When the Jeep parked in front of your house, you shouted at Chris to leave and let you be alone while you hobbled as quickly as you could to the porch. Upon entering the house, you slammed the door shut behind you and leaned against it while grabbing the hockey stick your father used to play with every weekend. Your mother hated that he left it lying by the entrance and always scolded him for it; right now, you were grateful he hadn’t listened those times.
You tightened your grip on the stick and began to crawl around the house with your back against the wall, turning on all the lights as you entered the rooms. Once the ground floor was clear, you did the same on the second floor, and when it was equally empty, you locked your door, placed a chair under the doorknob, and dragged your largest piece of furniture in front of the window, completely covering it. You spent the rest of the night sitting in a corner and managed to rest only when you heard your parents’ voices.
You were on your fifth day when you finally reached your breaking point. You had endured the incessant pain in your arms and head, but your back simply couldn’t bear your weight for another second. Your body was still full of foam when you wrapped yourself in a towel and called Sue Clearwater, asking her to please come to your house with her medical supplies. Sue was a specialized nurse, and many people in the reservation called her when there was a minor accident, as her expertise was in demand. You told her it was urgent because you knew otherwise she wouldn’t come to see you.
The people in the reservation were quite... gossipy. Whatever happened there spread like wildfire and was on everyone’s lips for months, so the breakup between Leah and Sam a few years ago kept everyone on edge for several months. It was a spark that only reignited when the town began to notice that Leah’s very own cousin, Emily, was meeting Sam in the woods almost every day. You remember how your parents talked about it even at the market with people they knew, how everyone told Sue how "sorry" they were.
After that incident, most of the calls to her were for minor injuries, accompanied by awkward questions about her daughter’s state and her niece’s terrible attitude, so she had given up on the idea of helping. She did so at a good time, as just a week later, Emily and Sam's relationship became official.
“I hate men” Umma declared holding her head.
Embry, Quil, Umma and you were in the library preparing an essay for history, when your classmate suddenly spoke.
“What are you talking about?” you asked distractedly.
“About Emily and Sam, silly” Quil replied, taking the blue pen from your hand that you were working with. He wasn’t doing anything important, really; he was just drawing shapes in one of the books.
Embry, who was picking up some books from a shelf, jumped next to you and whispered in your ear “The new gossip in town, aren’t you paying attention?”
You snatched the books from his hands while he smiled from ear to ear; annoying you was his favorite hobby, and any reaction you gave simply fueled him “I only pay attention to things that concern me; what strangers do in their private lives doesn’t interest me”
Embry took a chair from another table and sat next to you. He stared at you for a few seconds when suddenly touched your forehead with his index finger “You’re going to wrinkle” he said, pointing at your furrowed brow.
You swatted his hand away and sat up straighter, crossing your arms in front of you “Can you explain what their relationship has to do with your hatred?” you asked your classmate.
“Because everyone can leave you for someone else” she emphasized, pointing at your friends. “Like Sam, leaving his girlfriend for his girlfriend's COUSIN” the last part was a loud whisper, accompanied by a horrified expression directed at the boys.
“Don’t look at me; if the girl is hot, it’s reason enough” Quil commented, still focused on whatever he was writing.
“You're disgusting” you and Umma said at the same time, both throwing erasers at him. You could hear the other people in the library asking for silence over the laughter of your friends at your table.
A knock on the door pulled you from your thoughts. You turned your neck so quickly it cracked, and you swiftly grabbed the hockey stick that was on the toilet, still carrying it with you. A stupid move considering that if someone were going to attack you, they wouldn't knock on the door.
"Who is it?" you asked.
"Sue, darling. Can I come in?" Her voice made you feel at ease, and after putting the stick back in its place, you let her in.
When Sue entered, she scolded you for not having called her earlier, for being so underdressed in the bathroom with the skylight open, and for leaving the front door key in a flowerpot on the porch. Then she handed you a robe she had taken from your closet and guided you to your bed.
"Alright, what's my diagnosis?" you asked with humor in your voice, receiving a disapproving look in return.
"You're fine, darling. You were very lucky not to have broken any ribs or suffered a lumbar pinching with everything you've been doing since the day of the hit until today" she said while jotting something down on a paper you couldn't see. "But you pushed your body beyond its limits, and that's why you're in so much pain. So from now on, you'll be in bed for several days, and if you want, I can come help you on the days your parents can't be here" She finished speaking and placed the paper on your nightstand, her hand lingering there for a few seconds until she spoke again, this time more quietly than before "You can always... call Embry, I'm sure he—"
You interrupted her with clear disdain in your voice "I'm sorry for interrupting you, Sue, but you should know that I’ll be fine. I have someone to call anyway"
Days had gone by without thinking about Embry, and this wasn’t exactly the best time to bring him to mind. Ever since you saw him that day at the beach, you hadn’t been able to shake the immense guilt you felt over your feelings for him, considering your stable but deceitful relationship with Chris.
Sue let out a sigh as she stroked your arm "Alright... I’ll leave you the things to keep in mind on the paper, and I’ll talk to your mother later" She got up and grabbed her bag, giving you a smile. You returned it until it slowly faded, overshadowed by the one thought that filled your mind.
Summary: You have a terrible cold but you keep sinking in your work. Later Embry arrives from patrol and handles the situation himself.

