Synopsis: giyu is hopelessly in love with you, unfortunately, he’s terrible at showing it!
Based off of this request!
Imagine giyu tomioka being hopelessly in love with a fellow hashiras, the unlikeliest of situations for the man. It took him months to realise what he was feeling was true love- sweaty hands, butterflies in his stomach, red cheeks.. he might aswell have been a teen with a silly crush. Whenever your footsteps drew nearer to his presence, he’d feel his heart rate pick up impossibly high as his calloused hands grip his haori, embarrassment enveloping his entire being.
But to you? He looks completely fine, annoyed, even.
Imagine Giyu Tomioka trying his absolute best to grow close to you, though his efforts fall nothing short of useless:
The morning mist still clung to the cedar trees as you gathered herbs by the river. The water sparkled with early sunlight, koi darting between stones like tiny living lanterns.
Giyu stood a few steps behind you, trying very hard to look natural.
He cleared his throat. “I… can help.”
You brightened, smile widening with joy. “Oh! Sure, thank you.” You pointed toward the riverbank. “Fennel grows over there, careful, it gets slippery.”
Giyu followed, rehearsing the words he wanted to say: “I…like being near you.” He sighs, his shoulders relaxing. “I want you to know how I feel.”
Though unfortunately for the water hashira, What came out instead was:
“…The water level is… nice today.”
You blinked, your eyes meeting his. “Oh. Yes. Very… watery?”
He stiffened, mortified at his own horrific lack of social skills. Giyu looked away, ears pink, watching the river flash silver between the stones. He tried one more time, quietly:
You paused, thinking. Despite the hashira’s inside panic, to you he simply looked.. well.. annoyed. Honestly, when didn’t he?
“To the water?” You ask slowly, trying not to annoy him more than he already, very clearly, was.
He stared at you, his jaw clenching in self frustration. You stared back, completely lost.
“…Yes,” he said finally, defeated.
You nodded with a bright smile. “Great! Let’s gather the rest together then.”
As you walked ahead, humming happily, Giyu followed behind, wondering how the strongest Hashira could be undone so easily by one confused, adorable misunderstanding.
Imagine Giyu Tomioka finally finding advice in the butterfly hashira, Shinobu. I mean, she’s probably the most emotionally knowledgeable person of all the hashira.
Giyu Tomioka had faced demons without blinking, had stood in the path of death itself with unwavering calm..but standing outside the Butterfly Estate’s infirmary door, he felt something dangerously close to panic.
He knocked once. Softly. Too softly.
The door slid open anyway.
“Giyu?” Shinobu blinked up at him, surprise already tugging at her smile. “My, this is rare. Did you get injured and simply fail to notice again?”
“No.” He swallowed, stiff. “I… need advice.”
That alone made her eyebrows rise. But when he stepped inside and she caught the faint red tint on his ears, her smile froze entirely. “Oh? Advice about what?” Shinobu motioned for him to sit, though he hovered awkwardly instead.
“I might be.. in love?” He grumbles quietly, avoiding eye contact at any cost.
Her fan slipped from her fingers and clattered to the floor.
“I’m sorry,” she said slowly, “did the usually emotionless Water Hashira just say he needs romantic advice?”
Giyu closed his eyes briefly, as if preparing for death. “Yes.”
Shinobu stared at him utterly shocked, utterly delighted.
“Well” she said, recovering fast and leaning in with predatory curiosity, “tell me everything.”
Giyu hesitated. Then, in a voice barely louder than a whisper, he admitted, “I… like them.”
“Like them?” Shinobu repeated. “Giyu, you look like you’re about to fight Upper Rank One. This is adorable.”
He glared, but it only made her grin wider.
“How long?” she asked, tapping her chin.
“And what exactly do you want advice on?”
Shinobu considered him with an unexpectedly gentle expression. “You know, Giyu, you’re brave. But feelings aren’t demons. You can’t just cut through them, you have to speak.”She stood, smoothing her haori. “Start simple. Honest. You care about them, don’t you?”
All giyu could do was nod meekly in response, his gaze full of self conflict.
“Then tell them that. They’ll listen.” Her smile softened. “They already look at you like you hung the moon. You just… haven’t noticed.”
Giyu stiffened. “They do?”
Shinobu giggled. “Oh my, he really has no idea.. maybe they’d know you liked them if you didn’t look so miserable all the time”
She walked him to the door, pushing it open with a flourish.
“Go on, Water Hashira. I believe in you. And if you don’t tell them soon…” Her eyes glinted mischievously. “I might accidentally let something slip.”
Giyu’s eyes widened in genuine horror, looking at her as if she had betrayed him as a life long friend.
Shinobu waved cheerfully as he hurried away faster than she’d ever seen him move.
“Oh,” she murmured to herself, still amazed, “to think Giyu Tomioka came to me for love advice.” She laughed softly. “The world truly is full of surprises.”
