Insomnia, Casey Childs
Oh, and ok. If you’re fine with it and it makes things easier I’ll reveal myself soon then. I just did it this way as I felt it was less intrusive. Also, I’m a stranger so I didn’t want to DM out of the blue and scare you. 😅 I’ll do it it sometime soon and let you know when it’s me. 👍
whenever you want its totally fine with me!
Hey! I’m back! I actually don’t own alot of Spanish film on physical media if that’s what you. I should say also by ‘Spanish’ films I mean both Spain and Mexican cinema specifically. They’re both intertwined in some ways because of historical events that happened in the early to mid twentieth century, but I don’t want to give some dull history lesson unless you’re really curious. 👀
I'd assume as much!!
Full moon at the Temple of Poseidon in Sounio, Greece
Interior of the Church of San Clemente, Rome, 1863 by Lawrence Alma-Tadema (Dutch, 1836–1912)
The long version is that I always viewed classics since I was a child. Initially, Spanish classics that my mother grew up with from her home country. Specifically, Spanish comedies were what I would view. That led me to watching and appreciating Silent comedies that I would later view as a kid. Mostly Chaplin and Lloyd shorts that I enjoyed on VHS immensely before they were yanked away from me (Uh…another story for later). ~ W 1/2
This is really cool. Did you have access to a lot of Spanish films from the 20th century?
Oh. Not a question but I just wanted to say a final comment on what you last said by saying that may you find the perfect path for yourself for the future and you can keep moving forward. That’s all I wanted to say. Until next time! Have a great month! ~ W
i loved reading your response - you should message me (just to avoid the constant posting haha)
April 21st, 1928 Virginia Woolf, “A Writer’s Diary” (1918 - 1941)
Self-Portrait as Pierrot, 1911 by Zinaida Serebriakova (Russian, 1884--1967)
Ok, I just wanted to ask simply how did you get to vintage and classic film on your end? Did you just stumble upon it? Were you introduced by someone? Or was there just a piece of media that just enamored you to it all? You don’t need to be too detailed if you’re not comfortable.
I watched a lot of period pieces growing up with my mom and my love for historically driven films bled into me exploring classical Hollywood films/European, etc films. I also really loved the 1920s in high school and it led me to exploring other decades until I eventually ended up studying it in university! I started with silent films first then "talkies." Retrospectively, this was all a kind of escape for me and coping mechanism and am now wondering if I even chose the right path. How about you?
Hey! I’m the same anon from awhile back! I was just wishing the people on here I still communicate with a great holiday weekend and wanted to do the same here. You have a Happy Easter holiday if you celebrate! Or a great weekend regardless even if you don’t! See ya around (I actually have a question for later)! May life be going well for you. ~W
Hey! Thank you so much :) Happy Easter to you too if you celebrate! I check on here from time to time.
Understandable. My views have evolved or at the very least have become nuance as well. It happens as we grow.
Anyways, I don’t want to keep bombarding your askbox every time you come on so for now I say farewell! Talk to you later on if you still come on in a blue moon. Always happy to talk about film, the past, or whatever comes up. Maybe, I’ll get off anon later.
that would be awesome! :)
It was your style and insouciant attitude that made yours stand out. It was refreshing to see someone not really apologizing for their views. Some views that I agreed with and others that I admit I disagree with (I wasn’t an inane fool though, so it didn’t bother me lols). Not many others from that community on here like that (and those that were are now either inactive or were banned by Tumblr for ridiculous reasons).
aw thanks - I have to say though, my views, thoughts, and feelings have changed since then. I cringe at how I was haha.
Spring Break at Warm Beach, 1942
As for the way Tumblr is now well..it sorta went downhill the past few years (yes even worse than before) and some of the mindlessness still exists, but the vintage side of things has been pretty good as of late. Imo, way less drama in that community than from previous years and it’s mostly been pleasantly quiet and friendly usually during these times (well other than a few stupid battles but it doesn’t matter now). Just watch out for the stupid bots and scammers (thought that thankfully is on decline too, but some persist ugh).
Ultimately, though you do you.
Yes, thank you and once again may you stay well, and may your good fortune come to you.
thanks for the heads up. I am genuinely touched that you remembered this blog! The previous message you sent , I really needed at that moment <3. I remember those battles. It was one of the reasons why I left...was not a good thing for me! Thank you for your messages :')
Jeez. Was on Tumblr looking through older blogs I followed for old times and yours was one that showed more recent activity. I remember yours. It was neat.
In case, you see this just wanted to say I hope you’ve been well and that you’ve found the peace you desire or some semblance of it. The best any of us can do. You stay strong! Let us know where to reach ya if you do it over again! 👍
so kind of you, this touched me. I don't know if I'll make another blog, I just recently got access to this tumblr because it was so long ago since I used this site. thank you for your kind words ❤