It had started quietly; a little cough here and there, accompanied by a slight headache. It was common living in such a cold place, and especially with the temperature variations with the ones you lived with. Because as soon as you fell asleep, Embry gently wrapped his arms around your waist, sticking to your back with his face hidden in your neck. It was impossible not to notice this when you woke up in the morning feeling that you had a heater behind you, so you started sleeping with a thinner blanket, keeping the rest in your closet. You had never mentioned this to him, even after several nights waking you up chattering in the cold, forcing you to get up and grab more blankets. You were catching a cold.
But two days later you started with a sore throat and mild congestion. That afternoon you were coming out of the bathroom after a refreshing shower when you saw Embry hanging up the phone and putting on his slippers.
He approached you and kissed you on the forehead "Sam told you to change places?" You asked, because it was very common for them to relay each other from time to time.
"No, I called Emily and she said she has some tea for the pain that will make you feel better, make sure you rest and I'll make dinner when I get back" he yelled as he walked away from you, ignoring your lies that you were getting better.

Embry did everything for you; he cleaned, washed, did the shopping and cooked. Since you became his imprint, he lived for you and always tried to save you as much work as possible, knowing that you only rested after finishing everything you had pending. He didn't like that you overloaded yourself with work and home things, so he did everything despite your annoyance, just to give you more free time (which you invested in your work).
Just a few days after he brought the thyme tea Emily had given him, you had taken a significant turn for the worse. When Embry got up at dawn to take his patrol shift with Quil, you pretended to be asleep. Knowing him, he would have stayed with you to take care of you, preventing you from doing your homework.
Just an hour later you still couldn't sleep because of the intermittent sneezing, so you got up and cleaned up a bit in your bathroom before grabbing your laptop and continuing with your work. You had next to you a mountain of disposable paper with which you blew your nose and a blanket that you took off and put on every so often, because both the cold and the heat came and went.
You knew that sometimes you gave your work more than you should, more than your body and mind allowed you, but this was your responsibility, something that you had to do day after day and show that you were capable enough to achieve it. and get better. People get sick worse and keep working, why would you stop for a simple cold?

You were in that hunched position for what seemed like hours until you heard the distinctive noise of the door opening; Embry used to tap it against all every time he came back from patrolling. So much so that he put up a doorstop, but it was still making a lot of noise.
He froze as soon as he saw you there, sitting at the kitchen table with a red nose, teary eyes, and dry lips.
"What are you doing?" He ask hanging the keys by the door
"You look like-"
"Do I look like?" You asked something defensively, you really didn't want to deal with the overprotective Embry now.
"Stunning like every day, but a bit tired" he said sitting next to you and placing the back of his hand on your forehead "You have a fever, how about you lie down for a while?"
You took a handkerchief while you blew your nose again "I can't sleep, I have things to do" you answered with a nasal voice.
Embry chuckled as he slowly moved the laptop away from you "I never said sleep darling, I said lay down" you could hear the tap of the keys that he press while he saved what you were doing during the last hours.
Your throat hurt so much that you blurted out just three words to him before you started coughing hard, feeling Embry's hands rubbing your back. He left a kiss on your head while he led to the couch, arranging the cushions so that your back was not against the wood of the armrest "How about you take a very little nap while I prepare dinner?"
You frowned at him "I have many things to do, my work is not finished yet and it won't do itself, it's wasted time"

He sighed and ran his hands nervously up her thighs before answer "Honey, you're pushing yourself and that's not good" he said softly.
You didn't answer anything, playing with the thread that came out of one of the green cushions.
After a few seconds avoiding talking to him, you felt Embry grab your chin, raising your head and forcing you to keep his gaze "You must understand that all your years of effort will not be wasted for a well-deserved night's rest, okay?"
You nodded as you took more paper, your tears about to escape. You weren't used to people taking so much weight off of you and you were really exhausted, so you decided to stop fighting and rest.

