It's time for me to finally post my first-listen review of The Life of a Showgirl!
And per usual, take the rankings with a grain of salt because really, all of them should be at the top of the list 💅
The Fate of Ophelia - I LOVE this as the first song of the album, it really takes us right out of the TTPD era by showing how Trav changed the prophecy 🥹. Plus it has such a funky beat, it's super catchy.
Elizabeth Taylor - oh my god, the drop at the beginning of the chorus??? I LOVE the chorus. This is such a groovy song, I love the piano in the background!!!
Opalite - Sorry but those opening lines are SO ICONIC HAHAH . This one also has such a funky beat, the chorus is so catchy!! I added this one to my wedding reception playlist! 🫶
Father Figure - I NEVER expected to ever hear Taylor say d*ck in a song, oh my god. Damn is this a good song, you know we love a bridge with a good vigilante shit twist, take back those masters and show it off, Taylor, cause they always should've been yours!!!
Eldest Daughter - The white horse parallels omfg I'm actively crying 😭. The bridge hits really hard because same bestie, we're all just trying to heal our inner child and break from past vices, and it's a magical, indescribable feeling to have a partner beside you to do that with who loves you wholeheartedly. She fr is just going through it at the same time as me 😭😭
Ruin the Friendship - I'm so here for the subversion of the title vs. content for this one, this isn't what anyone expected it to be and I love her for that!! That post-chorus advice at the end tho - regret can last forever and hindsight is always 20/20! Also it's really cool to hear Taylor do so many vocal runs!!
Actually Romantic - HAHA I love this one, it's what we expected ruin the friendship to be like, but this is so much better than we could have imagined. And it's so true, why spend so much effort on someone you don't like? You're only going to get yourself upset, while, the other person? couldn't give less of a shit! People nowadays need to re-learn how to protect their own peace.
Wi$h Li$t - bruh why did this song make me almost cry on the first listen 😭 (and it continues to almost make me cry every time i listen to it!!!!). I'm also currently engaged and want to find a house and have kids one day too after the wedding, so I feel this song so much. The beat SLAPS, and I LOVE the way she says "got a wish list"!!!
Wood - Ayye we love a funky beat, especially for such a fun song like this!! And all of the double entendres just make it even more fun lol, this is such a cute song, like omg bestie yes spill the tea
CANCELLED! - All of the verses are so good, omfg?? And the way she says "my infamy loves company," ohhhh my god. I'm loving the dark tones / rep vibes.
Honey - GO OFF ON THE PATRIARCHY QUEEN. But also if I were Trav, i'd be blushing so hard over this song, omgg the verses are so cute, our girl is so happy 🥺😭
The Life of a Showgirl - Honestly I don't even know what to say about this one lol!! No notes except it eats, I love hearing how Taylor feels, and it's a perfect closer for the album, the outro makes me tear up every time I hear it 😭😭
