This is true, in my experience.

The hard part is when the love, attention, and affection *were* there -- and then they are withheld, or ended altogether.

The temptation is to pursue those things and the person who gave them. To make things right. To rekindle. Or at least to achieve understanding of why.

If my experience is any guide, it will lessen your sorrows when you recognize that what was once freely given can be taken away, slowly or abruptly, that it might have nothing to do with you particularly, and that there might be no way for you to repair the situation, or even to reach closure with the other person.

These are not happy truths to recognize, but they are necessary ones.

Especially when the change is abrupt, it can be so easy to internalize as your "fault". But it rarely is, and recognizing that helps a little. Closure used to be a thing I searched out to the detriment of my mental health, but I'm starting to realize that not getting it is sometimes just a part of life.