Embry woke you up later and you both ate soup he made himself, with ice cream for dessert, as he said it was great for your sore throat. And then, while you were lying down enjoying your favorite flavor of ice cream, Embry was next to you, writing on your laptop what you dictated and that you hadn't quite finished
He would lie on his side of the bed and slowly remove a bit of the blanket from your grasp, just enough so that there is no space between your sleeping form and him. Allowing himself to feel your skin under his fingertips. It's like that, he needs to feel you that way or he won't sleep.
Paul:
He's more practical, agile and strong, so he'll just lift you up a bit and then whoop, the blanket is released. Then he picks you up again to place you on his chest, because he is agile and strong but it did not occur to him that he could have done that and take the blanket off you at the same time.
Quil:
He leaves the whole blanket for you, tucking you in just in case you're cold, and he'd go get another one, lying next to you with his right hand making shapes over your sleeping form.
Seth:
He just wouldn't care, he would lie down in front of you waiting for you to eventually stir in your sleep and wrap your arms around him. He knows that it is not worth taking something that you were going to take from him again.
Sam (and Emily):
Both Sam and Emily were used to you leaving them both without a blanket at night, only it was worse for Emily, who had a normal temperature. So she would take a different blanket and on the days when she knew her partner was going on patrol, she would leave a separate blanket next to the bed for him to take when he went to sleep, you in the middle of both.

<Chapter 6 | Chapter 8>
You went around the back of some stands, following a straight path. The sounds of the fair sounded farther away and the sky seemed to darken more quickly.
You were walking for several minutes until you ended up in a dead end, next to an apparently abandoned gray building, getting exasperated for not having found anything. You got out of your boyfriend's sight and on top of that you weren't coherent enough to let him know that you were going to do it, surely making him worry due to your stupid actions.
You looked at your surroundings for a few more seconds and then turned around with a sigh. You at least tried to turn around, because you didn't even get to complete it when you felt hands on your left arm throw you back hard, your back colliding with a large dumpster.
"He told us about this once, and didn't think I would be so lucky" said a seductive voice, a feminine voice.
You moaned loudly as you pushed the huge garbage bags away from you, the pain already beginning to be unbearable.
"He said it was rare to find it" the mysterious woman spoke again, this time much closer than before.
You sat down after making a great effort and when you saw where the voice came from, a great terror invaded your body. It was indeed a woman, the one you saw at the fair; she had long blonde hair and was wearing a beautiful knee length blue dress of hers. She seemed quite normal, until you notice her pale face and glowing red eyes, companied by her happy but ghoulish smile.
"But when I smelled you, my god your scent is…" she sniffed the air like she was a dog tracking something through the woods "very appetizing" her smile widened and she started running towards you.
You tried to let out a scream that got stuck in your throat when some kind of giant wolf appeared out of nowhere from behind you and pounced on the red-eyed woman.
Ignoring the mounting pain in your back, you knelt down, watching in astonishment as they threw each other to the ground. Despite the fact that the woman was very busy with the fight, she could not take her eyes off of you, which seemed to annoy the animal more, which functioned as an effective protective wall between her and you. And not long after, another wolf came out from behind you again to join the fierce fight.
You knew you should get up and get as far away from the commotion as possible, but you could take your eyes off what was happening in front of you. You did not understand anything, it was impossible for you to find coherence in the strange situation. There were two wolves who were giving their all, but the woman seemed to have the same strength as them, despite having a short height and skinny body, nothing made sense.
But your survival instincts kicked in when you saw them start to tear her to pieces. You didn't know anything about mutilation of the human body, but the way its parts came off of it didn't seem to have anything human about it. Nor the sounds that parts of her made when they hit the ground.
You stood up and started running back to the fair, leaving the grunts behind to focus only on your breathing and the sound of your footsteps hitting the sidewalk. A few minutes ago you were creating incredible memories with a wonderful person and now you had just witnessed an extremely strong woman being torn apart by two big wolves, you must be hallucinating.

When you finally arrived at the fair you looked around frantically, the few people around you raised an eyebrow at your erratic state, taking their children away from you. You couldn't stay focused on one thing while looking for something or someone you couldn't remember at the moment, when suddenly you felt hands on your arms and you jumped away, stumbling and falling to the ground on your back, increasing your pain. You lifted your head and there was Christopher, both hands held up next to him as if he was trying to calm an animal.
"Hey, okay, you're okay" he said softly, bending down to your height "Will you let me help you up? So we can go?" His eyes didn't leave yours and when you extended your trembling hands towards him, he took them with the greatest delicacy. He help you up and put his arm around your waist, his right hand caressing your shoulder.
"Give us space please, step aside" he yelled at those people who got in the way of you, releasing his hand from your shoulder for a moment to jerk them away.
The drive to the Jeep felt extremely long and you don't even remember how it happened, but you went from walking through the parking lot to sitting in the passenger seat; seat belt on, window down and a bottle of water in your hands"
"-but just try to focus on the sound when you press it and when you're ready to talk, I'll listen." Chris sounded strange, like underwater, but clear enough to understand the last words of the sentence. Trying to squeeze the bottle you realized that your hands were numb, you felt a terrible tingling sensation that seemed to not want to leave your body. You were like this for a few more minutes until you decided to force yourself to sleep, hoping that when you woke up everything was a lie.

