Overanalysis Hours: Analyzing The Perfect Killer Couple

Partners who slay together stay together, but what exactly makes a murderous union so twisted–and so compelling?

This analysis compares and parallels two perfect killer couples: Charlotte & Lizzie from The Perfection and Eve & Villanelle from Killing Eve.

At first glance it doesn’t appear that these two pieces of media have anything in common. Consider the simple synopsis for The Perfection and Killing Eve respectively:

As you’ll see, there is far more in common between these blood-splattered ladies than you might suppose. Most importantly both killer couples are united by the act of murder as an act of emancipation and an expression of love.

It’s impossible to reference parallels to Killing Eve from The Perfection without giving away its masterful narrative laced with several jaw-dropping twists. For people who haven’t seen it yet, I highly recommend that you watch it (without any foreknowledge) as soon as possible; just be warned that there are full spoilers ahead. Please also note that these spoilers deal with traumatic material that can be triggering.

While The Perfection and Killing Eve are best left experienced rather than simply retold, I will be focusing on key thematic areas and their respective plot points.
