Her hand rises to her lips in thought; strange, why did she feel like he purposely changed the subject ⁇ Lumine hums, reflecting on her brief time in Mondstadt. She had spent so much time in Inazuma and Liyue, that even Paimon decided it was time for a visit. ❝ It was good; no looming dangers, no dragon sightings. ❞

A light-hearted response, somewhat. She really did mean it. So often did this occur that it had to become a running joke at some point; Lumine shakes her head at this thought. ❝ I did learn how to mix drinks at Angel Share, so now I’m a natural. ❞ And a moments ego boost, but not quite enough to rise an arrogant smile, and knowing, smug gaze.

Actually, she’s still rather curious about him. ❝ Are you planning to go back now that the Sakoku Decree has been lifted ⁇ ❞

❛ amazing , lumine ! ❜

he gives her a faithful pat on the shoulder , something proud , something meaningful . still , she reverts the subject back to mondstadt , to whether or not he’d venture there once more .

❛ well , i can’t say it hasn’t been on my mind . ❜

however , visiting a place where most of what he knew included loneliness , grief , & quietude . . . he has no one to see but the people he’s met here in inazuma . he wonders if it’s worth it . . . he’s changed so much from the quiet , shy , child he once was .

❛ i’d love to visit you there , of course . & some of the others i’ve met ! so , perhaps when i find the time . . . but , i’d hate to leave the kamisato’s unattended . . . ❜

❛ of course you are welcome . you are family , after all . ❜ because to him , there is no debt to be owed , but instead a strong bond of kinship which has permeated countless aspects of their lives together . thoma acts as though he is somehow beneath ayato , somehow lesser — ( & . ) while it is in some ways true , that commissioner holds a power that thoma could never dream of wielding , that his very presence commands a respect that thoma can only witness but never experience — within the estate he is just as respected , just as loved as his sister .

he smiles pleasantly , ever - content with his placement in working for the kamisato’s . they always had a way with making him feel welcome , making him feel like he belonged somewhere . with a world that abandoned him , he feels safe here , in their presence , as their housekeeper . he places the tea before him instead of handing it to him directly & grins in a feat of accomplishment . his hair is dripping from the outside rain , but only atop his clothing , so he supposes he doesn’t mind it . ❛ the weather is pretty bad out there ! if you need anything , i’ll work out the details so you don’t get wet . ❜

because the debt he feels he owes far outweighs any of the menial tasks he’s assigned with day to day . he’s ever thankful for the kamisato’s & how they have treated him since he happened upon them whilst bearing nothing but the clothes on his back . in this moment , thoma serves ayato his favorite milk tea & takes a pleasant seat aside him .