Chapter 1 | Chapter 3>
"Bella still the same, what about you? Are you feeling better?" You asked Embry, lately he had been feeling very strange; He told you that he had hit a sudden growth spurt that his mother always made him notice, spells of very high fever and drastic mood swings, which was completely unnatural for him. It was for those reasons that he wouldn't let you go see him. He forbade you to get close to him in that state, so you only kept in touch via calls.
"Better actually, today mom will take the afternoon and evening shift, so I'll stay all day watching those ridiculous movies that you like"
You had your mouth full of food, but that didn't stop you from replying "Hey! Don't you dare call the Star Wars movies ridiculous, unless you want me to dump you, because in which case you do a good job"
You had forced Embry to watch all the Star Wars movies one weekend when you were staying at his house. He didn't look particularly bored with them, just that it was a no-brainer that he'd rather spend his time on something more interesting; spending the whole night pestering you with neck kisses that soon turned into something else, causing both of you to leave the subject of movies for the following weekend.
You heard Embry's shrill laugh on the other end of the line. "Okay, sorry, I'll stop calling your beloved Jedi movies ridiculous."
"Okay, so you're still in a relationship. HEY! You still haven't told me what you plan to do for your birthday" he had to move the phone away from his ear when he heard your little accusatory cry.
His birthday was coming up soon and you were very excited about the event. You had planned the gift of him weeks in advance and you were already very anxious to give it to him.
"Just a little celebration with Jake, Quil and you, of course, here at home"
"Great, I'll give you my gift and you'll love it" you affirmed with a smile.
There was a rattle across the line as if he was setting something up "If it has to do with food; hand it over to me when Quil's not around, we both know he'll steal everything" You guys laughed at that, Quil always eat all the boys food, and you didn't know if their appetite was due to gluttony or the simple desire to annoy their friends.
You were sitting at the kitchen table with your eyes on the empty bowl before you, when your father peeked through the door and waved for you to go to the living room, you nodded towards him and quickly he walked away "Honey… I have to go now" you said with a little twinge of guilt.
"Will you call me tomorrow?" he asked.
"Of course I do" you said "I call you practically every day"
He laughed "Okay, bye love"
"Goodbye"
You ended the call and walked to the room where your father was waiting for you on the couch. You sat softly next to his as you watched him with his elbows resting on his knees, supporting his chin.
These past few months he had been so tired from work and Bella's depressive state that when he found a little moment of rest at night, he was pulled out of it by your sister's screams. He was immersed in a state of excessive and constant worry, depriving him of sleep and other basic necessities during the day.
Your father snapped his fingers as he sat up straighter. "I'll tell Bella to go back to Jacksonville," he snapped, and despite saying it as a statement, his face was more of a question.
"I don't think she wants to do it dad" you said softly. Bella really hoped that Edward or some other Cullen would come back, if she went with your mother there was no way any of them would go looking for her there.
"It's just that… He won't come back, and I don't know what to do anymore" he ran his hands roughly over his face, his dark circles and disheveled hair were a clear indication of the exhaustion, not only mental but also physical that he was going through "Your sister is not improving and she is absorbing you"
"Dad, she's not abs-" you tried to speak but were cut off by him.
"She does it" all his body language changed from him; He sat up facing you, his fists clenched, intense eye contact, a frown and a slight rise in his voice, "You stopped dating everyone you knew, your grades dropped because you focused on Bella and you make the time to shower her when she hasn't showered for days. You just molded your life around hers."
You didn't know what to say, it was completely true but you hadn't even realized that until your father marked it. You made an effort to satisfy Bella in everything and especially in those things that she couldn't do for herself; You didn't want to upset her or do something to add to all the pain she was feeling, even at your own expense.
Your father seemed to realize that it was a bit harsh, so he walked over to you and put his arm around your shoulders "I'm sorry about that… but this is getting too much for everyone, your mother will know how to handle this situation better"
You rested your head on his shoulder "I'll support you in any decision dad, but I honestly think it will get better here and not in Jacksonville. Give her a little more time, let her see for herself that Edward won't be back" your father took your hand "Tell her anyway, listen to what she has to tell you"

You heard Bella's truck pull up so you hurried down to meet her. When you caught up with her, she stopped you and handed over the keys to her truck.
You took them in your hand with a frown. "Umm, do you want me to park your truck?"
"I'm going shopping with Jessica, I told her to pick me up so you can take the truck and see Embry" Bella tried to smile at you.
"Bella…are you sure? Not really-" she cut you off.
"Go, I'll be fine"
"But…you hate shopping." You made a face at her.
"I'll be fine, I'll buy you some things too" You got so excited that you rushed over to Bella to hug her.
"I love you so much Bella" you kissed her forehead, before running upstairs to put everything you'd need in your bag.
When you got out, you asked your father for permission and ran to the truck as soon as he said yes, throwing the things on the passenger seat. After a long drive, you parked outside Embry's house and grabbed your things before heading out, watching the living room lights on from outside.
The door to his house opened and there he was, looking surprised even as he ran to hug you; lifting you off the ground and spinning with you in his arms.
"What are you doing here?" He asked with his face buried in your neck.
"Bella told me to come see you, she handed me her truck and everything, she said she would be fine for today"
Embry broke away from your embrace and placed both hands on your face. You closed your eyes as you absorbed the sensation of his touch and the scent of wood from him. You had begun to forget these little details about him, things so insignificant that made you feel calm, happy. You didn't want to forget those things anymore.
When you opened your eyes and met his soft gaze, feelings of fear, uncertainty, and anger hit you. With Embry you felt an immense joy that you had set aside due to decisions of others, responsibilities that were not yours… But you feared that you had given your whole heart to Embry just as your sister did with Edward, you feared to share all the good and bad things about you with him, only to be abandoned afterwards. But you also didn't want to deprive yourself of the love he had for you, so you just let all your doubts go.
And that became your favorite day; the scent of him, the way he held you protectively even if there were no dangers around, the sound of his heart as you rested your head on his chest, his lips on yours, his hands on your waist That night they told each other that they loved each other for the first time.
That night, your favorite… was the last you would have in a long time.

