Ventures from yesterday, i started off from being at Freshfields Beach in Formby (the last couple of pics) and then ended up back in Liverpool by the dock and waterfront capturing images of the golden hour. Sunset looked real pretty last night👍🏻💓

These are Lumen prints that i created yesterday in the sunlight using an object and light sensitive photography paper. Lumen prints are used as camera-less photography and many people still do it even though the majority of us stick to digital. You can find people sell their creations on Etsy so they are still purchased. The first image out of each pair are what they looked like before i put them in the fix, as you can see theirs much more detail and colour in these images and the second image the colour has been drained. I still think with the second images i've kept quite a lot of the detail still these which was hard to do, i just didn't keep it in the fix as long. These are my Lumen prints, i should be posting more of these later this week as these are only practice prints and not the finished thing.

Darkroom Tutorial for developing 35mm Black and White film

So for hand developing film YOU WILL NEED:

1)Light Tight Funnel - Preferably one you can lock to make sure your film definitely doesn’t get exposed 2) 35mm Cassette Opener or Bottle a Opener – for opening 35mm cartridges 3) Scissors – for cutting the tab and cartridge off the end of the 35mm 4) Reels – these need to match the film type you’re using, You’ll need one for your film and one to act as a weight to weigh the film down.

5) Developing Cans – these need to fit your reels 6) Developing Can Lid - a hard rubber lid that stays sealed once the film has been put in there

7) Hanging Clips – for hanging finished film to dry (preferably in a film dryer if you have one) 8) Measuring Cylinders – buy these and only use them for developing, make sure you accurately measure and don’t use with food. 9) Thermometer – Buy one for keeping your temperatures consistent and accurate. 10) Timer for timing your chemical baths. 11) Developer 12) Stop 13) Fixer 14) Bowl of 20 degree water 15) Wetting agent

Once you have got all of your kit you are ready to start so, Firstly you’ll need to take your camera into the loading bay or if you’re doing this at home in a pitch black room where there are no ways for light to get in apart from turning on a light switch. You may wanna turn a light on for the time being and place your kit in an order where its easy to locate. Next, turn off the lights and remove your film (NOTE: if you have a disposable camera you are going to have to smash it open to remove the film, don’t look straight at the camera as the flash will blow up.) Once removed, grab your Cassette opener or bottle opener and remove the lid on your film canister and remove the film. After you have done that grab the end of your film and cut the tab off of it and slide the end into the reel. When the film is in there twist the reel so one hand is going anti clockwise and one is going clockwise (Like when you sharpen a pencil)The film should wind itself into the reel as you twist it. Once your film is on the reel grab your holder and put your reel onto it (One with film loaded on the bottom and empty one on the top) Then you’ll need to get your Developing tank and put your reels and holder inside. Then grab your light tight funnel and lock it into the development tank. And lastly put on your lid and you can move from the loading bay to the wash room.

Once you enter the wash room you’ll need to measure your chemicals so:

Developer -1:1 Ratio ( 1 part developer 1 part 20 degree water) so you will need 150 ml of developer and then of water. You will need to leave this in you Development tank for 13 minutes and agitate every minute (agitation is when you shake the chemicals around to make sure the film is covered) Stop bath - 1:4 Ratio and agitate when you put it in and when you pour it out, this process is for 7 minutes. Fix - 1:2 Ratio and agitate every 2 minutes. Wash- 10 minute water wash to wash any chemicals from your film. Wetting Agent - Leave this in for 2 minutes and agitate at the start and end of the process.

Once this process is done take your film off the reel and hang it up to dry, once they’re dry scan them in and you’re ready to post them on social media. Hope this was useful to some of you :)

These images were taken yesterday when i went to Crosby Beach, even though the weather wasn't up to the best standards the area in itself is so beautiful. The first image i took of the ocean took a few test shots as you can see from the details in the waves i had to get my aperture, ISO and shutter speed just right. Two of the images aren't mine (obviously the two of me) so big thanks to kate for taking these for me. Also i am going to upload my Black and White film images after i have ran them through VSCO to find any missing information

My adventure yesterday was a real load of fun, everyone i asked if i could take a photo of was really nice and even if they didn't want any shots taken they politely said "no thanks". It takes nothing to be kind, remember that.

Im going to write a quick review on this camera, i bought this so i could do some quick and easy colour shots on my journey to and from Southport and Liverpool. Midway the camera got stuck and i couldn't turn the Advance wheel even though i still had 5 exposures left, Despite the reviews people left on the Boots website i bought this anyway as i thought i would give it a try. I will write a more updated review when i have developed this and see if the quality of it is any better than the shooting. So far i come to the decision that this camera was a complete waste of money compared to my Ilford black and white disposable I also purchased from Boots which was a dream and easy to work with. Once i have everything developed i will also post my film images.
