Elven ears flushed red upon hearing the appealing bell-like laughter emitting from the Queen. He really should have kept that thought in the dark, but his mind was sometimes impulsive. How embarrassing was this?! Though her laugh had given away her position. Where Eragon was sometimes reckless and impulsive, Arya was the opposite. Lips curled into a wry grin.
( it’s not funny! you weren’t– )
Flustered were his thoughts now as he looked upon the ground. No more did he get mad at something like someone laughing at him, he had sense to laugh with. He couldn’t help but let out a small chuckle at seeing her amused. Hearing her laugh he did picture her smiling that never did fail to brighten his mood.
Eragon did have much to learn…when it came to Arya. He may see her, but there were will still things he didn’t know about her nor was he so disrespectful as to just outright ask. She’d tell him when she saw fit. His mind went back to the story at hand, the grin never fading from his face. The Rider rolled his eyes at sensing her amusement and went on with his tale.
( well if not for Saphira, i would have been the giant slugs meal! turns out he ended up as ours. )
Much closer this time, the dance was coming to an end. His smile seemed to widen, brightening his alabaster fair skin. Eragon then turned, circling the tree he had his back to and it was wide enough to hide at least two people for it was not like any other. He could feel the magic flowing within it as well as the very earth he walked on. Magic was everywhere as Oromis taught him.
The sound of her voice ringing from behind stopped him in his tracks. Her thought had made him softly laugh. Turning around his eyes instantly made contact with hers. He feigned a hurt expression for a few seconds at her comment, walking closer.
‘ i see where your loyalties lay, my Lady, ’ came his teasing choice of words. He didn’t deny it though for he knew Saphira much wiser than he. Arya just the same as well. As he looked upon the Queen, she never did cease to amaze him.
Smile upon his face did he bow to her; fingertips pressed to his lips before twirling his wrist to touch his sternum. Eragon was still aware he was talking not just to a very close friend, but to the Queen herself.
“A wise choice on my part if I do say.”
Nor would it be the first time the Queen had sided with the dragon over him. And she doubted it would be the last. It was a smile, one that he could now see that curved the edges of her lips. She gave a slight dip of her head before she copies his motion, fingertips to her lips before a twirl of her wrist to her sternum.
Friend or not, he was still someone to be respected. He was still a Dragon Rider, Shur'tugal, a grand title all on it’s own. No matter if it was a title they now shared.
“But it is always a relief to see you return in one piece.”
And though she was glad to see him, there was a small voice in the back of her mind that asked the question of why he was here. He was gone for months without a word, only to show up again. If she were anyone else, if he was not the dear friend that he was, some might find it odd.
And she knew she couldn’t hold her tongue on the matter forever. But she could at least ignore it for the time being. “You must be tired,” she replied. She may have been a Queen, but she also played the role of hostess. And he an honored guest. “Allow me to at least offer food and rest,” with him she was never sure if he would accept.
She took a step forward, closing some of the distance. “Unless of course you have business here other than seeking out my company?” She rose a fine brow as she looked to him.
{ You have been missed Eragon. }
Words thought rather than spoken, accompanied with the fondness that words spoken could never get just right.