Chapter 2>>
The last few months had been... devastating, literally. Edward Cullen, your brother-in-law (ex-brother-in-law now), had left Bella a day after her birthday with the excuse that the others in Forks were beginning to notice something strange about his appearance, but you knew that it was actually his fear of that something bad would happen to her because of the thing with Jasper. You understood, but it wasn't an excuse for the terrible way he left her; Alone in the woods just a few hours after dusk.
Since he and his family left, your home was plunged into a state of agony and helplessness that continued for months. Just a few weeks after Bella went into a deep depression, she climbed into your bed and hugged you to sleep. Since then she would spend every night with you, only they became completely restless; she would wake up screaming and crying only to go back to sleep after a few hours. It was a sick cycle that none of you seemed to be able to break free of.
In addition, since your sister entered that state, Embry called you every night to find out about any progress, but lately the calls have been increasing; since it had been an exact week in which your meetings were reduced by the care that you should give to Bella. Your relationship with him was so healthy that every time you apologized for this physical distance between the two of you, Embry assured you that he understood that Bella needed you and the importance you attached to being there for her.
“I love all of you; to see the magnificent sparkle in your eyes when a deer walks outside my house, the happiness you have when they let you get close to them and to hear the emotion in your voice every time you tell me your favorite stories.You must understand that having you in my arms is a privilege that I treasure every day of my life...
That we are apart will never make my love for you fade away” he assured you the first time you told him you were sorry.
It is for that reason that you added something else to your routine; At night, when you no longer had to worry about Bella eating and when you were sure that she was in a deep sleep, you thought about him and specifically about the first time you two met.
You had finished getting ready in your room to go to La Push beach. It turns out that some residents of the reservation were going to have a party there and Jacob, who was Bella's best friend, had invited you.
It took you a while to convince Bella to accept, because she got used to spending the whole week with the Cullens, so any change in her itinerary that didn't include them was very strange to her. But anyway, she was already waiting for you in her old but beloved truck, so you hurried to get out of it so as not to make her wait.
When you got to the living room, you saw your father sitting on the old sofa with a beer in hand and a pizza in front of him, while watching a football game. He stopped as soon as he saw you and reached for something next to him, yelling your name "Here" he said to you as he extended the object towards you.
It took you a very short time to realize what it was "Dad, really?" You asked with your eyes rolling as you looked at the small black pepper spray in his hand.
Your father shrugged "Your sister has one and you should too" He had gotten Bella one a few days ago, after learning that she was invited to the Cullens' constant walks in the woods. He wasn't happy about it at all, but having your sister bring the gas took some of his worry off his mind.
His look told you that you were not going to cross the door without the little artifact in your possession, so you snatched it from his hand to see a triumphant smile on your father's face "It would be fun to use it on some idiot" you commented raising both eyebrows, Your father laughed and walked you to the door to see you run to where Bella was waiting for you.
The ride to La Push was smooth and you were practically glued to your sister, sitting next to her singing and waving your arms to the tunes that were playing on the radio. Bella would have shut anyone else up, but she was used to the vibrant personality you had, which was basically a copy of your mother's personality.
When the van finally came to a stop, you saw a bunch of people already set up on the beach, all lit up by some nicely decorated lights and a big bonfire in the center.
You linked your arm through Bella's going down, watching Jacob run towards you. He had a big smile plastered on his face and when he finally stood in front of you, you were able to see the sparkle in his eye, the one your mom always pointed out in the romantic movies she made you watch when you were kids.
"Guys, I didn't think you would come" said Jacob.
Bella nodded at him as she tucked her hair behind her ear. "Sorry we're late," she said simply. Your beloved sister, a girl of few words. Despite knowing her all your life, you didn't know if her lack of words was because she was a simple girl, shy or not wanting to have a conversation at all.
Jacob just shrugged as he led you two to the campfire. You could hear them both talking, but decided to tune out her conversation and focus your attention on the stars, trying to find some of the more familiar constellations your mother used to read about. But they were just simple stars, scattered across the sky without any form, like ordinary disordered dots.
When you refocused on the here and now, you were standing next to some guys sitting on some logs. "This is Embry and Quil, my friends," Jacob said as he pointed to each one.
Quil stood up quickly and extended his hand towards you, using a seductive sort of voice as he introduced himself and acting flirtatious. Embry introduced himself from where he was and gave them both a soft smile.
You and your sister joined them, chatting and drinking the soda Jake had. After a while your eyes met Embry's, causing him to look away as he pretended to be interested in whatever he had planted his sights on. And even after that, his eyes kept looking for you.

