The reality of Black life is America has been well hidden and fictionalized for centuries. You ask... how did we get here? How did The Orange Man & his insurrectionidts could takeover of the democratic system in America? We allowed it to happen by our pretendence, our negligence and our fears.
We pretended that America accepted us and wanted us to be apart of that ever elusive "American Dream" because.... All we had to do was to get a good, extremely expensive education, find and maintain a good job, move out of the ghetto (created by systematic racism), and wear the latest over-priced fashions that filled their bank accounts. In our make-believe lives in America, we fell asleep, rocked in the arms of our oppressors.
Following the assassinations of our black leaders... Malcolm X, MLK JR., & Medgar Evers... We conveniently went to sleep and lived in the dream that we craved and wanted so badly. We lived with continous lava of lies from white supremacists who never stopped telling the world that we are subhuman, ignorant, & criminals since the beginning of slavery. That lie has been cultivated and spread by white Americans for generations.
Our fears has stopped us from seeking what we deserve. By compromising our lives, standards, and beliefs to white America, we have denied our true selves by trying to fit into a history and a legacy where we do not belong. I remember marching with Martin L King, shouting "We shall overcome!" Marching with Stokey Carmichael, Yelling until I was blue in the face... "Black Power!" What did we do when Dr. King was murdered? We fell asleep. We did not continue the fight. We allowed the system to feed us sleeping pills of compromise and concession... To enter a state of "False Unity." We believed them when they said, "We are so sorry." All the while systemic racism continued to grow and flourish.
So, here we are today. Biden & Harris are in the White House... And YES, we did that! BUT!!! The KKK has boldly taken off their white hoods and robes while calling themselves a variety of names. They are still The CLAN! ...Our sworn enemies. They are killing us hourly in and out of blue uniforms. What are we to do now?
We must do as Dr. Sadiki Che Baye advises in his upcoming book, "IT SEEMS TO ME..." To accept the blessings of Our Creator as the first human on earth and be the caretakers of this planet as HE ordained. THAT process must begin with ownship of our magnicicent history and our roles as Warriors for our people and the planet. As Warriors, we must never again stop fighting for JUSTICE & EQUALITY. We must fight to make certain that our people are safe whenever they leave our homes to go to school, to play, to work or to worship. We must make certain that this country pays us cash money for the brutal, stolen & misuse of our ancestors' labor. We must write letters, make phone calls, demonstrate, and speak out often to all our family, friends & contacts. Remember... Presidential orders are temporary.... We need LEGISLATION AND LAWS on the books to insure REAL change!
