Hi y'all! As many of you know, I make organic body butters with unique scents that are nummy for your body. I started out making them under the name Hellebore Satin (what a mouthful, yeah?) and I am now transitioning into the name Sweet Cream with the addition of two new lines: Astro-butter an astrology inspired set of 12 new scents and a line of beard oils under the name Grin & Beard It!

As those of you who have had the opportunity to try out my body butters (and those of you who haven't, don't worry, I haven't forgotten you) can testify, I don't play around when it comes to ingredients and quality. I want to be able to share that experience by providing my business with the footing it needs to be sustainable, environmentally conscious, and ethical for people. That is where y'all come in. I have set up an Indiegogo with some fun perks in order to get that process rolling. Every crowdfunding campaign is a community effort from supporting folks in crises to helping folks get one step closer to their dream (cheesy cheesy. Y'all know I'm a sap hahaha).

I get really worried about people basing their happiness on romantic relationships and miss out on bombass platonic intimacy with their friends

cuddling with friends and drooling on their chests

impromptu back massages cause they know you had a bad day

forehead kisses

love that isn’t conditional on you always being well & fun

letting them know they’re smelly after the gym but you love them anyway

these aren’t actions that have to be reserved for romantic relationships and frankly shouldn’t be when much of our mental wellness comes from feeling safe and secure in our every day interactions

Self love in platitudes

Whenever we talk about self-love we are told to only acknowledge our virtues. We are told those are the real traits we actually hold and any “bad” feelings must be pushed away somewhere dark and lonely. But I think that in finding ourselves, our hearts are torn. We ache to locate the beauty in our restlessness and imperfections. We ache to reconcile the deep burden of the pain we birth into the world when we are less than kind, less than sacrificing, less than the hopes others hold us to.

When we are struggling to hold ourselves in kind and loving ways, then seeing, acknowledging and affirming the less than gracious parts of ourselves is healthy and necessary. Not in condemnation, but with the knowledge that you are not the only person who feels destructive, jealous, spiteful, and acts upon those feelings. These are not inherently bad, they are natural within and outside of the current structures of our society though the ways they manifest here and now are inextricably tied to capitalism and competition. We should be talking with one another- the people we trust- in vulnerable ways about how we hurt each other  and ourselves. Vulnerability is terrifying and can be isolating- but really how much of that is because we believe other people have their lives more together, are kinder, are never selfish? Loving ourselves is more than saying we are beautiful and kind. It is also releasing the valve, expressing that turmoil and allowing for decompression.

Your mixed feelings about your parents are valid.

Shout out to people like me who have parents who are loving but are black holes of emotional labor… It took me a long time to realize that it’s okay to have mixed feelings about your parents, about your relationship with them.

Sometimes parents can love you but be somewhat toxic to you and your growth, and that’s a very hard realization to come to if you, like me, grew up extremely close to them.

Sometimes parents can love you genuinely but lack emotional maturity, forcing you to perform disproportionate amounts of emotional labor. Some parents manifest symptoms of their mental illness in ways that are toxic to your mental illness.

Some parents, like mine, try so hard to be good parents but fall back on habits of emotional manipulation because they haven’t processed their own traumas and are modeling behavior they grew up with. That doesn’t make their behavior acceptable, and it’s okay to feel exhausted and hurt when they betray you. You don’t have to forgive every mistake.

I want you to know that it’s okay to protect yourself, to need some space apart from them. The love you have for your parents is still valid, and you are making the right decision.

Placing a safe emotional distance between myself and my parents has been one of the most difficult, heartbreaking processes I’ve ever gone through… it hurts to try to curb the strength of your own natural empathy around people you love. It feels disingenuous to your heart’s natural state.

But I promise you, you are not hard-hearted or ungrateful, and you are not abandoning them. You are making a decision about your own emotional, mental, and spiritual health.

I know what it’s like in that confusing grey area of love mixed with guilt and anxiety, of exhaustion and quasi-manipulation and unreciprocated emotional labor, and I promise you, you are not alone.

homeless now; please help me?

so I just got out of rehab and I was supposed to be moving to a sober living home on the help of my family. I have no way to get a place to live because the help that I was depending on has fallen through. now I’m scrambling for help.

my bank account is in the negative by $113. the deposit for the sober living is $200, and then $120 for the first week. I need to raise $433. I’m going to try and get a loan as well; once I get out there, I am going to search for a job w/ the help of the sober living residents.

Yesterday, Mayor Murray of Seattle made a statement saying that the city will be a sanctuary for undocumented immigrants, even if it means losing federal funding. Please call your Mayor’s office and demand similar actions of support. Deetz below.