Not long after arriving, Bella had disappeared with Jacob, so you were left with her two best friends, laughing at Quil's not-so-funny jokes. Before it was too late, you plucked up your courage and blurted out that you wanted a drink, but before Quil could respond, you turned to where Embry was sitting.
"Embry, I don't know where the drinks are, would you mind to show me?" you asked tilting your head a little to the side. His brows rose greatly, looking very surprised that you had even asked him.
Embry started to stutter a response until he looked over your shoulder (probably at Quil) and nodded confidently as he flashed you a smile and awkwardly stood up, you going by his side.
On the way you surreptitiously analyzed it under the dim light; He was much taller than you and had an upright posture, although you noticed that he slouched at times as if it wasn't right to take up so much space. His long hair was loose behind his ears and his hands were inside his front pockets.
By the time you reached a table laden with drinks and red glasses, the noise was already quieter, so you decided to strike up a conversation "Are you having fun?"
He looked at you giving you a half smile "Um, yeah, what about you?"
"Fine, having fun. You study with Jacob, right?"
"Yeah, do you want a beer or a soda?" He asked, rolling up his jacket sleeves and reaching for two glasses, letting you see how the veins in his arm stood out.
"Soda, please" you coughed.
Embry nodded as he served the drinks "Getting back on topic; yes, I go to school with Jake and Quil, here on the reservation, luckily we share most of the classes. Is this your first time here?" He handed you your soda while he drank his.
"Not really, I've been to Jacob's house a couple of times when I was a kid, a few restaurants with my dad and here" she pointed around "although I would say the beach is my favorite part"
Embry smiled at your comment and you couldn't help but notice how really cute he was. He had soft brown eyes, a sharp jawline and when he smiled his cheekbones stood out. His hair was well styled and seemed very soft, he definitely didn't have the frizz you woke up with every morning.
He moved closer to you, abruptly interrupting your train of thought "If you want..." he looked at the drink he was holding nervously in his hands before turning his gaze back to yours "I could show you other parts of the reserve, there are places that they're worth it" he cleared his throat nervously, he seemed really unsure about the proposal.
You tried to bite your lip in an attempt to prevent the smile that grew on your face, but it was hard to contain it. "I'd love to…" you whispered.

Seattle was incredible. Considering that you had spent your entire life in La Push, Seattle was magnificent in your eyes. Chris was right and Pike Place Market had been the most interesting place for you; you bought a lot of beautiful crafts at very affordable prices along with several books that you couldn't find in Forks. And the Big Wheel was now your favorite attraction, Christopher waited until Friday night to take you there, claiming it would be a "wonderful" sight and even though you had complained about it countless times, you proved him right by being there.
When you finally put aside your distrust of the attraction, you were able to delight in the thousands of stars shining above you, the beautiful glow of the city and how the lights of the Big Wheel reflected perfectly in the water next to the dock. Chris laughed at you every time you looked at him in amazement, looking at you in a unique way with his green eyes.
But not everything was so happy, the days were also very strange. You did not stop feeling different gazes on you, some of them made you feel a strong headache, as if the person who was looking at you was full of hostility. While other looks produced great comfort in you, although it was still intimidating. Every time Chris asked you if something was wrong, you just told him it was nerves from being in a new place, he smiled back and you both went on your way.
But sooner than you would have liked, it was already Sunday afternoon. Your boyfriend had agreed to take you for the last time to the Big Wheel, because at night you would start the trip back to Forks.
The journey to the attraction was short, considering that you had stayed not far from there. Getting off the Jepp you could already see all the children around you laughing with a lot of sweets in their hands, their parents behind them apologizing to people every time their children bumped into them.
Your arm was wrapped around Chris's and you couldn't help but see as he was absorbed in the calm that surrounded him. You didn't know it, but these days had been a kind of rebirth for him; Being with you in a place so far from his home and his problems had given him the opportunity, after a few long months, to immerse himself in a relaxation that he had been needing for a long time.
"What do you want, a cotton candy or popcorn?" he asked turning his head towards you "What do you see?" he caught you right in the act, blushing like those caramel apples he kept eating.
"I only see you" you smiled at him "these days with you were incredible, I really enjoyed them" you said softly.
He looked down at his shoes before taking your hand, leaving a small kiss there and placing it on his chest, over his heart. You had no idea what you had done to have him in your life but surely you are always grateful.
"I'll go buy the things" he said as he went to line up, there were several people in front of him, so you sat on a bench. You saw him for a few seconds while he talked to the people around him, that's how he was; he had a bubbly personality and couldn't go a few minutes without sharing his energy with other people.
You soon turned around looking for something interesting to look at when you saw a woman looking at you from afar. Some people passed in front of her and she suddenly disappeared. You turned to see your boyfriend and you were glad to see that he was still waiting, taking advantage of that moment to look for that mysterious woman you had seen.
Was it a bad idea? Yes, completely and absolutely, but you could swear that the gaze of that mysterious woman was the one you had been feeling since you arrived in Seattle and against your better judgment, you headed towards the most desolate part of the entire fair.

