I think it's funny that the lower ranks are so scared of the Hashira, but what if they're not? They're actually scared that the Hashira will find out that most of them are lusting after them. Joke's on them though, the Hashira are well aware, and there are bets among them about when the more obvious ones are going slip up and in front of whom.
