Andrew stared down at the phone in his hand, his fingers trembling at the words. ‘Check your closet.’ He thought about calling the police but knew better, he knew what happened when you tried to interfere with what the Director had planned for you, so he rushed out of class, sprinting back to his dorm. What had they done? Had they destroyed his PS4? His PC? Shaved his dog? He didn’t know but he was terrified to find out. He unlocked the door to his room quickly, moving inside and tossing his backpack onto his bed, his eyes fixed on the closet door. Tentatively he reached forward with still shaking hands, his finger wrapping around the doorknob and slowly turning it. He took a deep breath before pulling it open and at the sight inside his heart dropped, Piper, the girl he’d been in love with since the 4th grade hung there from the ceiling, her throat slit and her eyes lifeless. He backed away, tears filling his eyes and sob escaping his throat. He pulled out his phone quickly punchin in 911 and getting them on the way before moving back into the closet, attempting to take the girl down. After a few minutes he finally did so, laying her on the floor gently, sobbing as he stared down at her. “I’m sorry Pip. I love you so much.” he cried, stroking her hair gently with shakey fingers. “We should have just went home, we never should have stayed, you were right. I’m so so sorry.”
After that everything was a blur, the police arrived soon after and Andrew just zoned out a hollow feeling in his chest as they carried her away. Hours later he sat in his room on the edge of the bed, just staring at the floor, still covered in his recently deceased girlfriends blood. He’d been attacked before but this hurt way worse, cut him way deeper than the Director had with the knife. He was broken. Between his attack, what was happening with Aurora and now this he just felt empty. He wished it were him, Piper had so much to live for and he was just a loser with barely any friends that sat around and played videogames all day. It was his fault for surviving and he knew it.