Despite trying to keep your tears from falling and wiping them away every time they did, Chris noticed your anguish anyway, being such an attentive person it was to be expected. When he asked you what had happened, you told him the truth; that you had not ended your relationship with that old friend well and the wound was still fresh.
"Okay, we're going to Seattle," Chris said after a few minutes as he started the car.
You were so focused on wiping away your tears in the car mirror that you were sure you had misheard "Wha-what did you say?"
"We'll go to your house and mine to get some things and then we'll drive to Seattle," he said simply, his gaze focused on the road.
You were frowning in utter bewilderment and all he did was drive home. "Why would we go to Seattle?" you asked puzzled
"Have you ever been there? It's great; the Space Needle, Pike Place Market and the Big Wheel, you'll love that I'm sure"
"Christopher, we can't go to Seattle, are you crazy?" you were completely turned towards him now, Chris just had a smile on his face.
"Why not? It's Thursday, our teachers will be missing tomorrow, we have Saturday and Sunday and if we want until Monday, we're going to have fun"
You looked at him stupefied, but you had to admit that the idea wasn't so unpleasant, a change of air would be welcome and Seattle wasn't far from Forks, just a few hours.
He began to smile at you when he noticed that your silence meant that you were beginning to think about the idea and every so often that he took his eyes off the road, he would stare at you while you heard him whisper "come on" and "it will be fun", as if it were the voice of your conscience trying to dissuade you from accepting and in the end you did.

You picked up from your house two backpacks that you used to use for school; one full of the most necessary things like clothes and cleaning accessories, while the other only had your camera, your cell phone charger and the remaining space was for whatever you bought there in Seattle. Your father asked you a couple of questions about where you were going and when he was satisfied enough, he just told you to always keep your cell phone on to keep in touch.
Chris did the same, only when he left his house he had a full bag of snacks and drinks for the road in his hand, leaving them in the back seat as soon as he got in.
He had tuned into a radio that was playing the latest hits of that year while you made fun of the ridiculous number of groups he was a part of; volleyball, basketball, debate, etc.
"You're even part of the group that's in charge of taking care of the greenhouse" you said as he stopped behind some cars that were waiting to pay the toll.
"Someone has to take care of those plants" he replied as he counted the money in his hand.
"Okay that's right, I give you that. Who else is in the group with you?"
Chris looked at you letting out a sigh, you were sitting in the passenger seat amused waiting for his answer.
You pushed it with your hand "Come on, who?"
"Alice Cullen" he blurted out.
You laughed at that, not to make fun of her or anything, but it was funny that Chris, who was afraid of the Cullens, would spend an hour straight every Friday with one of them.
He waited until he paid to answer you "Don't laugh, she's nicer than I expected"
"Of course it is, they all are" you said remembering the thousands of times you shared the odd class with them, Jasper seemed to be the most withdrawn but Alice was always there to make the time more enjoyable.
"But they are strange" he answered. Little by little your laughter faded and a comfortable silence settled in both of us. The road was normally dark except for the truck coming up behind you, considering it was a long weekend for no one but you and Chris, it was understandable that the road was empty.
You had taken from the glove compartment one of the gums that he had given you earlier, when you heard him speak again "Did I ever tell you... the story of my great-grandmother?"
You said no and while he was still looking straight ahead, he spoke again "She was...pretty normal; she lived all her life in Alaska until she married my great-grandfather and they both started living in Forks. "They lived a quiet life until the Cullens moved to Forks and she just…freaked out.” His brows were knitted and his grip on the wheel softened, his eyes darting down the road like someone trying to search their memories.
"The Cullens?" you asked softly. He seemed really nervous and you didn't want to pester him with questions, but considering that this was a topic he brought up himself, it didn't seem like you were prying.
"She said that she already knew them, that she had been to Rosalie and Emmett's wedding many years ago in Alaska, she swore it was them and she just shut herself in her house until she died. She wouldn't even go out to the backyard of our house and I was the one who spent the most time with her"
"That's why you fear them" you declared realizing, you never knew where his dislike for the Cullens came from but you certainly hadn't expected that reason. Her great-grandmother had passed on all her fears to him.
"She used to tell me to be careful, that they won't hurt me as long as I'm out of their way. It gets worse with Edward, when I'm sitting with you and my attention drifts to them and memories of my great-grandmother invade my mind, He looks at me like he knows I'm thinking of them. It's like he knows everything about me and I can't understand why" he finished with a broken voice.
You didn't know what to say to that statement, how to make him feel better, maybe there wasn't even a way. So you simply rested your hand on his shoulder, stroking it there slowly with your thumb. He smiled at you and turned the music up higher, making him escape the stormy memories of him.

