no fear, no desire to do what he wanted. He couldn’t die, it was plain and simple. She walked a lazy half circle until she was standing behind his kneeling form. Her hands rested lightly on his shoulders as she bent to whisper in his ear. “They are on, Sveinn. I never turn them off. I simply don’t care anymore.” To emphasize her point, she dug her fingers into the flesh of his shoulders until the tips had physically sunken into him.
