I like the drift, I like the slide.
Expedition 33 spoilers
I’m thinking about how Verso is the main PC but he’s not the main character. Doomed by the narrative ass character. The end choice isn’t even about him, even though painted verso has equal stake in the consequences of your choice, he is decentered. You’re choosing whether to make Maelle face reality and find healing within her family, or allow her to remain. When you choose to allow her to remain in the canvas, you erase Verso anyway. You don’t erase his agency, because painted Verso never had any to begin with. But you do reinforce that HE is not the one who matters. Only Maelle matters.
And if you choose to erase the canvas, you do it for Maelle and her family. You do it because it is wrong to allow her to drown in the canvas, in her grief. You do it because she deserves a life. Verso died to give her a life and she should live it.
Are you getting this. He’s not there. Just as you, the player, are not there. Verso isn’t there. There’s his ghost, his echo, his memory, but most importantly there is his absence. But he’s everywhere. It’s HIS canvas. These are HIS creations you’re fighting. His footpaths you’re walking. His friends in your party. His family you have to save. His world, and his worldview. You exist in the vacuum he left behind: in the vast expanse of the canvas; in the black hole which the surviving Dessendre’s circle like a drain. But you do not fill the space. You play as painted verso who cannot fill the space. You can’t solve their grief. You, at best, can save them from the black hole and expel them from its gravity, leaving you behind and erased and absent, with finality.

“If you seek hope, wield the sword. If you wish to survive, see me as death. My son, follow me. Do not flee. Do not falter. Not until you are unstoppable.”
And here is the Maelle piece I did for CF22! ❤️🌹
nikaido
I could have saved him.
OH MY GOD I'M GONNA DIIIIEEEEEE ☠️
Gustave: Sit down, i'm gonna torture you now
Verso, smirking: Kinky.
Gustave: I think you're sweet and beautiful.
Verso: What-
Gustave: You deserve to be cared for.
Verso: Stop, now-
Gustave: Your feelings are valid and deserve to be heard.
Verso: I NEED A SAFE WORD!!!
Verso ending: The bittersweet conclusion to a tragic story about coping with loss and grief, and the sacrifices we must make to be a human existing in the world.
Maelle ending: The opening to an existential horror show about the warping of reality, the loss of autonomy, and burying yourself in denial so hard you literally become someone else until it kills you.
I’ve always been on the fence about all the pointy-feet nevrons, because half of me finds it very funny to think that Clea can’t paint feet
but then half of me thinks about the fact that she’s a perfectionist, and how it feels more in character for her to take anything she struggles with and double down on perfecting it, leading me to believe the body part she actually had trouble with is probably hands, and nevrons like the Noir and Lampmaster are the results of her overcoming that weakness in the most Clea fashion possible. I also think about how the oldest creation in the canvas is Esquie who a) has pointed feet and b) was painted by Verso, and how maybe this could be an old joke between them and/or Clea’s way of honouring her brother through her work
…
but then half of me finds it very funny to think that Clea can’t paint feet
Nothing. I just found out that Verso has freckles on his belly
not to be weird or anything but wdym that's just 3d model...there's a soul trapped in there dawg