The pack was a mess, Embry was a mess.
It was very difficult for him when Sam told him that he should stay away from you (his only female friend) for your safety and his words only gained weight when he found out the reason behind Emily's injuries; And if the same thing happened to you? <Chapter 2 | Chapter 4>
The weeks after that meeting on the beach were really tiring; you received constant calls and messages from Jacob and Quil, very occasionally from Embry. In addition, and as if that were not enough, you swore that someone or something had been watching you at night, for which you were forced to close the curtains on your window every day before going to sleep.
Nor could you get out of your head the notorious physical changes that they had suffered; increased muscle mass, increased height and new and shorter hair changes. Along with the fact that they wore a simple short-sleeved shirt in the cold.
Do you remember how days before seeing each of them for the last time you had begun to notice these differences, but now it had gone to an extreme change.

"I don't feel well" you said simply. He nodded at you and took your backpack in his hand, his arm around your shoulders as you both walked out the glass doors and headed for the parking lot where his Jeep was.
"You know... I was thinking that you could come to my house tomorrow for dinner" he said with a frown, despite talking to you he seemed very deep in thought about him.
"Sure, I'd like to-"
"I want you to meet my parents" he blurted out, interrupting you, it seemed that he had taken a load off his shoulders by saying those words.
You didn't know what to say to him, he had a hopeful smile on his face but it was too early for such an important step, anyway you didn't want to disappoint him and as if sickly fate were in your favor, you heard Jacob call out your name.
He was standing next to his motorcycle, his hair somewhat wet from the few drops that had fallen a while ago and he had both arms crossed in front of him while he wore a simple black t-shirt. You really didn't want to be around Jacob after all that had happened, but it gave you a few more moments to think of a good way to recline the invitation of the guy next to you.
"Who is he?" Chris asked in a whisper.
"An old friend from, you know, the reservation" you answered trying not to stutter "Go to the Jeep, I'll come with you as soon as I'm done talking to him" Chris nodded and kissed you softly before continuing on his way. You liked the fact that he wasn't on top of you all the time with nosy questions, he just trusted you and gave you your own privacy.
Taking a deep breath, you walked over to Jacob, who stood up straighter and gave you a guilty smile again. "Hey, since you weren't answering my calls I thought-"
You interrupted him abruptly "What do you want Jacob? I don't have time"
You saw how Jacob wrung his hands and you remembered how he used to do that every time he was nervous to tell you something, usually when he and the boys accidentally broke something in your room "I wanted to apologize to you, also from Quil and Embry for having us." away from you without giving you explanations"
You let out a sinic laugh "I don't think they're sorry considering they're not here"
"Yeah well, Quil's mom punished him for fighting with another boy and Tiffany did the same with Embry, otherwise they'd both be here"
"That's it?" you asked in an annoyed tone, such pathetic apologies wouldn't erase everything they had made you suffer.
Jacob's temper changed and he got a more annoying one, almost competing with yours, except that he didn't have a reason and yours was valid "Look, we couldn't explain what happened for a reason beyond our control, but now we do and believe me When I tell you that Embry needs you, all of us... please" He stood in front of you and placed his hands on your arms in an attempt to emphasize his last words.
"I'm not interested" you spat taking her hands off of you "I'm not on the reservation anymore and we're not friends anymore, so leave me alone again" you yelled at him and resumed your way towards your boyfriend's Jeep while you tried not to drop your tears.
He would always be holding your hand and if he couldn't, he would place his hand on the small of your back. He simply needs a reminder that you are there by his side.
Kisses on your forehead ALL the time, he would love to hold your cheeks, look into your eyes and then kiss you there softly.
On cold nights he would be waiting all night for you to call him to come to your house and sleep with you. The simple fact that he can satisfy such a basic need of yours with a new advantage of being a shapeshifter made him more than happy.
On afternoons when the pack gathered on the beach, he preferred to sit with you between his legs, your head resting on his chest with his arms wrapped around you.
He would accompany you to do the weekly shopping when you offered to go in Emily's place, keeping a list of everything they needed and adding your favorite groceries.
He likes picnics on the beach with the two of you listening to your favorite music.
He remembers every detail about you; always ordering or making your favorite drinks just the way you like them and heating the shower water at your preferred temperature.
He not only shows that he loves you with gestures, but also with words; he always tells you how much he loves you and how happy he is to have you in his life, admitting that the time he waited for you to come into his life was nothing compared to the precious time he now had with you.
Basically you would be the most loved person in the world <3
